It pays to save your receipts...

I have found with Target that it depends on the CS person you get how much they choose to do for you. Also if something is not taped shut or looks like it was opened and retaped always open it and look at the item. I have gotten used items put back in the box. Once it was a humidifier that was all moldy and actually had several cigarette burns on top of it.

apparently people return used fixtures to Home Depot all the time!! we bought one, opened it only to find someone's OLD USED NASTY fixture. I was Livid!!! I figured the store was going to be like "sure! wink wink!! Someone stuck their nasty cruddy fixture in here for you to buy!" But when I went in, the clerks were like it happens WAY MORE than it should! You're not the first... I was appalled that people could stoop so low! they said contractors will even return cases of those expesive burned out lightbulbs that they traded out with the new fresh ones! LOW!!!!

This must be a change in policy for Target. Several years ago I bought a computer desk there and about 10-14 days later it went on sale. I hadn't even opened it yet and had the receipt but they wouldn't give me a price adjustment. In fact they said that I would have to return the item and then go get another one from the display and re-buy it. The thing weighed a ton and I had left it in the car. I asked to speak to the manager and he wouldn't help either so I decided that I didn't want it and returned it. I was surprised that they were willing to lose the sale.

this is not a new policy, I worked at Target for 6 years and during that time it was 14 days, if something went on sale within 14 days and you brought your receipt you could get an adjustment. This did not (and does not) apply to clearance merchandise.

Same thing happened to me. I bought an item and a week later it went on sale. I took it back for a price adjustment. I had the receipt. They refused. My only option was to return it and go get another off the shelf and purchase it.

In my case there were no more on the shelf. They refused to sell me the one I had returned. I had to be reshelfed and that would take 2-3 days she said.

What a scam!!! I was so mad I returned it and they lost my sale.

it doesn't take 2-3 days, they will tell you that to discourage you doing the return-rebuy but returns are generally back on the floor by close of business the same day. Some items are put in the back to be restocked but if that's the case that is usually done by noon the following day.

OP I'm glad you had your receipt to get the adjustments!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone. I did not know that you could have a price adjustment on items that go on sale. I purchased a computer on Saturday, Sunday's ad had the exact computer for $50 less than I paid. Thanks to this thread I went to Staples today and asked for a price adjustment. They happily agreed. I only had to have my receipt with me.

Went to best buy today because I knew one of the items we bought was $100 cheaper, the girl checked and 1 other item was on sale too. DH also got a different camera I checked it while DD was trading in her DS games and it was $60 back for that. Got back over $270.00

I think every place does it otherwise you could just bring back whatever it is and buy a new one and they don't want people doing that so they price adjust. I remember last year getting back $30 at Old Navy when my winter coat went on sale and just this summer I got $15 back when my girls bathing suits went on sale a week after I bought them (O.N. again)

Most stores really do this? I seriously hate buying clothing and then seeing it come down in price a week later. But I figured I can't return the items since I've already pulled the tags off and have usually already worn the items by then.

You can really just bring receipt in for a price adjustment? I save EVERY receipt in a folder going years back, lol.

Many stores do, but it as a previous poster pointed out, clearance sales don't count. It is the advertised sales they will price match, not something they have marked down on the ticket to get rid of it.

I am the office manager for our kmart. If your items go on sale within 7 days of your purchase we will happily give you a price adjustment. The register will not allow anything over that. We can look up your purchase from any kmart providing you have used your shop your way rewards card, credit or debit card or used a check. If you paid by cash, we can only find your transaction from our store. If you want a price adjustment that has been over the 7 days you would have to return your item and purchase a new one. It can't be returned to you. There is a process that has to be followed with all returns. It would make it back to the shelf that evening some time

All in all, I don't think it's a bad policy. We all work hard for our money and we will do whatever we can to help you save your money so you spend more money at our store. Which benefits us cause the more money spent in our store, means more for salary dollars etc etc.

:woohoo:
