Jambo & greeting from AKL all! I'm sitting here in front of the firepit in Jambo lobby! I can't sleep. We arrived yesterday. It's beautiful here! No pixie dust for a room upgrade but it's fine. The pool is great! DD8 didn't want to get out & couldn't stop going on the slide. We did storytelling yesterday & the campfire. Then the parade in the lobby! You guys weren't kidding about soooo much to do here!
The downside was the grumpy CM who checked us in - not pleasant at all. And the room feels small for just the three if us.
Have a great day all!
Oh - the zebra dome ..... YUMMO! :-)

WOW... congrats on your post count. I remember when we both started posting on here I think we were close in post counts because I was jealous you had just gotten a tag and I didn't :rotfl2:

<------- :sad1: ME tagless with only a measly 4500 posts

I haven't read through everything yet but just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Jess and I'm a new DVC owner. Me, hub and two sons age 9 & 1 are staying in a 1BR Savanna view from dec 6-14. We are very excited as we have never stayed at AKL before or any deluxe.

I look forward to getting to know everyone, getting tips and seeing pics :)

:welcome:

Yes you are right it was the Excursion. thank you for helping me clearify that. Im pretty sure my girls are too little. So Hubby and I are considering putting them in the kids club and doing the Trek with out them. Especially since it includes a dinner that I know wont appeal to them. I guess we'll see, he's a little nervious about leaving our youngest at the kids club she's pretty little but she's potty trained so she qualifies. I just want to do something fun with my husband just us.

Dinner? That wouldn't be the Wild Africa Trek at the AK Park, that would be Wanyama Safari at the AK Lodge.

The "Trek" is open to anyone 8 or older, regardless of where you're staying or even IF you're staying! It does include a small meal on the "Boma" which is a pavilion (with restrooms I might add!) out on the savannah.

"Wanyama" is open to AKL/AKV guests 8 or older. It includes dinner at Jiko.

The cost of Wanyama is $190/pp. I'm not sure about the Trek, but I believe it's somewhere around $189.

Both are excellent and I'm sure you and DH would enjoy either one, but I think you 2 would enjoy the Wanyama more! ;)

Glad to hear that you have been enjoying the Lodge! I love going there even if I'm not staying!

THANK YOU !!!! This is really good info. DH is a little nervous about leaving the kids. He doesnt want to be too far away if they need us. Im like its at our resort!!! I told him I want to DOOOOO something interesting not just stare at each other accross a dinner table. We go out to dinner all the time. ;) Any way we have some time before our trip, I'll keep working on him. I think once they both start school and he can see how intependant that makes them it will be ok.

Kids of all ages (but mostly children! ;)) meet at the gift shop (Ziwadi) in the evening -- the time will be posted on the Activities Board. The group parades around the lobby, led by CMs from Africa, chanting and banging on native instruments.

It's a true photo/video op for parents/grandparents and even guests who don't know anyone in the "Primal Parade"! :cloud9: (most kids LOVE it!)

It's still about 1,000 miles east of Puerto Rico -- but the models show it could impact Florida.......... next week? (Still way too early to tell!)

With so many WDW trips under my belt, I honestly don't worry about the weather any longer. It's still my Happy Place, no matter what the weather! ;)

(I have the feeling I have lots of company in that regard! :thumbsup2)

:goodvibes

I am with you there!:beach:

WTG!:cool1:

I haven't even hit 3k yet!

:wave2:

Great attitude!:thumbsup2

Thanks.... Stick around here and you will get there...

Afternoon J's & K's - hope everyone is well!!!

SHEESH you guys - I seriously miss a couple days and OMG - it's like reading an novel to catch up!!! If I miss anyone, I'm SORRY -

Brandi - congrats - and that shrimp and grits recipe is amazing!!!! GIRL - I just cook my grits regularly, little bit of butter when done - and I either grill or blacken my shrimp, usually with a little bit of zatarains (cajun seasoning) sometimes I'll do bbq sauce on them.......... but WOW your's looks good!!!
Thanks and thanks...
To me it is one of those things that to me you must do it right or does not taste right!

Woohoo! Congratulations! party:

Thanks :upsidedow

I am thinking of booking a 2 bdr at Jambo house buying DVC points. Can anyone tell me what the room layout would be? Would the value and Savannah have the same space?

If I considered Kidani 2 bdr what would be the layout difference?

I have stayed at both of these in a studio and I like Jambo house better, but if I would get a better layout I might go to Kidani.

I think the big difference is you get an extra bathroom at Kidani right?

HI everybody or should I say JAMBO. Just found this thread. We are staying in a 1 br at Jambo from Nov 9th to Nov 17th. Ive been over on the Nov trip planners thread since it started. But I was looking for info on AKL as this is our first stay there. We are really excited.

I was reading at alkresort.com that they are not going to do safaris anymore as of 11-21-2012. So the only one you can book if you arent staying club level is Wild African treck right? Had anyone done this is it worth it?

I have added you to the "List" but I had not heard that before...

Congratulations, on both DVC (we are owners also) and on staying at AKV, we love it!
