It's ALL About the Food (We go to WDW to eat and drink!!) ~ October 2009 TR

I'm trying the dining plan out this time- because of free dining which I upgraded, so we'll see what I do next time. I figured for $32 bucks a day and 3 meals it's worth it. I already don't think I'll be doing it again though. Without the free part I wouldn't get it at all.

I agree, Laura! If we had free dining I would have upgraded to Deluxe in a heart beat. But no free dining for us with a DVC reservation!

Just popping in to say hi! We really liked the dining plan the two times we got it--it was great for all those character meals that dd is into, but I did feel like we were always too full to enjoy the F&W booths or try out places like Beaches and Cream for ice cream. So this time no ddp and we'll see what our cost ends up being. Sometimes you just want a big margarita and some chips for dinner..:rotfl2: (We are responsible parents, I promise! :thumbsup2)

Hi, Jamie! :wave2: We actually did the DDP more often (in its many forms over the years) when our kids were younger. We ate at Cape May for their character breakfast in 2007 with my 4 year old nephew that morning. Other than that, I can't remember the last time we had a character meal anywhere on purpose!

Now that I have managed to raise two foodies it doesn't usually do well for us when we travel as a unit either. There are too many signature dining places we have to go and too many appetizers we have to try. We have worked on DDP + TiW in conjunction with one another on previous trips too. It was better, but I think just TiW is the best way for us to go now. Let's hope I am right!

And I agree with your menu selection for some evenings... an adult beverage of choice and something salty to crunch on is sometimes all we need. And then there are those kiosks to get through. So much food (and drink)... so little time!

I have a friend who will be appalled at the following statement:

I have not started packing yet.

I have good reasons that she just won't understand. The weather in Orlando next month will be much as the weather we are having here right now. And I am still wearing my clothes on a daily basis. I don't have 30 pairs of shorts... :rolleyes1

I have been making a list and my carryon is always packed, so hopefully that will assuage any anguish my actions (or lack thereof) will cause her.

WHY DON'T YOU GO SHOPPING??? There is a TON of great stuff on clearance.

I only have 30 pairs of shorts because I shop. A lot. Shopping is good for our economy, you know.

And packing is good for my blood pressure.

I SUPPOSE since your carry-on is finished and you have a list I will let it slide. :sad2: Really, you packing slackers are going to be the death of me.

I need to start a PTR for my December trips. I decided to make only one since the first trip is only 48 hours long and there is no planning on my part involved in that one.

I cannot, for the life of me, come up with a catchy title. I can wait until older DD, who is a writer, comes back from her camping trip in ME tomorrow. Or until younger DD, the quick-witted one, gets home from work.

Or, I could ask my DH (the one who came up with my user name/email address) and watch him

I'm probably going twice next year. I think I'm only going to be going deluxe if I go during free dining, since then I think it's worth it. Not so much worth it for $70 a night when I'll have TIW.

we never pack until the night before we leave ... :rotfl2:

although this year, since I want to ship some things down for the DISmeet I am a little more organzied than usual.

:wave2: Hi, Lindsay! Just think of all the trips you have yet to plan with your little one! Hope he is staying put for the moment and you are not feeling too badly.

I will certainly quaff a few in your honor. Maybe in a couple of years we can do another Party for the Senses together! Do you think we could persuade myBob and Jonathan will stay in the room with the baby??? :rotfl2:

Hey - I'm game to try if you are! :thumbsup2 I really like the themes they're doing now. Gosh knows what the cost will be a few more years down the line, though. :scared1:

You have my full permission to quaff away! I can only imagine at this point how many people have been pleasantly buzzed in my honor over the last 9 months! :rotfl:

I only know one person that does.....:rolleyes1

I never pack too far in advance, either - I don't have enough clothes, let alone undergarments! I'm pretty proud of myself that I at least have my hospital bag packed, although there will still have to be a few things that can't go in until the last minute!

I will make room for Beaches and Cream. I love them and havent been in years. I read last week in one of Bendy's old trip reports that they have a peanut butter/chocolate sundae:lovestruc. I have to get that in my belly.

:scared1: I am way over organized on the packing front. I'm checking out stores this weekend for sales, but I'm pretty much set in what I'm going to pack. I may have taken digital photographs of outfits for each day.:rolleyes1 This is totally my nature vs. nurture thing- wherein I absorbed my Stepdad's OCD tendencies somehow. My mother just throws everything she owns into 5 suitcases the day before a trip and goes. My Stepdad I and prepare only carrry ones and have it set at least a month before hand. I swear I couldn't be more like him- even if I had 1/2 of his DNA.:rotfl:

I won't tell Elizabeth that!

I have penciled you in for October 2011. ;)

It is the No Way Jose' and it is spectacular! :cloud9:

Elin, that moscato is averaging between $12-$14 per bottle depending on who has it.

Let me know if you want some and I'll try to stop at Provisions next week - they're only about 10 minutes from my office.

We decided to cancel our DDP for this trip. Since I had lots of "extra time" on my hands this week I did some cost analysis and confirmed that sticking with our Tables in Wonderland (TiW) discount would be the best way for us to go. We like to share an appetizer and a dessert. We drink at every meal we possibly can. 20% off everything is a good deal. So, that is how we will go!

That's how it is for us as well. However, when I'm booking a trip; I generally encourage people to get the DDP. Most of the time they don't have or need an AP to get the TIW. Without the TIW, the DDP is a no brainer.

That is definitely a no brainer! I sit down meal for $32 is pretty good for Disney, 3 is :woohoo:

Hi, Chelle. I agree that the DDP is a good deal for people without TiW. That is when we used it most. The amount of food you can get in a day for the cost of the DDP is almost always greater than the cost.

And, please don't encourage Elizabeth's scolding when it is concerning packing. She is a tyrant!!

I won't tell Elizabeth that!

Hospital bags are exempt from the packing rules, I think. I know I only used one nightgown and a toothbrush out of my bag when DS was born. You can't get your own nightgown on until they take the stupid IV out anyway. Hospital bags are overrated.

Elin, I am not a tyrant. I simply have your best interests at heart. You don't want to get to WDW and discover you are missing something important, do you? Proper packing is key! ;)

I start back to teaching tomorrow afternoon and I don't want to. It is the first time in a long time I have felt that way. I love teaching, love the kids I work with, like my job immensely. I just don't want to go back to my normal life. ;) I have had two weeks off and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. {{sigh}}

OK ... done feeling sorry for my self. This is a great pick-me-up to see:

That means I only have 25 more days and then I'll be coming home from DW :sad2: We'll be there from 9/25 - 10/2
Oh well I'll have all of the friendies reports to look forward to:yay:

:wave2: Hi, Cathy! Well, you can do your report, then I'll do mine. And then all the friendies will pile on with theirs! It would be fun to be with them. Maybe in 2011?
