Hi Everyone!

I've been lurking these boards for a while, and I finally decided to do my own PTR for our trip... Mostly because with all the new FP+ changes Id love to get more opinions and tips on what I may want to watch out for having never been to Disney of any sort before.

So to introduce us... (without pictures since i havent posted enough yet :P)

First off theres me, Im 31 and mom of 2 girls. Im definitely the official planner for this trip... Ive been working on touring plans, dining options and pretty well anything else you can think of for about 6 months hardcore now. Im sure some of you (hopefully) can understand when I say ive easily spent over 100 hours on Disney reading and plans.... My oldest says im obsessed but I prefer to think of myself as well organized :cool1:

My husband is 37 and is our girls stepdad however we dont usually bother with the term... hes as much their dad to them as their biological one is. Hes been around for 4+ years and we've been married for almost a year and a half. He's big into thrill rides and is really looking forward to the crazier stuff (<.<) with his ride partner who is...

Our oldest daughter is 12 and she is a true pre-teen.... she more secretly loves disney, however she has always always wanted to take this trip and shes fond of telling us that i promised her we would go when she was 12 (it accidently worked out that way... i actually forgot that promise since i made it when she was like 4 :P ) Shes the other thrill ride lover in the family and her and the husband make a good pair.

Finally for our family theres our 8yr old daughter. Shes easily the most excited (although its pretty close behind for the rest of us) and tells me every day how many days are left until we leave for Disney :) (Its 23 today lol)

Also travelling with us is My mom and dad who are in their 50's, my sister who is disabled and in a wheelchair, and my 79 yr old grandmother.... Makes for a few more challenges but we are thrilled they are joining us. None of us have been to Disney before :)

So this is intended to be a once in a lifetime trip for us... Mostly due to distance. We live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and its quite a ways (about 3500 miles) to sunny Florida for us. We are driving down over the course of about 3 days for us and 5 for my parents in 2 vehicles for quite a few reasons... a huge one for us was not being able to justify spending about 6000$ between airfare and renting a car.... kinda ridiculous compared to less than 1500$ to drive including hotels *shrug* plus we like sightseeing:thumbsup2

So thats us! Our grand trip begins on Valentines day and we arrive in Orlando on the 17th and hit the parks on the 18th.... Ill post my grand plan and the thoughts behind it in the next post... could use some advice on whether Im on the right track!

Hi There,
I'm "earning my ears" too, so I thought I'd show some support for a fellow newbie. I've been a lurker for a very long time and I even tried to write a PTR for our next trip. It has been sadly neglected but maybe I'll get back to it now that I'm DISing again.

That's all for now, the boards or my computer are painfully slow at this time.

So heres my plan... Everything is planned but not set in stone, I have contingencies for weather/tiredness/illness altho hopefully they arent too necessary... We have 10 days and plan to do most of what Orlando has to offer not just Disney, we have 4 day passes for Disney Parks (Park hopper + waterpark option), a 3 day one for Universal, and the busch gardens/seaworld passes. We are staying at a house that is less than 10 min from Disney. DH is military so we can only get our tickets when we arrive. times are just the hours the parks are open for my own knowledge

So heres the plan:

Feb 17 - Get settled in/get tickets

Feb 18 – Animal Kingdom 8am-8pm

Feb 19 – Universal Studios 9am-7pm

Feb 20 – Sea World 9am-7pm

Feb 21 – Epcot 9am-9pm Illuminations at 9pm

Feb 22 – Golfing (Boys)

Feb 23 – Islands of Adventure 9am-7pm - early park admission 8am

Feb 24 – Magic Kingdom 9am-11pm electrical parade 7 & 9 pm and wishes @ 8pm

Feb 25 – Hollywood Studios 9am-7pm fantasmic @ 7pm

Feb 26 – Busch Gardens 10am-6pm

Feb 27 – Typhoon Lagoon before heading home

Following along :)

Your plan looks good, I like that you didn't plan any Disney parks for Saturday. What are the girls going to do while the boys golf?

I have tons of experience with Disney and Universal so if you have any questions I am here for you :thumbsup2

So exciting, a first trip to Disney!

Congrats on your trip! It's going to be a blast! I'm another newbie as well! I am going to do my ptr in a few days....hoping u have a great trip!

Thanks Everyone for the welcome :) been a long time since I did any sort of message boards, its taking a bit to get reacquainted with how things work!

OhioStateBuckeye I think the girls are going to shop while the boys golf ;) but we have an extra day of universal we could use if they want, and the waterparks and more options. We thought a day "off" in the middle might be a good thing! Our family is pretty used to being on the go, and we are planning to hit the parks pretty hard so I dont want to burn anyone out just in case

So one of my biggest concerns right now is the Fast Pass + that has done away with the old fast passes. Im pretty familiar with both systems in my research but I made the fatal mistake of assuming that the old system would stay in place until after our trip.... yeah rule #1... never assume anything :)

So now we are staying offsite so we cant do any in advance passes. I had everything perfectly planned out including contigencies and what could be moved to when and expected ride times and now.... back to square 1? Im not sure how bad its going to be... Im not sure if anyone knows or if everything is really speculation at this point but I really need to figure out if the fast pass + are going to benefit us at all now.

Anyone have any plans? ideas? experiences? :confused3

I've heard that people staying off sight have to get there at RD to stand in the fast pass + lines to reserve their ride times for the day. I have also heard that those kiosks consistently have 30+ minutes to wait. So my suggestion is find out where the closest kiosk is to the main gate, get there at RD, and then head straight for the kiosk to book your rides :(

We were already planning to be there at RD so that part isnt a big change thankfully... how would i find out where the closest kiosk is? any ideas? Im wondering if one of us should head to the first ride with the kids and the other to the closest fast pass kiosk?

oh disney why did you have too change this just before my trip...lol :scared:

I wouldn't head to the first kiosk, that is probably where most people will go. If you head straight for a kiosk farther back in the park I bet you have shorter lines.

My strategy for MK would probably be to head for the kiosk near Frontierland, if there is a short/empty line go ahead and do that.

Then you can get right in line for Big Thunder and Splash. This strategy worked best for me because it knocks out two big headliners before most people in the park head back there.

I would FP+ Peter Pan, Space and Enchanted Tales with Belle (if that is a must do).

It sounds like AK isn't really a big problem and it is less busy. If you want multiple rides on EE I would arrive at rope drop, usually you can walk right onto EE 2 or 3 times before the line builds at all.

DHS and Epcot are a bit trickier. Not sure what your priorities are there.

Josh from easywdw has a really good page up about FP+ in the MK:

towards the bottom he lists all the FP+ kiosk locations and which ones seem emptiest. He also gives a really good MK strategy.

Super Helpful!! Thank you! :)

So we've hit the teens the last couple of days! Today is 17 days to Disney!
To say we are excited is the understatement of the year.... Not sure if I ever said but we've been planning this trip since before my husband and I got married.. So its closing in on a year and a half for sure... its been over a year since we booked the house! It went by really quickly up until we hit about 30 days to go... and oh my goodness is it ever dragging along now!!!!

With that said... Ive spent so much time planning and im still convinced I am not at all ready ;)

Bags are packed, we're ready to go..... :)
We will be on the road in about 5 hours! :drive: This is probably the slowest workday ever O.o
Heres hoping we have a good (but long) drive! Time to leave all the snow and cold behind! :cool1::beach:

Illl probably update while we are in Orlando :D Happy Valentines Day Everyone! This is the best Valentines present EVER!!!!!pixiedust:
