It's my first college spring break...I'm going to Disney World! Mar 12 (Updated 6/18)

Hi there! I'm going to join in on the fun! :goodvibes

Yummy Tusker House breakfast! We ate there once and really liked it! I also like the lunch buffet and find it really hard to choose which is better!

You got some great animal pictures! Did it stop raining before you got on the safari? I wonder if the animals are less active in the rain?

I didn't really know they could run either. I don't know why I thought they wouldn't run :confused3 I guess I never really thought about it

Tusker House is amazing

Okay good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who never considered giraffes running! :rotfl:

I definitely want to try Tusker House sometime, but there's soooo many other places I want to try! I also want to try Boma for breakfast...wow, I just got back from dinner with Charles and a friend, and I'm dying for Disney food!

Thanks for this report. I stumbled across it when I googled Disney Crowds Spring Break.

My second son is going off to college this fall and I wanted to bring the family to Disney during his spring break. I too am worried about the crowds..and airfare!! If you dont mind me asking, was the airfare a lot (I assume you flew out of PVD or BOS)? My other options are January or May, as you mentioned. Seems to be less crowded and cheaper, but my son thinks it will be too cold in January. I dont know what to do!! We are a family of 5, with now 2 in college, so airfare will play a big factor in when we go. So far Ive seen airfare for $480+, but Airtran and Jetblue (and Southwest) have not come out with their March pricing yet.

Anything you can let me know about Spring break crowds and air cost would be appreciated! Thanks

Hopefully, when the rain stopped, it stopped for good. :thumbsup2

Nice safari ride. A lot of animals were stirring. :thumbsup2 You got to see the lioness up, and that's a treat.

I'll definitely be talking about the rain throughout the AK day

We had never seen either of the lions up before, so that was great!

Hi!! Thanks for reading!! :goodvibes

I love Tusker House. I've never had the lunch. I can't tear myself away from the breakfast

It was raining a little bit on our first safari. Later in the day a CM told us that some of the animals are actually more active in the rain.

Okay good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who never considered giraffes running! :rotfl:

Mmmm Disney food

Hi! Welcome to my report! :)

I'm not sure about the airfare. We flew Southwest out of Providence. I asked my mom, but she's not sure what the difference was between Spring break prices and Feb/April break prices.

As for the crowds, it honestly wasn't that bad. I don't think it was much more crowded than it was during my Feb or April breaks. I don't know if we were just in the right parks on the right days, or if it just wasn't that crowded. It was the first week of spring break season, so maybe that made a difference. We also left the Friday before spring break season really started, because I don't have Friday classes, and it didn't really get crowded until Monday.

If we go next year I think we'll aim for January. It's definitely cheaper and less crowded, and we wouldn't mind if it was a little cold.

After our first safari of the day, we waited about 5 minutes to use our second set of Fastpasses. The stand-by line was so short that our FP's were ready right after we used our first set :thumbsup2

It had been raining a little bit during our first safari, but as you'll be able to tell from some of my pictures, it started pouring again during our second ride.

Here comes the rain

DSCF9806.jpg

The lioness was still up there.

DSCF9809.jpg

I didn't take as many pictures on that safari since I didn't want my camera to get too wet.

After our second safari, it was absolutely pouring. But that didn't slow us down ;) The crowds were starting to clear out. Everyone who was still there had either a poncho or a sweatshirt. We left our sweatshirts in the room and we didn't want to buy ponchos, so we just said "oh well" and started walking through the rain. We weren't letting the rain ruin our only AK day.

We went to do the Pangani trail. We were basically alone walking through the outdoor parts. We ran into one cast member who asked if we were staying dry and we said no, but we're from New England so we're used to it

Because of the rain, all of my pictures are from indoor parts or covered areas.

The gorillas were hanging out near the glass since there's a little covered area there.

DSCF9822.jpg

After that we went into a store to get out of the rain for a few minutes. The store was packed because everyone else had the same idea. I bought an AK shirt, and then we went back out into the rain.

We walked to Asia so I could check out the Everest line. My mom stayed in the gift shop while I rode. I went in the single rider line and rode twice within 15 minutes. I didn't think I could get any more wet than I already was, but I was wrong. On my second ride, the guy riding next to me was pretty dry when he got on but by the time we got off he was soaked. After two rides I looked like I had just jumped into a pool :rotfl:

We found a dry spot so we could sit down for a few minutes.

The rain kept coming down...

