It's Better Than Stuffed Mezzaluna with Sausage! [Update 4/11: Link to TR!]

I also hate being absent from work. It does create more work. I have to take at least one day off this week for something DF (I remembered the first time!) needs done and while I really want to take another day to be there for him, I know it will cause me so much grief at work. I really don't know what to do. I'm glad it's not just me who feels that way.

I think your "new" point and shoot is the same one we have. I loved it! (Of course, until it was being weird and we took it to Best Buy to get it fixed and then they broke it worse!) We got a new one which I don't even like as much so far.

It will be so exciting if Weird proposes in WDW! (Got that, Weird! ;)) Although, I kept telling DF that I wanted him to propose in WDW, but I think it was more special that he didn't, because he did it in a way that had more meaning to us. (And he's not the hugest Disney fan, sadly!)

I love your book report idea as well!

Weird's new camera looks just like mine and I love it!!! Mine is a Cannon Rebel xsi. I think he'll really enjoy it. :thumbsup2

LOL, that penguin is so stinkin' cute.

Bummer about being sick and having all that work to catch up on.:guilty:

YAY on the new camera! I would love to get an SLR.

Ninja's "new" point and shoot is the Canon SD750. I actually had it for a while and I was stupid with it because I kept it in my backpack and the screen cracked on it! I was so upset by it, I just set it aside for a while because there was nothing I could do with it. Then I started searching around and found that I could send it to a place to get a replacement screen. Needless to say, I sent it in and got it fixed so I kept it safe from there on in!

Haha, I know it'll be exciting if I propose in WDW and believe me, I would love to. But since Ninja reads this as it is her thread, I won't be able to confirm nor deny whether or not it'll happen! Guess you guys will have to read the TR! ;)

You almost got it! I actually got the Canon Rebel T1i. Very similar if not the same body. I already enjoy it a lot! Go Canon! :thumbsup2

That penguin is so very cute! And the person who took the picture is even cuter :lovestruc

Great camera! I can't wait to see what those photos look like! :thumbsup2

What a cool idea about the momento box for a book report! I like out of the norm things like that. :goodvibes

New camera(s)! How exciting! Your trip to WDW just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? I love taking photos...I can't wait to see what you get photos of while you are in Florida.

I'm glad you are feeling better...isn't it crazy how quickly you can get behind on things while sick?

I'm glad you are feeling better!!!!!!!!! I hate being sick!

I agree with you with the belly button. They changed mine to....okay well I healed funny. But it used to be more open and now it's shifted and I love a little scar that goes from the bottom of it down. I hate the bigger on where the stuck the camera inside. It looks like a pair of lips resting on my stomach. (Kind of sucky for me since I'm a Belly Dancer....but I'm growing to accept them)

Wow your such a cool teacher all your projects would be 100% fun to make/do!

My mom jokes that I have both the innie and outie because it couldn't decide. A pastor at my church had the surgery, and after months, his returned back to normal. I kept checking and checking, but alas, it never did! I remember seeing it for the first time when it was still bloody and only had the tape covering it after the surgery. I thought it was a cotton ball!!!

Hope your DF is okay! I know it's been a while since I posted here, but I do hope everything worked out well. I have been having thoughts about taking another mental health day because the kids are so frustrating for the past few days that it just makes me wonder why I'm a teacher. But I've got the week off soon, so I have to just hold on! I did recently get a letter from a student who graduated last year about how much he appreciates everything I did for him. He wrote with such detail, listing out the things he remembers and all the help I gave. It did encourage me so much more. It's always for that one student, right?

Weird and I recently had a long talk about the possible WDW proposal. I'm content right now; whenever he proposes will be wonderful! I know he'll put thought into it, and if it's not at WDW, it doesn't matter. I'll still be there with my Weird! We never thought we'd get the chance until Disneymoon!

Thanks! I love making up fun projects and activities; often times it creates more work for me, but oh well! Haha. I'd have a lot of work to do regardless, so I might as well make them do projects they'll remember.

Weird's new camera looks just like mine and I love it!!! Mine is a Cannon Rebel xsi. I think he'll really enjoy it. :thumbsup2

Haha, I've been enjoying his camera more, I think. I take pictures every day, but I haven't seen anything from him *hint hint, Weird*

LOL, that penguin is so stinkin' cute.

YAY on the new camera! I would love to get an SLR.

I have penguins all over. They make the perfect models for me and my *new* digi cam! I did have so much fun playing with his SLR though that part of me wants one of my own! Of course, when we're married, I'll have access to it, so that's a much cheaper way to get it!

Whether it's in WDW or not, just make sure Snow White isn't singing in the background ...

Hehe, just as an explanation for everyone else - I was watching Disney proposals, and there was one in Disneyland by the fountain and in the background, there's the recording of Snow White singing! Her voice is ... um, just not a pleasant singing voice, haha. Weird agrees!

Great camera! I can't wait to see what those photos look like! :thumbsup2

What a cool idea about the momento box for a book report! I like out of the norm things like that. :goodvibes

Me too! I love the clear pictures that can be found on the photography board, but sometimes I get a little bored with those TRs just because I like reading about experiences too. Hopefully, I'll have a good TR because I'll do the writing and Weird will provide many good pics!

Some of my kids were so creative thinking of things to put in the boxes! I was so proud of some of them. Of course, there were others who didn't put effort into it, but what can ya do!

New camera(s)! How exciting! Your trip to WDW just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? I love taking photos...I can't wait to see what you get photos of while you are in Florida.

I'm glad you are feeling better...isn't it crazy how quickly you can get behind on things while sick?

It does keep getting better and better! I just read SoonerGirl's latest installment, and she said that she had the frozen Coke from Goofy's Candy Co so I'm really excited about that because I heard from someone else that it wasn't there. Crossing my fingers that it'll be there in April! Haha, the little things get me excited. Plus, I'm trying to get through my after school tutoring sessions (even though I'm exhausted from a day of work) by reminding myself ... it's Disney money!!!

To Cut or Not To Cut: A Hair Dilemma

The thing I've been thinking about lately is whether or not I should cut my hair before or after Florida. Back when I was in college, I think, I cut my hair for Locks of Love. It ended up being 14 inches.

Two years ago, I did it again because we had a huge benefit event at my school where a bunch of students and 2 teachers (me included!). Of course, I just cut some off and added long layers in it before our previous Florida trip, so it wasn't as long as it could have been. However, to have more hair to donate, I told the girl to cut it off in sections so that each chunk would be as long as it could be. This is the day or so after the event:

Haha, can you tell I'm grading? I have the red pen in my hand.
quiche8.jpg

I even wrote a quick article to put in our school newspaper. I'll post it here in red, so if you want to skip it, you'll know where it stops:

My Former Glory
By Miss RachelNinja

“On May 9, 2008, I had 10 inches of my hair cut off for the Locks of Love event that was held here at [name of school]. It was a joy to donate my hair. It was great knowing that someone would benefit from it. I would gladly do it again in a heartbeat.”

Ok, as much as I would have loved for that to be my personal experience, I’m going to admit that that’s not entirely true. Sure, I did cut off 10 inches of my hair. Sure, I’m glad that a little girl can finally get her wig partially because of my donation. But I’m not entirely sure how much of a joy it was …

When this event was announced, part of me automatically jumped with excitement at the idea. I had cut off 14-inches a few years back and was excited to do it again. The cause actually hits close to home. I actually have a very close friend who was diagnosed with alopecia totalis when he was in junior high. [He] was teased incessantly for being bald at such a young age. Even today, he still remains hair-free as it never returned. He told me about how devastating it was. I just thought about how I would feel to lose my hair at ANY age. I had 10-inches of my hair cut off … 10-inches that would eventually grow back with time.

Also, ever since the beginning of the year, I had a few girls comment on how much they loved my long hair. It was nice to hear such comments when I used to have frizzy, poufy hair that made me incredibly awkward during my teenage years. So the fact that I had manageable hair at this point was great. The fact that I had girls like my hair was thrilling. I guess you could say my hair was my glory.

I actually wanted to set an example for the students. I wanted them to learn a lesson. In my head, I imagined the shock on the girls’ faces, and I planned out my reply: “Guys, it’s just hair. It’ll grow back.” Climbing up to the stage was exciting! I thought everything would turn out exactly as I had pictured it.

Well, what do you know! As I went to the restroom afterwards to check out my new haircut, I had fairly high hopes. However, when I glanced at that mirror … I felt like I looked 14-years old again!

