It's Happening One Way Or The Other! - Oct 2016 PTR - Updated 10/11 - Single Digit Dance

Well I just today noticed your link in your signature when you "mega commented" on my TR!

I was confused reading your PTR at first because I was like :scratchin "Weren't we going at the same time and going to try for some meet ups?"

Then I saw that you changed the trip after the initial posting. Too much to comment on but you seem to have had a really fun year with all sorts of stuff going on as well as some very difficult times. I hope that your MIL gets better and they can help her out. Cancer is an awful disease, but there have been so many advancements made in the last few decades.

The car incident sounds scary, I'm glad you were OK. You are incredibly creative! I don't know how folks like you and @Leshaface pull off those themed parties! I'm lucky to make the food and get my house almost clean.

OK down to the nitty gritty on the trip. I saw that you pretty much got the ADRs that you wanted. I did too, but I'm now waiting on the special events schedule to see what dining experiences we want to try and book, like Tequila Tasting Lunch, or Italian Wine Lunch, etc.

October 19
Flight leaves St. Louis at 8 am
Arrives at MCO at 11 am
Take ME to ASMo
Early dinner ADR at 50's Prime Time
Head to MK for evening EMH ~ MSEP @ 9 pm, Wishes @ 10 pm, FP for Peter Pan, Space Mountain, Pirates

OK, this is a really detailed plan for this far out! Didn't you want to try and get FP+ for 7DMT? I think my only "plans" for the day will be to hit up the kiosks for some snacks during the day. That evening a DISmeet is being planned with Steppesister and all the folks following her Epic PTR.

October 20
Bus to EPCOT for morning EMH
FP for Soarin', Journey into Imagination, and the new Frozen ride (if open. If not, we'll pick a toss one)
Food & Wine Festival
Pick a Pearl
Agent P Game
Illuminations

You guys must have a lot of stamina to be able to plan an entire day away from the resort even with EMH! I'll have to remember that there are Epcot EMH. Test Track is open during EMH right? This might be a good day to plan for a meet up if you would like to. We will most likely do the kiosks again for this day. We have a 6:30PM ADR at Yachtsman, but we're wide open the rest of the day (at least so far!)

October 21
Bus to Hollywood Studios
FP for Toy Story, Star Tours, Frozen Sing Along
Lunch ADR at SciFi Dine Inn
Star Wars Dessert Party (if still offering)

These sound like great plans! I'll be curious to know if they are still offering the Star Wars Dessert Party, we did it in 2014 and it was very good. I love SciFi, but I saw that was your husbands favorite, so no wonder you are going back!

October 22
Head to Animal Kingdom
Early breakfast ADR at Tusker House (ROL dining package)
Wilderness Explorers
Bloody Mary @ Dawa Bar
FP for Expedition Everest, Safari, and It's Tough to Be a Bug

I will be interested to hear about the RoL dining packages. I didn't think about those. We had hoped to see it on our last trip, but they delayed the opening from April 22 to Mid summer. So we will definitely be looking at this for the Fall trip. Thanks for reminding me!

October 23
Pre-park opening breakfast ADR at Crystal Palace
FP for Mine Train, Jungle Cruise, Splash Mountain
Festival of Fantasy parade at 3 pm
Disney Springs or resort hopping in the evening

Ah, OK, here is your 7DMT FP+! OK. Sounds good!

October 24
Travel to HS
Dinner ADR at Mama Melrose or Minnie's Holiday Dine (Fantasmic dining package)
FP for RNR, Tower of Terror and Voyage of LM (which will be a wasted one)

Plans sound good! I hear that you don't have to make all three FP+ if you don't want to in the near future.

October 25
Bus to EPCOT
FP for Test Track, The Seas and possibly M&G with Anna & Elsa (otherwise it'll just be a toss one)
Food & Wine Festival
Finish Agent P game, if not already done
Dinner ADR at Liberty Tree at 4 pm
MNSSHP

This is another possibility for a meet up since you will be out of Epcot fairly early. We have reservations for dinner at V&A's that night for JediJills Birthday.

October 26
Check out of ASMo
Breakfast ADR at Whispering Canyon
Shopping at Disney Springs
Meet ME at 3:30 pm
Flight leaves MCO at 7:30 pm
Arrives in STL at 9 pm

You folks must be much earlier risers that we are! I noticed that your breakfast ADRs are at 7:00-7:30ish, we don't even know that time except for me checking out my phone on the DIS and FB! I'm lucky to get Fran up and going by 8:00AM! I'm not sure how much you know about Whispering Canyon, but we had a total blast! You'll see the details in my TR! I hope to start the new one by the end of the week!