DSCF9826.jpg

After a few minutes we started walking toward the Maharajah Jungle Trek. We saw that Kali River Rapids had a 5 minute wait, but we were wet enough ;)

DSCF9827.jpg

I love watching the tigers. I think we watched them for at least a half hour. The rain had slowed down a bit, so I got a bunch of pictures.

Eventually we kept walking, and came across more beautiful animals.

She was apparently posing for me

DSCF9847.jpg

DSCF9848.jpg

They looked like normal deer to me, but I'm not sure.

DSCF9849.jpg

A few of them were really close to the fence.

DSCF9852.jpg

DSCF9855.jpg

There were also some gazelles(I think) in there.

DSCF9856.jpg

Big guy!

DSCF9857.jpg

DSCF9859.jpg

Then all of the little gazelles started running around.

DSCF9863.jpg

DSCF9865.jpg

We went further down the path to get a better view and they just kept running back and forth for a long time. The CM said that she had never seen them so active, but some of the animals are more active in the rain. One of the bigger deer started running with the gazelles, which the CM had never seen before. It was cute

We watched them for a while and then started moving again.

DSCF9869.jpg

After that we did some shopping and then went to see It's Tough to be a Bug, which still freaks me out a little

At some point I took this picture.

DSCF9870.jpg

Then we went to line up for Festival of the Lion King. We were in the front of the line so we got to stand under the little canopy over the doors :worship:

I really, really love this show.

I'll stop here for now. Next time: another safari and dinner at Yak & Yeti!

The only park we've been in recently when it start to downpour is AK. Looks like you guys got it like we did that year! I'm with you on riding in the rain...you DO get absolutely soaked that way. I just remember it was raining so hard, and we were going so fast, it HURT! Plus I was blind because of my glasses getting so wet...definitely a different experience in the rain.

I LOVE the picture of the tiger kinda curled up! Reminds me of how I see little kitties curling up. I posted pictures of them in my last update, too. They're SO cute. Since I'm a weirdo, I always wonder if I'd be allergic to large cats, since I'm highly allergic to regular cats. :confused3

FOTLK!! I MUST see that again on the next trip!!

That big guy directly facing the camera is adorable. I also love the little one posing for you!

Loved your AK update!!! :thumbsup2

You got some really great shots of the Tiger! I swear he hates me, I say that every single trip! He will NOT look at me, no matter what! I don't think I've ever gotten a pic of his face! He's always sleeping or pacing around with his back towards me! He'll look at me briefly & turn away & I never, ever get a shot with his face!

It rained BOTH of our AK days last trip! I was really disappointed because I LOVE AK's parade! It's themed so differently than the others & I always enjoy it! The parade was cancelled both days so we ended up leaving the park early both times. The second day it was a complete downpour!!! I've never seen it rain that hard in FL before! I think the main reason I was disappointed was because every year, we go to MK, DHS, and Epcot at least two days...but always one day to AK. We FINALLY go to AK two days & it rains & the parade is cancelled BOTH times! Geez, my luck!

Keep your fingers crossed for me, ok?! I'm soooo hoping Thomas Gibson is announced on one of the TBA dates of Candlelight Processional so I can see him!!! ;)

Jill says Animal Kingdom is going to be our first park on Saturday. We are going over there to check out the Sundown Celebration. We'll get to Pop Century about lunchtime, eat there, and then go to Animal Kingdom. We probably won't do much in the way of rides.

You got some good tiger pictures. They are beautiful creatures. :)

After that we did some shopping and then went to see It's Tough to be a Bug, which still freaks me out a little

I knew I missed something when I replied a few days ago! I still have never done ITTBAB, because I know I'd freak out, since I am completely terrified of bugs, especially beetles or anything that stings. Here's a good example...I was driving last night with Charles, Kailyn, and my BFF in the car. I had the window open, and as I was talking, I felt something hit my face. I was like "what the heck? Something definitely just flew in the window and hit me in the face." Charles leaned across me (as I'm driving), picked something off my shirt and really quickly flicked it out my window. Turned out it was a Japanese beetle, which ESPECIALLY freak me out because of their weird little legs and how they can cling on to anything and everything. The fact that one flew in my window, hit me in the FACE, and landed on me, almost caused me to melt down. And, a few nights ago, we were at the Park Street stop on the red line, and Charles saw a cockroach under the bench I was sitting on, which caused me to stand up and walk really, really quickly down the other end of the platform. So, yeah, I can never do ITTBAB.