I left the school soon after and spent some time at home trying to manipulate my hair so that I wouldn’t look like the picture on my high school ID card as a freshman … but nothing seemed to work. Throughout the next few days, I was actually the one who learned the lesson …

Having the shorter hair made me feel different. It was as if having the haircut of the 14-year old me also brought along the insecurities of the 14-year old me. Instead of giving my planned reply to everyone else, I kept having to reassure myself that my hair would grow back. That is when I realized how much my hair and outward appearance mattered to me. I always acted as if it didn’t, but now that the “good thing” about me was gone, I felt a little lower than I did before.

Throughout that experience, God reminded me that who I am is not based on how I look. I was reminded of the fact that: “The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). I was still the same person I was, except with shorter hair. I still cringe when people write “could of” instead of “could have,” I’m still terrified of the Easter bunny (and other costumed people), and I still love penguins. It might be obvious to say this, but nothing changed … except for my hair length!

The lesson that I learned helped me refocus my priorities. I don’t want to be a woman of this world. I want to be a woman of God! If cutting my hair was how God reminded me of that then I’m extremely grateful for the experience. So anyway, back to that idea of it being a joy … yes, it was definitely a joy. And yes, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Well, that was the last time I cut it, and now it's long enough to do it again! Weird took this picture the last he was over. He was experimenting with his new SLR, and I was watching Veronica Mars, haha.

Quiche6-1.jpg

Later on that night, I asked for him to take a picture of the back so I could get a good one of the length. Seeing it from the back makes me realize how much hair I really have because it's never quite the same in the mirror. Please don't mind the lumpiness; I was wearing a hoodie earlier in the day and it left the lump going across!
Quiche4-1.jpg

This is the dilemma. I am cutting it again, no question about it. I intend on doing it as often as I can in my lifetime or at least 5 times in total. It's just a matter of when. I don't want it to be short in Florida because I need to be able to put it up and get it off my neck. This picture is when my hair started growing out, so I was able to put half of it up, but the bottom part was annoying when it was hot out.

quiche91-1.jpg

I also think that really short hair makes me look much younger than I am (as does really long, one-length hair, which is what it is now other than grown out bangs). This is a pic of me and Weird only 2 years ago at Liberty Science Center in NJ. We do NOT look like our ages!

quiche7.jpg

Of course, I don't want to deal with washing my long hair in hard water. It gets so knotty, and it really is a pain to dry. I could easily braid it the night before and leave it wavy the next day, or I could just pull it back in a ponytail. It just would be easier to manage if it's shorter.

There's also the dilemma of where to send it. I recently found out that Pantene has a hair donation thing set up as well, and only 8 inches is required. If I cut it before WDW, I'd do that so my hair would still be long enough. Pantene teams up with the American Cancer Society to make wigs for cancer patients. On the other hand, Locks of Love is specifically for kids under the age of 21 for anyone who has long-term medical hair loss (mainly alopecia). They require 10 inches.

I know it's not that big of an issue, but it's just something I have to think about for the next 2 months before we leave. At the moment, I'm leaning towards waiting until after Florida because then I'd be more willing to cut off more of the length, and that really is the point in doing it.

Anyway, I kind of just wrote this out to think to myself. But since I am posting it, any comments or suggestions?

I always thought you looked so cute in that first picture! Of course I couldn't tell you at the time because we weren't together at the time ;)

I'm in favor of getting it cut just because I know it's for a great cause and I know how cute you look with shorter hair! :D

Sounds like waiting until after Florida would be what you'd be happier with when it's all said & done. You will be able to pull your hair up in the warm afternoon and you will still be able to donate 10 in. to Locks of Love when you return. My hair never does right on vacation, either, but at least you wouldn't have to be dealing with a new length and style in the hard water.

Wow, your hair grows fast!

P.S. -- I think Weird's reply just above is so sweet...you guys are too cute! :goodvibes

Hehe, you're such a silly.

Well, I am going to get it cut, so I think you're saying to get it cut before. But but but ... I don't know. Haha, I know you like it when I have short hair, but I don't. I am leaning towards waiting until after the trip though. It'll be short then!

Yeah, that's a good point. If my hair is shorter, I will have to deal with styling it or attempting to get it to lie flat instead of pointing every which way. It'll be easier just dealing with what I have in terms of drying and styling it, even though it'll be a pain washing it.

My hair does grow pretty quickly. I guess that's really why I can donate and plan to donate more often than most. It doesn't take as long to grow out, so I can just cut it knowing I'll have really long hair again within 1.5 years or so.