To round it out, my doctor did some blood tests for my regular check up and I now have Type 2 diabetes. While I'm obviously not thrilled with this, it's hopefully been caught soon enough that I can do something about it. I have now started taking metformin (which thankfully has only made me feel horrible once so far) and I've had to change my eating habits. I go back in a month to get my A1C checked again so fingers crossed.

I know how you feel. I was diagnosed somewhere around your age, maybe a few years later. I have a cocktail of meds, including Metformin and I've been tweaking everything for the last year. I am convinced that vacationing is my downfall to my A1C. It was great last year when we canceled all our trips, but I think when I go take my blood tests next week, the results are not going to be so good, so I'm here with you. I know it's not a great option, but when I ate a vegan diet for two weeks, my blood sugar was lower than ever. But who wants to eat like that forever? :confused3

The things we do for the love of Disney right??

No kidding! I even get up early almost every park day for Disney too. :)

OH my gosh, I hope they are able to work something out with the insurance company. Seriously, who wants to deal with all that logistical stuff when you're sick?!?

I hope so too. It's ridiculous! I loathe insurance companies.

The most perfect GIF for this! :rotfl: I'm afraid to ask, what was the price difference from this year to last year???:scared::scared:

When we went in 2013, they were $66. Last year they were $74. I knew an increase was coming but I was hoping it wasn't going to be that much. :(

This burns me up so bad. I cannot even begin to explain the length and depth of my hatred for insurance companies, and the healthcare system in this country in general. What is the point of having all this excellent advanced medical technology if nobody can afford it, and what is the point of having insurance when they refuse to pay for those treatments! GRRRR! /rant

I know, right??? That's the thing that irritates me the most. It's like they would rather pay to take care of the problem AFTER it's already happened instead of trying to prevent it. These are tests she needs to make sure the cancer hasn't spread anywhere else. It's not just something she woke up int he morning and decided that she wanted a bunch of painful medical procedures done to her!

I'm so glad to hear that you're doing relatively well on the Metformin! And good luck with the diet changes, I know how tough it can be to adapt to! You can do it, though!

Thanks! SO far, it's still going okay, except I realized I was only taking it once a day instead of twice a day. (I really need to perfect my reading skills). The diet changes are definitely a daily battle. Because I've been eating a certain way for so long, it's hard to break out of that cycle sometimes.

EXACTLY. My family hates that I keep spending every extra penny I have on my Disney trips, but they just don't understand that without Disney to look forward to and help be deal with life, I'd probably be on anti-depressants and anxiety meds! Disney is my drug of choice! :thumbsup2

Exactly!! My mom doesn't get it at all. Every since she found out we were going again, every conversation I have with her has her saying at some point how we should cancel the trip and use the money for a new car or house improvements or whatever. She's a bit of a buzz kill.

Every trip I saw I'm going to do some sort of lime green mickey head, and then I never do! Maybe I'll finally try it in October! :scratchin

If you want, I could make you one when I make mine. With my Cricut, it takes no time at all.

YAAAAY! I love food updates!!! :hyper:

Hoping to get to this today!

Wow! I'm glad my parents don't meddle in our financial affairs! I guess it's good being a DVC owner because then I have an excuse, "we need to go, we have points to use up!"

Well I just today noticed your link in your signature when you "mega commented" on my TR!

Oh yeah...sorry about that! lol

Then I saw that you changed the trip after the initial posting. Cancer is an awful disease, but there have been so many advancements made in the last few decades.

That they have. When she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer right before our last trip, we were expecting the worst because everything we heard was that kind of cancer was hard to beat. But beat it she did so we're hoping for a positive outcome this time too.

The car incident sounds scary, I'm glad you were OK. You are incredibly creative! I don't know how folks like you and @Leshaface pull off those themed parties! I'm lucky to make the food and get my house almost clean.

Hahaha!! I have Pinterest to thank for a lot of it. I always tell myself that I'll never plan another one because they are so stressful for me but I never seem to listen!