Hey guys! I'm really sorry it's been so long since I updated this. I started my summer psychology class a few weeks ago, and even though it's just one class it's really hard. I'll go back and reply to the everyone's posts from my last update later, and hopefully get an update done really soon! We had a storm yesterday and my internet's been down since then so I'm writing this quickly from school. Hopefully my internet will be back today, and I'll get my report going again soon!

I couldn't believe how wet I was when I got off EE :rotfl:

I love the tigers. It's funny because sometimes they act just like big versions of my cats, especially when they're sleeping

Loved your AK update!!! :thumbsup2

I couldn't believe how many pictures I got of the tigers. They're usually hiding. I had really good luck that day with all of the animals.

Why does it rain so much in AK?! :rotfl: It was funny because it wasn't raining that hard when we were at WL, but it started pouring at AK and then it wasn't raining at all when we went to MK later that night.

I'll be so jealous if you see him

I love the tigers! We really had good luck that day with the animals. The rain was annoying, but we've never seen the animals so active before.

I hate bugs!!!!! Somehow a Japanese beetle ended up in my shirt a few weeks ago when I was taking Daisy outside  And once when I was on the T on my way home from a Sox game there was a spider crawling around on the ceiling. I had to move :rotfl:

Once again, I apologize for the delay in updating!!! It's finally time to get this report going again!

When I left off we had just seen Festival of the Lion King. After the show we headed back towards Africa.

First some tree pictures...

DSCF9894.jpg

I think there were some little monkeys crawling around in here.

DSCF9895.jpg

Notice the clouds in the background. It was still raining

DSCF9898.jpg

We went to check on the line for the safari. It said it was a 10 minute wait, but we ended up walking right on.

After our third amazing safari of the day, we went over to Asia so I could ride Everest again. It wasn't raining that hard at this point, so I thought it was safe

The park was empty. The rain scared everyone else away :rotfl:

DSCF9933.jpg

DSCF9935.jpg

I rode Everest twice as a single rider and basically walked right on both times.

Continued in next post...

After EE, we decided to try to check in for our Yak & Yeti reservation early. We wanted a break from the rain and we were getting hungry. Our ADR was for 6:15 and I think we checked in around 5:45. They seated us right away :thumbsup2

Our waiter's name was Brian, and he was great! Definitely one of the best waiters we've had at Disney.

I got the honey chicken with jasmine rice.

DSCF9939.jpg

This was SO good!!!!! I would love to be able to eat it right now. The chicken was amazing!!!

My mom got sweet and sour chicken with brown rice.

DSCF9941.jpg

She loved her food too.

For dessert, I got the fried wontons.

DSCF9943.jpg

I had heard from a bunch of people that these were really good and I definitely wasn't disappointed!! They were awesome!!!!

My mom got the cheesecake, which she loved.

DSCF9945.jpg

This was our first time at Yak & Yeti and I definitely want to go back on our next trip. We both loved this meal!

After dinner we started the long walk back to the bus stop. Our plan was to go back to WL for a couple hours and then go to MK for EMH.

DSCF9946.jpg

DSCF9947.jpg

The rain wasn't bothering these guys!

DSCF9948.jpg

We got back to WL around 7:00. We had a towel animal waiting for us in our room.

DSCF9949.jpg

I walked around and took pictures for a little bit. Since it was dark and raining, most of them are blurry

DSCF9950.jpg

I had my DIS meet with MeMom and Jill down there last year :thumbsup2

After walking around I went back up to the room to watch TV for a little while. My mom had gone to find one of the cozy areas in the lobby to sit down and read. We went down to the boat a little after 9:00 and got to MK around 9:30. I think EMH was officially starting at 11:00, but because of the rain the park was pretty empty anyway. Luckily the rain had pretty much stopped at this point.

DSCF9979.jpg

I don't really have many good pictures from this night, so I'll just summarize. We started in Adventureland and went around. We rode the Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Splash Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, Snow White, and the People Mover. We would've done more Fantasyland stuff, but most of those lines were still fairly long. We wanted to ride Snow White since we knew it would be closing soon. We stayed until about 11:45 and then we decided to turn in for the night.

Despite the rain, this was a great day. We did three safaris and saw a ton of animals. The rain drove the crowds away and made the animals come out :thumbsup2 It was definitely the best AK day we've ever had.

That's it for now. Next time, breakfast at Cape May Cafe and a day at DHS!
