Has anyone ever read the entries for the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction contest, otherwise known as "It was a dark & stormy night" contest? Some of them are really hilarious.
There's a website with winners and other entries from this year and the past several years. Some of you may recognize the phrase "It was a dark & stormy night" from the Peanuts comics. It was the first sentence of an actual book & now every year anyone can send in their bad opening sentences to this contest.

Here are the 4 entries I sent in:
As we lay in each others' arms in the open green meadow under a raging thunderstorm, I didn't know if her cries were those of ecstasy from the physicalness that we were sharing or from the lightening that just hit her.
(Going for the 40's detective theme here)
The rain fell hard against my window when I heard a tap on my office door and I knew it was going to be a long night cause I kept hearing more taps on my door and my door opens to a hallway and not to the outside and since no one was at my door that meant there was a leak in the roof and since I own the building I knew I'd be up all night trying to plug the hole and mop up the floor so that the linoleum doesn't get too warped.
Lance whispered in my ear, breathlessly, (as he has asthma) that he will never leave me, that he will always be by my side no matter what happens, that no one will ever come between us, never, ever, that we share something special and I believe him, I must, he is my Siamese twin brother.
As Glinda finally regained consciousness, she realized that she should have taken those sparkly red shoes for herself and not let that innocent looking pigtailed girl in the blue gingham dress get close enough to swipe her silver wand.