You guys must have a lot of stamina to be able to plan an entire day away from the resort even with EMH! I'll have to remember that there are Epcot EMH. Test Track is open during EMH right? We are like the Energizer Bunny at WDW. We go, go, go until we crash. I believe Test Track is open during EMH. We'll keep this day in mind for a meet up then, providing schedules don't change. :)

These sound like great plans! I'll be curious to know if they are still offering the Star Wars Dessert Party, we did it in 2014 and it was very good. I love SciFi, but I saw that was your husbands favorite, so no wonder you are going back!

I'm really hoping they do. I know DH would love it. I've purposely have it kept it a secret so far because I don't want to get his hopes up if they end up not having it.

I will be interested to hear about the RoL dining packages. I didn't think about those. We had hoped to see it on our last trip, but they delayed the opening from April 22 to Mid summer. So we will definitely be looking at this for the Fall trip. Thanks for reminding me!

I hoping these get released soon. I know they are waiting until they get the show running but I'm getting impatient! lol

Plans sound good! I hear that you don't have to make all three FP+ if you don't want to in the near future.

I've heard that too. That would work out better for us on a couple of days.

This is another possibility for a meet up since you will be out of Epcot fairly early. We have reservations for dinner at V&A's that night for JediJills Birthday.

We'll keep this one in mind too. I'm open for anything because I obviously don't want to bogart anyone's vacation.

Only at WDW are we early risers. lol I've read a bunch of reviews for Whispering Canyon and I had to give DH a heads up. He's not too big on hijinx so he knows what NOT to ask for lol.

I can totally understand that. I will try to follow my diet as close as I can while at WDW but I also know I'm going to slip up quite a bit. I saw that you did vegan and I'm not so sure I could do it. I did vegetarian for Lent one year and I think DH was ready to divorce me by the end. :)

I finally got my MagicBand done last night and I couldn't be happier with it!!

FullSizeRender.jpg IMG_0517.JPG

The decals I got from another member in a Disney fans group I'm in and then I got glow in the dark paint to do both Mickey heads and the "bodies" of the ghosts. With that hot Florida sun, I should have no problem keeping it charged. :thumbsup2

Also DH and I are really planning our QS options as much as our TS but we have come up with a list of places we might want to check out. Please feel free to give me your opinions. As I've mentioned, I'm the adventurous eater & get tired of burgers, fries, and chicken nuggets really quickly whereas DH could eat them every meal, every day.

Cooke's of Dublin
Superstar Catering Food Truck

Harambe Market
Sunshine Seasons
Taste Track
Kringla Bakeri
Les Halles
Tangierine Cafe
Yorkshire Fish
ABC Commissary
Backlot Express
Columbia Harbor House
Pecos Bill

I think some of the ones listed may just be a snacky kind of thing but you get the general idea. I've also come to the conclusion that there are going to be times where I go to one place while DH goes to another and we meet in the middle to dine together.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on must-try cupcakes, I'll take those as well. We're both suckers for cupcakes. :)

I am like you. I like variety in my food. While I don't mind burgers, I don't want to eat them every day. Even once a week is overdoing it. I will comment on what I know. Cooke's of Dublin is one of our favorite places! Their Onion Rings are a great value. For $5 you get a whole bunch of onion rings! The Food Trucks are only open for dinner which I think is silly, but what do I know?

There are lots of good options at Sunshine Seasons, probably a great place if you and your DH aren't quite on the same page. Yorkshire fish is good, but I would take Cooke's over it if given the choice.

We always seem to end up at Backlot Express when at DHS. I like their turkey sandwich with bacon. Fran likes their hot dogs.

Columbia Harbor House is our goto QS in MK. We like it because it is not burgers and hot dogs. The Clam Chowder is good, and we like the fried fish dishes.

I like your MB too!

That is so cool!

Taste Track

Hmm, where's this at??

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on must-try cupcakes, I'll take those as well. We're both suckers for cupcakes. :)

Agh I am too! (what am I saying, i'm a sucker for sugar!)

Please check this out!

I've tried the first two (can't remember if I tried the Butterfinger) but the Red Velvet was incredible! So many cupcakes, not enough stomach!

Looks FANTASTIC!!! But how do you have your MB already?! Did you buy one? Or is this for an AP?

Cooke's of Dublin
I haven't eaten here, but I have eaten at Raglan Road, and I've been told they serve some of the same stuff. And I LOVED my meal at Raglan Road, so I assume Cooke's of Dublin will be just as good!

