It's NEVER Too Late, for Number 8 - the most UNOFFICIAL, 'official' AKL thread yet!

Kids of all ages (but mostly children! ;)) meet at the gift shop (Ziwadi) in the evening -- the time will be posted on the Activities Board. The group parades around the lobby, led by CMs from Africa, chanting and banging on native instruments.

It's a true photo/video op for parents/grandparents and even guests who don't know anyone in the "Primal Parade"! :cloud9: (most kids LOVE it!)

Oh wow! That's so cool!! I'll definitely look for that.

laura,

I have a favor to ask you.....

BTW, I am going to the Braves game tonight here in DC and hope to see Chipper and the Braves, beat the Nats....

I even have my red #10 jersey on....

I am thinking of booking a 2 bdr at Jambo house buying DVC points. Can anyone tell me what the room layout would be? Would the value and Savannah have the same space?

If I considered Kidani 2 bdr what would be the layout difference?

I have stayed at both of these in a studio and I like Jambo house better, but if I would get a better layout I might go to Kidani.

The difference, really, is size.

The Value Villas are the smallest of the units (945 sq ft in a 2 BR). They sleep one less person (because you can't get the sleeper sofa and the sleeper chair open at the same time in the livingrooms)..meaning 8 in a 2BR. They have a variety of views...pool and parking lot for sure, not sure about savannah (maybe a couple overlook Sunset..but maybe not). These rooms are all on Giraffe and Ostrich trail.

The Standard and Savannah view rooms at Jambo are a bit bigger than the values (1075 sq ft in a 2 BR). They sleep nine, and have 2 bathrooms (one off the master, one in the "studio/2nd bedroom" portion of the villa). The Standard view rooms at Jambo ALL have a pool view. Savannah view rooms range across all 3 main Jambo savannahs. MOST of these rooms are on Zebra and Kudu trail.

Value, Standard, and Savannah rooms at Jambo are all on the 5th floor.

Concierge DVC rooms are the same size as the Standard and Savannah view rooms. They could have EITHER a savannah or pool view. You get access to all the concierge offerings (lounge, the concierge, and the concierge exclusive savannah..though THAT costs extra). Those rooms are on the 6th floor.

Kidani rooms are a bit bigger, overall ( 1173 sq ft in a 2BR). They do include an extra bathroom (off the main living area), meaning you have 3 in a 2BR, though that doesn't account for all the sq footage difference. The 3 main "rooms" are slightly wider and significantly longer than those at Jambo. They sleep the same as the Standard and Savannah rooms at Jambo (there are no Value villas at Kidani), meaing 9 in a 2BR. Standard rooms overlook the pool AND/OR the parking lots. Savannah view rooms overlook one of two savannahs at Kidani, one of which has exclusive (okapi and red river hogs) animals you can't see anywhere else. Obviously, rooms can be on any floor, there.

One other thing to keep in mind: Kidani does NOT have it's own Quick Service restaurant. It has a table service place (Sanaa) and both grab and go and "Room Service" offerings at the pool (which will cost you TABLE SERVICE credits on the Dining Plan). That's a big consideration for some folks.

Otherwise, no matter which part of the lodge you're staying in (Jambo or Kidani), you can use the facilities at the "other" building. Jambo guests are welcome to use the Kidani pool (or clubhouse!). Kidani guests are welcome to use the Jambo Pool or the Simba's Clubhouse childcare services. It's one big happy family! :)

I hope that helps!

Edit: There's a pretty good faq sheet here:

...my brother and his family are at MK right now....their flight was delayed so they didn't get to MCO until 4AM this morning! He'll probably fall asleep on BTMRR.....:rotfl:

Ok..NOT AKL related..but I respect the opinion of this group so I'm going to ask the question here:

We're flying in to MCO on Dec 5th, heading to the Hard Rock Hotel, and doing one night there before (late on the 6th) checking in to AKV.

We're DEFINITELY doing IOA/WWOHP on the 6th.

We fly out of BDL (Bradley Airport, in CT) at 7 AM-ish on the 5th...meaning we're going to be up pretty early (we live about 40 min from the airport). We land at MCO around 10:30 AM, have to get our luggage, and then are having a private Mears transport to the HRH (so direct to the hotel...no other stops).

We're entertaining the notion of spending the afternoon at USF, since the kids haven't done that park, yet. My concern is: Early morning to get to the airport, tired kids from travelling, and the fact we need to be at IOA an hour prior to opening (so we can use your "early access" to WWOHP) the NEXT day.

What do you all think? Too much on the kids, maybe? Too much on the parents? :)

We (my wife and I) are just worried about burning everyone out to start the vacation.

....you'd be surprised at how you get a second wind, especially once you get sight of a theme park...don't make that day too late a night though...

....my brother didn't check in to BWV until 4:30am THIS MORNING and he just sent me a pic of his DW and twins at MK....:confused3. Their flight was supposed to leave at 9PM but was delayed and didn't leave till around 12:30...

....that's why I'd DEFINITELY plan on a pool day, right around Day 3....you'd be surprised how it catches up on ya...;)

....if you really want to visit US/IoA, I'd move that up at least to Day 4....

I'll have to look, but I don't think we can with the ADR's we've already made. I think Day 4 is both the Princess breakfast AND Coral Reef (for dinner).

But maybe day 5 (ADR at Ohana) and day 6 ( ADR at Sanaa)...we could flip flop where we are and what we're doing during the day since our ADR's aren't IN the parks.

Our other option for that first day (instead of USF) is/was hanging out at the Hard Rock pool. Both options have us at Citiwalk (probably Bubba Gumps) for dinner.

...I can understand that - it just seems such a shame when you'll be right there, especially since they've never been there....AND the added bonus of the FOTL deal since you are staying at HRC...

Which is EXACTLY why we're conflicted. :)

We did IOA last year..kids loved it. We didn't get to the HRH, though, til around 5 PM the night prior. No time to do USF.

THIS time, I think we have time. I'm just not sure how long, with FOTL access, USF would take. If I knew we could get through it by, say, dinner time (5 PM-ish), I think I'd be in. We could be back to the room by, say, 7:30..and get the kids to bed at a decent hour. I mean..they're used to getting up by 6:30 AM and bed by 8. Getting them up at 4:30 AM and to bed by 7:30....seems like it would work to me.

But what I don't want is to get well into USF, look at our watches, and have to try to drag the kids out to get them fed and to bed. Given the day, I can see at least one meltdown by going that route.

...personally, I think you COULD do it[ we can get through US alot faster than IoA, but that's just us]....BTW, what are the kids' ages? That has alot to do with it too...

....oh great! now my brother AND his DW sent me two separate pix of IASW...and, he made a reference to BTMRR, so he's probably reading this on his phone.....yeah, Kirk, I know where you are....

They'll be 10, 8, and 6 when we travel.

We'll also have my 26 year old Sister in law...who's making her first trip to Orlando.

Hi all - quick question. We're staying at Kidani for the first time in Oct (yes, finally gave into DH to not stay at Jambo). We have just a standard view booked, but wondered if I should be making any requests. Anyone have a favorite request they've used for standard views?

Thanks!
