It All Started With (An Eloborate Plot to See) A Mouse: A Feb 2014 PTR! (UD: 03/02!)

Thanks!

I hope it does! I know my time is better than what I submitted, so I'm still going to end up passing people (I hope, lol!). How do the corrals work, by the way? One 10k I did, they had waves, and each wave started 10 mins after the previous. Do they do that for Disney, and if so, does that mean that the 3 1/2 hour time limit doesn't actually start until after the last corral is started?

I got the advent calender at Meijer! We saw it a couple weeks ago (begining of Nov, I think) and I felt kinda silly getting it that early, but I didn't think I'd find it again if I didn't.

There were corrals A-L for our race. They released about every 2-3 minutes- each with fireworks.... The timer starts with the last corral. I never saw the pacer people (I was in G)... My cousin who didn't train kept them company, literally. She was in K.

You will pass lots of people. And people will pass you. It's strange how that goes- I passed plenty of people in C,D,E corrals. I caught up with my Sister in Law at one point who was in E. That sparked her competitive side and she took off quick like after that- no way I was beating her (although I did in the end- with overall time- but she stopped for a few more pics than I did).

I

Love the advent calendar and the days til Disney countdown board! what a cute idea to add a hidden mickey!

that's cute that stormy uses no for yes! our youngest got stuff mixed up for the longest time--down for up, yes for no, and she still sometimes calls white black and black white.

so i'm on the dis feeling awful--i'm not feeling great...sinus infection, I think. I feel asleep about 45 minutes after we got home last night and I slept until about 9 am. no big deal.....except the ugly sweater run started at 7 this morning. I was sort of thinking about skipping it since I wasn't feeling great and we had some ice and snow on Thursday night/Friday morning, but when I just plain overslept and missed it....now I feel guilty and disappointed in myself. and, Hannah was bummed because she wanted to do the kids reindeer shuffle and wear the ugly reindeer antlers I had gotten for us. so, add mommy guilt to that. what a crummy day!

Love the countdown calendar and the advent calendar. Love love love the hidden Mickey. How clever!

Correct. The time limit starts after the LAST person has crossed the starting line. The corrals are going to be a bit different this year, but from what we know, probably around 16 corrals. The beginning ones they release every 2 minutes, then 3, then down to about 5 between. Not sure how they decide this timing yet, but that's how it looks to be. You'll be great with time! :thumbsup2

As for not liking the 70s at Pop...a couple reasons. It feels in the middle of everything and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lake. I NEED to see it, and when I was in the 70s, I couldn't. AND, I really don't care for the 1970s in general. :p I'm an 80s girl, so 70s stuff just seems OLD to me. :lmao:

Awesome! Glad to not be in the last corral then (I hope, lol!), so it'll be nice to have that small extra cushion (again, hopefully won't even need to worry. But I do. :rotfl: ) Can't wait to see what corral I'm in, haha. So far away!

Cool. =D I think we'll probably ask for the 50s, then! I need to see the lake too, hubby and I are both huge water babies, and I'd like a view of the fireworks too.

So did you see that the new Disney New Balance shoes are going to have Cindy on them? <3

I'm hoping to find and pass the 2:30 pacer, that's my goal going into this, lol!

My favorite part about races are the people watching, and I'm expecting it to be fantastic for Disney. =D My first 5k, a lady and myself kept passing each other (her shirt said "Nothing to it but to do it", which made me giggle, cuz it was a Nike shirt, but I kept hearing it in Floyd's voice, from The Muppet Movie) and with around .3 miles to go, she caught up to me and went "We're gonna finish this out together, you and me!" It was pretty awesome. =D Especially since I was dead tired by that point.

Love the advent calendar and the days til Disney countdown board! what a cute idea to add a hidden mickey!

Icky! My bff in college always got sinus infections and she was was pretty miserable during them. I'm always scared of oversleeping, and then I end up having nightmares about it and wake up every hour. >< It's ok! There'll be more runs, I bet Hanna can find another awesome kids run too. =D I always go to www.runmichigan.com for races in my area, does your state have something similar?

Love the countdown calendar and the advent calendar. Love love love the hidden Mickey. How clever!
Thank you! I've got it hanging right next to all our DVDs. It's fun to glance over at it and see the number go down, yaaaay!

