It's been a long time since I had to buy a washer!

Dang, this just breaks my budget entirely. We are on a cash only basis around here and my washer just crapped out permanently.

Went looking for a new washer, thinking yeah, I shouldn't have any problem getting one $350-400ish.

Where have I been that I didn't know prices were so high? LOL Sheesh...

I don't want a front loader and I don't need all the bells and whistles either but...BUT I saw the new type of top load washers that don't have an agitator and MAN would that be great!

Does anyone here have one? I could use a review or two on this kind of washer.
Thanks!!

I worked for Sears when they first came out and they received rave reviews from both consumer magazines and paying customers.

Something else you may want to consider is Fisher Paykel - they make good machines - are budget friendly and have a few of the bells and whistles - without breaking the bank. Lowes has them.

Also - you may want to take a look and see if there are any outlet stores within a couple hours of you - I travel to Baltimore frequently and there are two Sears outlet stores in that area and I go in to browse when I am free in the evenings and they have some INCREDIBLE deals on scratch and dent appliances - even the REALLY high end ones!

:goodvibes

Good luck!

I second the idea for the scratch & dent section. Sometimes the area isn't even viewable.

We bought a top of the line GE range/oven for about 25% retail, because the oven drawer had a dent in the bottom, inside where you can't even see it.

If you only want to spend a little until you save up for what you truly want, check craigslist. I bought a top loader two years ago for $70, works & looks great.

Then you can turn around and sell it when you get the new machine.

ETA: are you sure your washer is dead? I thought mine was and it just needed a new latch on top, $8 and I fixed it myself. If that latch isn't connecting, the machine will appear to be dead. Sometimes there is a random thing stuck in a tube somewhere...my friend had an underwire from bra get caught up in the filter.

Scratch and dent! Great idea.....I asked today if there were any on clearance and both places said no. Do ya figure I have to ask about scratch and dent or is that the same thing as clearance? LOL

We love our Fisher and Paykel agitatorless top loader! I love that I can do a high effciency load OR a traditional water level load. A coworker also bought one at the same time we did and likes hers very much too. I wouldn't call them a budget brand, though. We did buy ours from an 'outlet' of a local appliance chain. I think that's where you get the best bargains.

I have the high efficiency top loader -- The maytag Bravos. I really like it better the the front loader we had previously. I can fit tons of stuff into it and everything comes out clean. You can get the washers at Home Depot, Sears, etc for $500 & up depending on the model.

I wash a ton of very dirty miners work clothes....after a bit of research I don't think the high efficiency one will do the job I need it to do.

I'm still reeling from knowing I won't be paying a measly amount for a washer. LOL I want cheap cheap cheap!

That's the nice thing about the Fisher and Paykel (and maybe other top loading HE washers?). You can do EITHER a traditional load OR a HE load, so you'd have the flexibility to do HE on the things that you could.

My mom bought a GE washer a few months ago that has no agitator...I think the name is profile? Anyway it is AWSOME, fits a ton of clothes, uses very little water (but everything still gets clean), plus it has an auto sensor so you don't have to change the load size.

Hear in St. Louis Sears has its own Scratch and Dent Store at the local Outlet Mall! The prices are usually at least 20% cheaper than at the main Department store! I saved $200 on a side by side Frig. buying it there!
