Day One
We arrived by lunch on June 19 and hooray, our room was ready. After taking the luggage to the room, we headed to DTD for lunch at Earl of Sandwich (DS) and Wolfgang Cafe for me and DH. DS loves Earl of Sandwich, the ham and swiss is the sandwich of choice. After standing in the ridiculously long line at Earl's (tip: get here before noon to avoid the rush) we headed to Wolfgang. DH and I were very disappointed to learn that they have changed the menu. DH loved the bbq chicken quesadilla which is no longer on the menu and I loved the Rotisserie Beef and Gorgonzola Pocket which you guessed it.....it's not offered anymore. Well after much discussion with the cashier, Dh decided on the bbq chicken pizza and I on the Spaghetti with Meatballs (which by the way no longer comes with a side salad). We both had creme brulee and cherry coke. Sorry, we didn't take pics of our lunch.

After lunch we headed back to the resort for swimming in Stormalong Bay.

Dinner was at San Angel Inn. We arrived at 5:20 for a 5:30 reservation. We were seated promptly. The decor of this restaurant is beautiful but the seating can be crowded.

I ordered the Filete Motuleno - Grilled beef tenderloin with beans, Oaxaco melted cheese, Ranchero sauce, Pablano peppers, and fried plaintain $33. Yummy!!! This was very flavorful and I would definitely have it again. The meat was tender and the sauce delicious.
sanAngel5.jpg

DH and DS ordered the Tacos de Ribeye-grilled ribeye served over flour tortillas topped with chipotle pepper sauce and garnished with scallions and avocado $24 .They said this dish was fantastic but not for the faint of heart. This was very flavorful but very hot! Good thing we all took stomach pills before we went. they liked this dish but would not get it agian because of the hotness. Since sweet tea was not available again we drank sodas.
sanangel2.jpg

For dessert I had the Capirotada de Chocolate Blanco - white chocolate golden raisin bread pudding served with Mexican milk caramel $5.75 which was again wonderful. I love bread pudding.
sanangel3.jpg

DH and DS ordered vanilla ice cream with caramel syrup to try and cool down their mouths from the chipotle pepper sauce.
sanangel4.jpg

Our server was great and dinner was wonderful.
We rate San Angel 4 out of 5 sweet teas.

After dinner we went to see the Bee Gee's Tribute band. They were very good but only were able to perform 3 songs due to the storm that blew in.

I'm looking forward to your reviews! My name is also Amy, we are the same age, and I have a son named Caden! Funny.

I agree San Angel looks to have improved snce Sept 2008.. Enjoying the reviews! More pls!

Welcome back guys!! I would rather be hot in WDW than being stuck at home where it is going to hit the triple digits again :rolleyes1...Isn't it nice to have those typical downpour to cool thing down??:goodvibes

I'm looking forward to reading more of your reviews! Hopefully the weather cooperated for the rest of your trip :goodvibes

Day Two: Sunday June 20 Happy Father's Day!!

We headed to MK this morning for rope drop to try and beat the heat. We had an early lunch because of the hot weather and mainly because my guys don't like breakfast food so we generally skip breakfast. Lunch was at our favorite MK restaurant, Columbia Harbour House. This place has a lovely atmosphere. I was dying to try the Lighthouse Sandwich after seeing pics and reading reviews of it on the Disboards. It is a perfect sandwich for summer. DS surprisingly opted for the fish platter instead of the chicken platter. DH had the newly added fried shrimp platter, which he said reminded him of Captain D's.

The Lighthouse Sandwich consisted of toasted wholewheat bread, hummus, broccoli salad, and tomatoes. It definitely lived up to the hype. Dessert was an apple crisp for me and DH and DS had the chocolate cake.

Sorry no pic of dessert or the fish.

We give this four out of five sweet teas.

Dinner----Ohana's
ohanasign.jpg

We are not big on buffets but family style service works well. For those of you that have not dined at this restaurant, it is a must do (at least once). We arrived just before the rain and we were seated promptly beside the window with a great view.
viewohana.jpg

All meats are cooked on an open fire pit.
ohanafire.jpg

The menu consists of: salad with honey lime dressing, Asian noodles, steamed vegetables, pineapple coconut bread, dumplings (no not like your grandma makes, more like pot stickers), teriyaki wings, grilled chicken, shrimp, steak, and pork. There are three dipping sauces. These are peanut, mustard, and a sweet and spicy sauce.

Bread-DS likes this bread but me and DH think is just okay.
ohanabread.jpg

Salad-Now I'm a salad lover and this perhaps is my favorite salad in all of WDW. The honey lime dressing is fantastic. The crispness of the lettuce and the tangy flavor of the dressing is just what is needed for a hot day.
ohanasalad.jpg

Asian noodles and steamed veggies-DH loves the Asian noodles.
noodlesandvegetables.jpg

wings-me and DH love the wings. They are messy but they give you hot towels to clean your hands with.
wings.jpg

Dumplings - My DH absolutely loves these dumplings.
ohanadumpling.jpg

Shrimp - Is probably the least favorite of the meats because we are lazy and we don't like to peel the shrimp (that still didn't stop us from eating them).
ohanashrimp.jpg

Steak - The steak has a good flavor but it's not a very high quality steak.
sreak.jpg

Chicken and pork - You guessed it. The chicken is DS's favorite. The pork is DH's favorite. Both are very flavorful and very juicy.
porkandchicken.jpg

Dessert - Bread pudding. This is the king of all desserts. Warm bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream topped with caramel/banana sauce. It's yummy yummy.
breadpudding.jpg

Service was a little slow but overall we give this Father's Day meal a 4 and a half out of 5 sweet teas.

