My daughter and I will be visiting Seattle during the month of June for four nights. Between visiting ROTC cadets at Fort Lewis where they will be for camp, we will be sightseeing. I am so excited as I hear the area is beautiful especially the weather! I'm hoping we will be able to eat at the restaurant on top of the Seattle Space Needle to include visiting Pike Place Market. I get lost easily (we will be renting a car) so hopefully everything is close to each other. We're staying at Holiday Inn Express on Hosmer Street, Tacoma, which I'm told is close to a mall and movie theater. I found something called 'Ducks' on the internet that you can ride to tour Seattle - Does anyone know about these? Is the Holiday Inn in a safe area?

Thanks!

Sounds like a nice truip, Jodi. Hope you both have a nice time. Enjoy!! Will you be flying there??

We loved Seattle and stayed at a Holiday Inn within walking distance of the space needle in fact we had a view of it from our window. We ate at the restaurant there at the needle as well and enjoyed it. Also if you like sea food eat at Ivar's. Most people can tell you how to get there. Be sure and see the flying fish at Pike street market. We took the ferry over to Victoria and spent the night there and toured the gardens and had high tea at the Empress. I want to go back because it was so nice a pretty. We also drove through the cascade mountains and did the northern loop. Of course with you just having a few days you can't get everything in and there is so much to do in the area. Have fun. If you have any questions just ask.

Dan -

As I get lost so easily, I would be crazy to drive such a distance! We got bumped from our March WDW trip so my daughter's ticket is free and the government is paying for mine!

Jodi,
I grew up in Tacoma and live a few miles away in Gig Harbor. Where you are staying is safe but dont expect it to be a "fancy hotel area". It is right off I-5 and is convenient to Fort Lewis. You will be close to the Tacoma Mall and yes there are cinemas close by. The drive to Seattle is about 35 minutes in clear traffic. The commute hours will change that dramatically. The drive to and from Seattle could easily be double that during commute hours. There is much to see in Seattle and in Tacoma and outlying ares. My small fishing town of Gig Harbor is a fun way to spend the aftenoon walking along the harbor and checking out the shops and resaurants. The Narrows bridge is a site to see. Have you ever heard of "Galloping Gertie"? The original bridge collapsed not long after opening in about 1940. It swayed when the wind blew thus the name. They are currently building a second bridge alongside the existing one to aliviate traffic.

Oh, well ,you can't beat that, Jodi. Nice. Again, enjoy.

sigafoos, those films of Galloping Gertie from years ago are such a classic. Amazing footage.