Hehe, I'd call Weird my sweetheart, but we don't use that word. He's a silly ol' Weird though :lovestruc

I agree, your hair does look cute when it's short! But I totally hear ya on wanting to be able to pull it back. I kind of freaked out when I got my hair cut and when I pulled it back it was so short! :scared1:

Thanks, Sarah! I agree; it's such an adjustment to get a haircut for girls! When Weird gets a cut, it looks different, but there's no issue in terms of styling. Less hair means less fluff. Less hair for us means a new adjustment!

Trip Journal

It's SATURDAY! You don't know how absolutely thrilled I am about it, haha. The students are probably very aware that vacation is coming up, so they're extra ... um, ditzy. Haha. I'll teach something and have to explain it literally 6 times before some students get it. And it's not that it's a difficult concept; they were just dazing the first 3 times! I always ask, "Am I speaking English?!?" Thankfully, I do have a handful of attentive students in each class and a para in one, so I know I'm not going crazy. I am teaching the material; they're just not receiving it. But boy, it gets frustrating, and it makes me doubt my teaching ability when there are a few students who don't get it.

Anyway, what would be extremely relaxing today ... writing an installment for my PTR! I have been up since 5:55am, so I'll probably need a nap later. I can't seem to sleep in anymore on Saturdays. I have a ton of paperwork and lessons to work on (especially now that the school is starting a literacy program, I need to have those plans done earlier), but Disney cheers me up!

This is similar to Bridora's latest installment about her trip journal! I didn't have a chance to write mine yet, but now seems like the perfect time.

Unlike past trips, I know that this time, I really wanted to have a trip journal. I have a fairly good memory, and last trip in 2008, I actually wrote about most of the day on the laptop when we got back to the condo. We never stayed late, so I had time to do that. I had many of the installments done for the TR before we even left Florida. This time, of course, will be different because I want to go as early as we can and stay as late as we can. Plus, with DBF going, I won't have spare time to just sit and write! We'll be having so much fun instead!!! So trip journal is a must.

This was the one I originally intended on using. I love that it's covered all around so that it'd be harder for the pages to get ruined. Plus, the outside is kind of like plastic so I don't have to worry about it getting dirty because it can be wiped down.
A101.jpg

It was given to me years ago from my cousin's girlfriend because she knew I really wanted a small journal to carry around in my bag. I didn't use it yet because my Secret Santa that year in our Sunday School group got me a small black journal too, and that's the one I use. Hehe, DBF was actually my Secret Santa that year, and that's one small moment of interaction that we had before we became friends, hehe.

This is the inside of the journal. I already wrote one page of it thinking I'd use it as the trip journal.
A103.jpg

There are lines inside so that makes me happy. I wrote that list that you see (pictures of the fake scrapbook pages for comic us; I posted them pages back) because Weird and I want to take real pictures in some of those spots! But I was very particular about writing, and it had to be extremely neat. I know that if I quickly want to jot something down in the book, I may not have time to stop and neatly write it on the lines. And if it's not neat, I think I'm going to flip. Haha. There are still traces of the perfectionist deep inside me even though it's taken me a while to overcome most of it.

Well, I decided to head back to Michael's and get a Disney notepad instead! Michael's has this awesome $1 section of Disney things. Recently, I bought pens and pencils with Toy Story, Cars, the Princesses, and Tinkerbell on them for my students. There were about 5 or 6 per pack, so I only spent a little over $10. I knew they had notepads, so I eagerly headed back there last week.

When I saw the princesses one, I knew I didn't want it because the dresses were all done up with extra jewels and whatnot. They looked really gaudy so I decided against it. Then I was left with the Fairies and Cars. DBF is in love with Cars if you haven't already picked up on that, so I was going to get that since it was a trip with him! However, I still liked looking at the Fairies one because they all look so pretty on the cover! I don't even know all their names, but I keep seeing the pictures in TRs when people go for the character meet and greets, so it feels as if I know them!

So that's the one I chose to get! I am a girl, so it only makes sense that I'd want this one, hehe.
A099.jpg

The only bad thing about it is that when I opened it in the car, I saw that it was unlined paper. As much as the blue journal lines would stress me out because I'd have to write neatly, not having lines is also not that fun for me. But then I told myself that it'd be easier to deal with it because then I'd really just scribble down notes instead of taking away precious WDW time!

