It's a very strange thing: Clothes shopping for clothes that are too small!

So I've been doing South Beach for 7 weeks now and I've lost over 15 pounds, and I'm down about a size and a half. I'm feeling great...

However, yesterday I realized that by the time our cruise rolls around this fall (14 weeks away), I'm hoping to have lost at least another 10 pounds. I feel that 10 pounds in 14 weeks is a very realistic goal. I also realized that the shorts and capris and summer shirts that I'm wearing NOW will be way too big on me by then, I'm already swimming in them now! So what did I do??? I went clothes shopping today to buy shorts and capris that are too small, so they'll fit me in 14 weeks.

I actually had a difficult time finding anything. The first batch of capris and shorts that I brought into the fitting room was all too big (yay!), but then the second batch was just right; I was able to put them on and zip and button them, but they were very snug. I think they'll be just right by the time I cruise. But I was only able to find 3 pairs of capris, NO shorts :( All of the summer clothes are basically gone by now :(

Anyway...I just thought I'd share my experience today with some people who might understand, and get a chuckle out of it :)

Hey Terry-

Just a thought but what about eBay? Since you need some things for your cruise and are planning on losing more then why not bargain shop? If you know what size the things you just bought are, look for stuff that is similar in size. This is what I am doing for clothes right now as I am not planning on staying at this size for ever (or too long if I can help it) and ebay seems to work out well. I just got 4 pairs of shorts for $11.20. If I wear them for 2 months, I have gotten my moneys worth IMO.

Also try online at the dept stores like JCP etc. They usually have quite a bit in clearance this time of year and you can always return it to a store if need be.

Good luck!!!

Fantastic news and you are so smart in your thinking. Yes, you WILL fit into them comfortably by cruise time.

Good idea about eBay and shopping online too.

I love this place...always good ideas and questions here on WISH.

I am also going on a short vacation at the end of October. Most of the stores are having clearance on their summer things, now. Land's End also had some nice things on clearance, which I purchased on line, which saved the embarrassment of buying something in person which obviously won't fit me now (but probably will in two months).

My problem is that I am not quite sure what size I will be wearing then. I am surprised now that 10 fits. I am hoping to lose another 35-40 lbs to reach my 115-120 goal, but, doubt I will be there in October. But, last time I weighed 115-120, size 6 fit. I estimate that I will be about 130-135 by then, if I continue as I have been. So, I have purchased about 2-3 outfits each in size 6 and 8 that would be appropriate for October. I don't want a bunch of summer stuff that will be too big for me next summer.

On the other hand, when my son was young, I bought clothing for him on Ebay once. Once, and I swore I would never do so again. The clothes were sold as "new", and they were just nasty. The whole lot smelled bad. One shirt had cigaret burn holes along the cuff. Another shirt was stained, and a sweater also was basically unusuable due to wear. Personally, I would have a problem donating things like that to Goodwill, let alone selling them as "new" on Ebay. This are things that I wouldn't have paid 50 cents for at a garage sale, and I paid more than that for shipping. I think the person who sold them must have bought them at Goodwill, then turned around and sold them on Ebay, because they had a lot of stuff in a lot of different sizes. No thanks. I'll either buy things in person (if used), or buy on clearance from a reputable retailer by mail.
