I guess its our turn down south...I picked a good day to work from home!

The water is pouring down Church Hill in Caterham like a river, into the valley. Thank goodness we're nearer the top of the hill. Any of you caught in this torrential rain?

its bad here in the midlands as well :sad2: it feels really cold today as well !!

Awful here in Essex. Hardly stopped raining heavily all morning and is very windy too.

Children broke up from school yesterday so a great start to the holidays!

Overcast here in Glasgow but no rain yet.

Miserable here is south wales. Was lovely all day yesterday, really warm, sun shining, that was until 5.30pm when the heavens decided to open!

Been pouring all morning with Thunder and lightning, here in North London.

Yes and you would never believe that this time yesterday I was having a Picnic in Stratford Upon Avon and got sun burnt!
The radio have just said that it's going to get worse as well!

Belting down all day in the South West so far.

We're off to see Jules Holland at Westonbirt Arboretum tonight! :scared:

Wellies and umbrellas required I think. Better make that a small boat. Maybe an ark.

Dark & pouring down in northampton & cold . Getting fed up with it raining all the time, makes everyone depressed. :sad1:

One of our reps has just been into the shop and she said that the road out of the village is flooded now! I might have to spend the night here!:scared1: good job I got DH to buy a sofa bed from Ikea for here then!

Dreadful day here in Cardiff, In Barry which is about 6 miles from us they have had major flooding with 3 schools having to be evacuated due to flooding and sewage pouring in.:scared1:

Jools Holland at Westonbirt has been cancelled - just as well really, as it was a picnic concert! :rotfl2:

Gloucester is flooded everywhere. Matt is stuck between Cheltenham and Gloucester in barely moving traffic - I'm not sure if he'll get home. The local radio is reporting that the major junction into Quedgeley is closed. Apparently all the train stations around here are closed and there are 1000 passengers stranded in Gloucester.

ETA: I can't even get hold of him on the phone now.

The whole of the Midlands appears to be at a stand still due to floods, the M42 is closed and the major routes are all affected, so it's a night in the shop for me I think! I don't think want to risk getting flooded in the car!
hmmm good job there's a nice Italian Restaurant next door! :woohoo:

I hope those of you stuck find a way to get home safe and sound!

Well,
That's been a "fun" 24 hours!
I have been away on buisness and got back home around 4pm yesterday.
Horrendous journey, but that was just the start.
The river at the bottom of the garden was already rising

The river is the farthest away bit of water.

The last time it rose like this was 1998 when we had the so-called "once in a hundred years" flash flood, so was already concerned.
The wife and the little'un were now back and I got the cars up on higher ground, contacted the local council who said no sand bags available, so we made our own out of plastic sacks filled with towels.

By this time the river had risen and my drive looked like this

Fortunately, at the front it did not rise much more than the foot and a bit .
The wife and little un went out in the 4X4 to see how it looked.
We have a lane which then you can walk under the road into the main part of the town, but that was going to be impossible. this is further downstream from our house.
The roof of the underpass is 7 feet above the ground

within minutes, the lane looked like this.

The bit of wall on the right is actually the top of the bridge!
All through the night we kept an eye on the river and fortunatly, the rise was slower than last time and we just got away with no flooding, as it had time to get downstream.
This is as bad as it got

We were lucky, some of our neighbours who are lower down than us were not so lucky, with a couple of foot of brown stuff into their houses.
It's now receding and below the banks again (just)
It really smells as well.

not the best welcome home, at least you weren't too badly affected this time.

No, wev'e done very well up to now, with only the once in a hundred getting past the step. Normally the first picture is as bad as it gets, hence the banking.

Well lets hope the worst of the rain is over and the waters have a chance to receed. Did you build the defences yourself