Harambe Market
I love the ribs here! Sooooo good!

Sunshine Seasons
The pork chop and the strawberry shortcake are AMAZEBALLS.

Kringla Bakeri
I haven't been here since 2009, but it's on my list for October also! I'm trying to decide between reacquainting myself with the School Bread, or trying out the Troll Horn. (Or let's be honest... Possibly BOTH!)

Les Halles
I looooved my lunch here in December!!

Yorkshire Fish
Went last April and it was definitely yummy!

Backlot Express
This is on my list for October also, very specifically for the BB-8 Lemon Cupcake and "Dark Side" Chicken and Vader Waffles! :darth:

Columbia Harbor House
This is a regular stop for me. Big fan of the lobster roll!

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on must-try cupcakes, I'll take those as well. We're both suckers for cupcakes. :)
Starring Rolls Cafe, and the Boardwalk Bakery!

Thanks for all the food recommendations. I am so ready for this trip. Well, mentally at least. I still have a lot to do to get physically ready for it but we'll get into that later.

I know, right!!! And they are constantly changing the selections!! You know, I would volunteer to move to Florida and be a Disney Cupcake reporter. Just saying.

Looks FANTASTIC!!! But how do you have your MB already?! Did you buy one? Or is this for an AP?

Thanks! I caved & bought it around Christmas time with a gift card I got. Of course, now they have it as a free choice. Grrrrrr.

Just made it over here from my PTR to yours. I'm caught up and I must say - I LOVE YOUR HM BAND COVER! ::yes::

Thanks! I'm really happy with it too. Check out my next post! I have more decorations for it.

I don't know?? I thought you were. Maybe the DIS is acting up again. In any case, I'm glad you found me!

Like a lot of people going in October, things are slowly trudging along trip wise. We got our MNSSHP tickets in the mail (still wish they would put Halloween designs on them). I'm still working on all the DIYs. I have the t-shirts that I need, as well as the iron transfer paper but of course our printer just completely quit working so I'm at a stand still until we can get a new one. I still need to decorate DH's MagicBand but I can't do that until it ships. We are using our trick-or-treat bags from our last trip so no need to do anything with those. I started my autograph book on my trip a couple of weeks ago (which I'll go into on the next real life post) and it's about 1/3 of the way done. I've also gotten everything made for our window decorations but there's a couple of things I'll need to buy. Here's my DIS sign for our window (my backpack tag matches this, just much smaller).

FullSizeRender.jpg

I've also been going through our Disney box to see what we have & still need to buy. We're still planning on shipping a small box of stuff down like we did last trip but sending it much earlier so hopefully it won't get lost again. I'll place our Minimus order in August so it will arrive at our house in plenty of time. While I was going through our Disney box, though, I found these guys. I completely forgot I had bought them to go with my MagicBand!

ECDV6399.jpg

I love them!!! And they glow in the dark as well!! You'll see me coming from a mile away, at night at least.

I've been keeping up with the current list of pressed coins at WDW and marking off which ones we already have. Our change jar is about halfway filled so we'll cash that in probably in Sept. so we can send the rolls of change in our shipped box.

I love it when a plan comes together!

Luckily our non-Disney life has been keeping us pretty busy.

DH's mom has started her treatments and has responded really well. She only has 1 or 2 more treats & she says she can already tell the lump in her neck has gotten smaller. Luckily with the treatment they have her on, she won't get sick or lose her hair. The only side effect she's experienced is itching in her limbs, which they said is normal but really annoying.

I don't know if I already mentioned this but a few months ago, I resigned from my Marketing position at my workplace. I've still continued to work there as the Executive Assistant to the VP of the company (just a really fancy term for "slave girl"). This position has kept me super busy at work and then the girl that replaced me as receptionist turns in her 3 week notice. And do you think within those 3 weeks they could have hired someone else.

giphy.gif

So that leaves me covering her position and my position. Then the husband of my friend & co-worker passed away over Labor Day weekend so I've been trying to fill in for her as much as I can as well. Thankfully, she's back to work today & they have a potential candidate for the receptionist so maybe things will get back to normal soon.

DH and I also took a mini vacation May 19-23 to Pigeon Forge in the Smokey Mountains. I had never been before and a crafting group that I belong to on FB has a retreat there every year. Oh my gosh! I loved it. The drive was pretty long but once we hit the mountains, it was so pretty!!