I do like that the picture of the Fairies is on the inside too on each sheet of paper! I didn't expect that from a $1 notebook.
A100.jpg

Hopefully, this notebook will work out well for me. As long as I remember that it's just to jot down random things, it'll be fine. I'm excited to start writing though! At the moment, I've been keeping it next to my bed because I like seeing it there as a reminder every night before I sleep and every morning when I wake up!

I love the little fairies notebook! That $1 section at Michael's is awesome. I'm going to have to go there again soon to see what they have!

I like your fairies notebook! I wish we had a Michael's closer to home. I love going there and in Hobby Lobby! :goodvibes

I also like the idea of unlined paper. I can see where that would really come in handy for just jotting down something quickly. No lines = No neatness stress! :cool1:

I hope the rest of your weekend is good. Do you watch the Super Bowl?

Cute notebooks!

I'm the same way about lined paper. It has to be so neat and perfect. My TR notebooks are usually unlined and are a mess :rotfl:

I think your hair is cute short! I definitely think you should wait until you get back to cut it, though. Then you won't have the issue of not being able to pull it back.

I love both your notebooks! I saw those fairy ones when we were at Michaels the other day. (FYI, Target had some Disney magnetic list pads/notebooks in their Dollar Spot awhile ago. I got some to write notes on at school! It makes me happy when I pull them out.)

I always like the idea of unlined paper, but it never seems to work for me in reality because I get too caught up in it not being neat. (And by the way, your writing is so neat and pretty!)

Are you guys going to Epcot? (I know I could look, but I'm being lazy!) If so, I have a huge favor to ask you!

I think I'd cut it...if it were me. But you are right you would have to worry about how to do it everyday. I would get it cut like right now...but my hair takes five million years to grow. Cause of the curls. They are so tight I don't notice even if they do grow.

But I think your hair looks super cute with it short! But you look very pretty with it long. So I guess it just depends on what you wanna do. Deal with not being able to keep it out of your face or having the option to put it up. Hrmmmmm :confused3

It's bad, but I want to go there and buy everything I think is cute even though I don't need it! And though each thing is only $1, it definitely can add up! I know I'd rather save money for souvenirs from WDW, so I think I'll stay away. Of course, I did promise my cousin that I'd get her one of the notebooks, so once I go back, I'm going to have to practice self-control!

Yeah, I'm hoping the unlined part works out well for me. It might because if I write general notes and then add something more specific later, I just add it in the empty space.

I know it's done and gone already, but no, I don't watch the Super Bowl. My plans for when Weird and I are married is to have all the Super Bowl party food (potato skins or fries, guacamole and salsa with chips, etc.) and snuggle with a blanket and watch The Office! I've never watched a football game in my life.

Cute notebooks!

I'm the same way about lined paper. It has to be so neat and perfect. My TR notebooks are usually unlined and are a mess :rotfl:

I think I can just keep reminding myself that the outside is so cute! It does make a difference to have it next to me at my computer table because every time I look at it, I get all excited! I look closely at the picture too. Beforehand, the blue notebook got me somewhat excited but just not in the same way.

I think your hair is cute short! I definitely think you should wait until you get back to cut it, though. Then you won't have the issue of not being able to pull it back.

Yeah, I think at this point I've decided to just keep it long. I can't deal with it getting all poufy because it's shorter.

I saw that Target had a few things a while ago but not much. They had these post-it type things with classic Mickey on it, but I didn't get it. In one of them, I think Minnie was slapping Mickey! I think Weird took a pic of it on his phone; I'll have to ask him.

And thanks! I'm very particular about things being neat. I used to rewrite my notes in college because I'd take them in class and write down so much so quickly that it'd be too messy for my liking. I spent hours in the library copying my notes over. I have, however, stopped being such a perfectionist though, which is a good thing because it really got to the point where it was interfering with my life.

Yup, we're going to Epcot! It is definitely in the plans, MK+Epcot+DHS. What's the huge favor? Ask away! :goodvibes

Thanks! I guess the short hair's okay; I just think I look so much younger, and sometimes I really don't want to look like I'm that much younger! Sometimes I blend in with my own students! I guess I should appreciate that fact though because when I'm older, it'll be better that I look younger!

I think I'm going to keep it long until after the trip. It'll be too much of a hassle dealing with a new cut while I'm there. I know the washing it will be annoying (especially if we go swimming, and I have to wash it twice!), but at least it's a hassle I'm used to!