Mmm loving the reviews I am planning on renting points to stay at a Beach Club villa for my honeymoon was it nice? And question did you get a refillable mug at all if you did , did you find it easy to get it refilled etc?

Thanks for the reviews of San Angel and Ohana's. Those tacos look good and I didn't see them on the dinner menu on AllEars for San Angel. We can't decide between lunch or dinner there.

Being from the South (and also a Vol fan) I sure do miss sweet tea when I go to Disney too. If I could set up a sweet tea stand somewhere in MK I bet I could make a fortune.

You will LOVE the villas. I never buy the refillable mugs. Since we drive to Disney we always bring our own drinks and just put them in the fridge. It's a healthy walk to the refill station. If you are able try and bring your own drinks. If you can't you might want to give the Garden Grocer a try.

The tacos were very good but very spicy. I'm not sure why the current San Angel menu is not on AllEars. We noticed the difference in the menu immediately. I just love the atmoshere inside the Mexican Pavillon and the cold AC dosen't hurt.

I have never understood why it is so difficult to get sweet tea once you get past South of Ocala.:confused3

I live approximately 4 hours from Disney and couldn't believe it when I heard you couldn't get real tea at Disney. My favorite drink is half sweet, half unsweet tea because southerners are known to dump a boat load of sugar in their tea :rotfl:. I guess I'll be drinking lots of water which is better for you anyways ;).

Day three: June 21

Today was an Animal Kingdom Park day. We arrived extra early for rope drop hoping to get a glimpse at some of the animals before the sweltering heat drove them into hiding. We headed straight to Expedition Everest riding then getting a fastpass for later. Next was the safari. We got some great shots. Dinosaur was next. Now DH hates this ride because it is jerky and loud but didn't protest too much since it was air conditioned.

Now in our opinion, AK lacks in indoor counter service options. We love Flame Tree BBQ but it only has outdoor seating and in the summer it it way too hot to even entertain the thought of dining outside. The only indoor dining AK offers is Pizzafari and Restaurantosaurus.

We chose Pizzafari because DS like Pizza, DH likes the Hot Italian Style Sandwich and I wanted a salad. This restaurant has a fun decor, with bright colors and murals painted on the walls of animals.
pizzafari-Copy.jpg

DS ordered the Pizza served with Caesar Salad $8.29, Chocolate Mousse $3.59 and a soda. What can I say here? It's pizza and chocolate. He didn't touch the salad.
pizzadinner-Copy.jpg

DH ordered the Hot Italian Style Sandwich with Chips - Turkey, ham, Swiss and Provolone Cheese topped with Caesar salad and pesto marinated tomatoes - $8.39, Chocolate Mousse $3.59 and water. He liked all of it.
SANDWICH.jpg

I ordered the Caesar Salad with Chicken $7.79, No Sugar Added Strawberry Parfait $3.59 and a soda. The salad has grilled chicken in huge pieces that you have to cut up. I did find some fat on my chicken (yuck) and just mainly picked the chicken out and enjoyed the salad. The Strawberry parfait was very refreshing. Sweet but not too sweet. I was disappointed to see that the minute maid frozen lemonades had been removed from the menu.
salad-Copy.jpg

Lunch here is once again okay. Not the most fabulous meal but it is good. We will give it a 3 out of 5 sweet teas because it is just average.
3teas.jpg

After lunch it was back to the resort for some much needed swimming. Dinner is at The Captain's Grille at the Beach and Yacht Club.
captgrill.jpg

Dinner was at 5:25. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were immediately seated. We had eaten here several years ago and enjoyed. This restaurant is simple in style and very relaxing.

DS and DH both had selections from the Captain's Grille Experience which allows you to choose one item from each category $27.99
menu.jpg

DS chose the New England Clam Chowder as his appetizer, Roasted Chicken Breast served with mushroom pearl pasta and seasonal vegetables (we asked for no veggies) for his entree, and the Key Lime Pie for dessert.
He liked the chicken but the pearl pasta not so much. I ate the clam chowder and it was yummy.

DH had the Lump Crab Cake for his appetizer, the Grilled Pork Chop - with sauteed fingerling potatoes, apples and bacon for his entree, and the Chocolate Profiterole for dessert. Now DH isn't a picky eater but he claims the lump crab cake was mediocre at best. The pork chop was delicious and could easily (in his opinion) the best item on the menu. The dessert was just okay too.

I had the Chef's Pasta creation. It was a potato based pasta with grilled shrimp, in a cheesy sauce. It was very yummy! For dessert I chose the apple tart. Again, this was a good dessert. Sweet but not too sweet. It was apple compote on a shortbread cookie with caramel whip cream.
I really enjoyed my dinner.

We had an excellent waitress who was very attentive but that could be due to the fact that she say use taking pictures of the food and DH told her we were doing a food review :rotfl:. The manager even came by twice to see how we were enjoying our meal.

We are going to give this restaurant a 3 out of 5 sweet teas because as you will see later in the trip we go back and determine the food here is hit or miss.

Great photos... Love your review of Ohana, we will be going there for the first time on our September trip, looking forward to it. I think the kids will like the atmosphere there.

That baby monkey is SO CUTE! :upsidedow