IMG_0545.JPG

Most of my time was spent with the girls in my group but DH and I did manage a couple of meals together. Most of the ladies were really super nice and I got one of three scrapbooks of our last trip done (winner winner). The theme of this year's retreat was Rock Around the Crop (for those who don't know, a crop is just a group of crazy ladies getting together to "craft") and we had a sock hop on Saturday night.

IMG_0559.JPG

Then before we headed back to St. Louis on Monday, DH and I made a few stops. I had promised him we could go to the Titanic Museum if we could also go to the Disney Outlet store (once again, winner winner). This is the 5th?? Titanic Museum we've gone to and while they're all pretty much the same, there's still always new displays in each one. We both enjoyed it.

IMG_0568.JPG

On the way out of town, we stopped at an apple orchard that contained a winery, candy shop, general store, and 2 restaurants. I got a gallon of homemade apple cider at the general store and then we grabbed some lunch. I wish I had taken pictures of our food for you all but I snarfed it down too quickly. I was in apple heaven! Our meals came with homemade apple fritters with apple butter along with an "Applewood Julep", which was a blend of pineapple, orange, and apple juices. Each meal also came with a bowl of soup. I was so full, I had to bring my whole sandwich home with me!! Thank goodness we brought a cooler.

The ride home was pretty uneventful, except for my friend calling me to tell me Oshie had gotten into his food container and eaten almost everything that was left (it was half full when we left town). Little pig.

So now we're gearing up for summer, which is usually pretty boring for us because I prefer to be in air conditioning :) We do have a few things coming up as well as a few pool days and a trip to Metropolis this weekend for DH and a couple of his friends. I think some of my family might also be coming to visit this summer so I'm looking forward to that too.

I have the t-shirts that I need, as well as the iron transfer paper but of course our printer just completely quit working so I'm at a stand still until we can get a new one.
I'm stuck, too! I would love to do an iron-on or two for my October trip, but recently my company got rid of all of our InkJet printers and switched over to Laser. And I know the transfer paper that I have is very clear than it MUST be inkjet. And I don't have a printer at home. So I'm pretty bummed out!

Ahhh! I love these!!

I love it when a plan comes together!
You and me both, girl!

I soooo relate to this. We've been plagued by staffing issues at my work for over a year now, and guess who always gets stuck picking up the slack? THIS GIRL!

Agh, love this! I made one once for our trip in 2010 and then for a cruise in 2011, but haven't since then. I always forget!

I'll place our Minimus order in August

Oh no i'm so sorry!

This is the 5th?? Titanic Museum we've gone to

Wow, had no idea there was that many of them! Very cool.

Yeah, let me tell you what happens when you use them in a laser printer. It melts inside your printer, the printer starts pouring black smoke, and it's an epic fail. I may have found this out last night.

I'm hoping we can get a new one in a couple of weeks. I've been watching for good sales.

Ahhh! I love these!!

Thank you! I can't believe I forgot I had them.

I soooo relate to this. We've been plagued by staffing issues at my work for over a year now, and guess who always gets stuck picking up the slack? THIS GIRL!

This is the 2nd time this has happened and it's so frustrating. I have been told by my boss that I will be rewarded for my hard work but I'm not going to talk about that until it actually happens.

giphy (2).gif

I adore the LGMH!!!!

Oh, thank you! I'll probably look like a dork but I don't care.

Agh, love this! I made one once for our trip in 2010 and then for a cruise in 2011, but haven't since then. I always forget!

Thanks! I get the impression they're not used very often anymore so I'll probably be the only one there with one. lol

What's this?

Minimus is a website that sells tons of travel size items like toiletries, laundry items, food, drink mixes, etc. We order a lot of camping items through there and we place an order every vacation. It's really helpful for us.

How many coins do you have now?

Disney coins we have 82 and I'm almost ashamed to admit they are all from our last trip. Total coins we have probably close to 200.

Oh no i'm so sorry!

Thank you! It was very sudden but she is a strong lady & seems to be doing okay, for the most part.

Wow, had no idea there was that many of them! Very cool.

I didn't either until we started going to them lol. So far we've been a traveling exhibit here in St. Louis and then exhibits in Las Vegas, Pigeon Forge, Branson, and Orlando. I usually find them pretty interesting too so I can't complain.