Update and Holiday-y Photo dump, hehe!

First is the update.

It's less an update and more of an achievement.

I ran my 8 mile run today (it wasn't due until the weekend, but I was feeling in a mindset to do it, and Project Runway was on, so I figured I'd watch it at the gym, since we cancelled our cable last month, and do my long run). I got about 30 mins in (what would have been today's normal run) and had a serious internal debate on just stopping there and doing the rest of the PR episode on the bike, and coming back on the weekend for my "real" 8 mile run. I pushed through, though and got to 3 miles, walked a mile, ran a mile and by that point, the machine kicked me off! Apparently the machines are programed to cool down at 60 mins. So I reached 5.03 miles at 65 minutes. I ate my gel (Cherry Lime GU, some sort of high energy one), and my stomcah had an immediate dislike of me. I went to the bathroom for a quick break, and to refill my water bottle and again had to talk myself back to running. 5 miles is good, right? That's 1 mile more than my long run last weekend, it's cool! But no! The long run is 8 miles this week (Following Jeff Galloway program) and if I stopped now, I still needed to do it this weekend, and I was already 5 miles in, that's over halfway! So I got back on the treadmill. PR was over and I turned on my playlist and managed to get lost in my music, when I checked I was at 20 minutes! Briefly, I felt discouraged, I still had 20 minutes to go, dangit! But wait, silly head (yes, these are the things that go on in my head during a run), you just did 65 minutes, and now, amazingly, I just did 20 minutes without even noticing. I got to 2 miles (about 26 minutes) and walked for .5 miles, and finished out the last .5 miles (putting my total at 8.04miles) running. My pace worked out to 12 mins 56 sec. Not my fastest, but it seems to be my average for longer runs (even 4 seconds off my average!)

On the drive home, I got to thinking. I felt really REALLY accomplished. I had done 6.2 miles a little over a month ago, and I felt good, but I didn't feel accomplished. I'm not sure why, really. I worked up to the 6 miles over the course of a month (I'd run a 5k, then added a mile each week, leading to my first 10k), and this was only 1.8 miles more than my previous longest run. But somehow, 8 miles sounds like...amazing to me. I can't figure out why, haha!

Now the Holiday picture dump!

Stormy's big accomplishment for the week. TWO binkies! Good lord...

Seeing Santa at the mall! He was...less than pleased. Our Santa was suuuper nice and understanding, though (which is how we got this decent shot!). He was trying his darndest to get Stormy to smile (last years Santa, the second Stormy frowned, he went "OOP. Back to Mom you go!" )

This was at our city's tree lighting ceremony. It was super cute, they had the farmers market open and running (we bought Stormy a little wooden toy for Christmas!) and Santa came in on the fire truck (what we're looking at in the picture) and they had a big community carol singing thing. After, we went to my favorite restaurant for a salad and soup. The second picture, Stormy was playing with Baloo, he'd hold out his finger, for Baloo to "bite" then pull it away at the last second. He thought it was hilarious.

IMG_0574_zps7d299ecf.jpg

We were buying our new ornament at the mall (Macy's sells frame ornaments every year, with the year, so we get one each year and put our Santa pic in it). Stormy was walking next to us, and decided he really wanted to sit and look down at the lower level. So he veeeeery carefully climbed up on the tiny ledge (with the glass in the way, obviously, lol!) and then sat down and pressed his face against the little forcefield. He definitely looked nervous doing it (and kept checking to make sure the glass was there), but the little daredevil did it anyway. Gonna have to keep like, 8 eyes on him at Disney!

IMG_0576_zpsa32eaa52.jpg

We decorated stockings at work! Naturally, I did the runDisney logo! I love how it turned out.

Last night was Food Truck Rally night. Every 2nd Wed of each month, food trucks in the area gather at the Farmers Market, and Baloo and I looooove going to them! Last night was extra special, because they also had a Christmas party going on, so, another crack at Santa! He was also excellent, and Stormy clapped excitedly, gave him a high five....annnnd clung to me like a little monkey when Santa tried to get him to come to him. Oh well! Next year for sure. Since he did so good, we bought him a homemade decorated sugar cookie. As you can see, it had red frosting....yeeeeeah....:rotfl:

IMG_0593_zps3dcf33c2.jpg

Last but not least! We finally got the tree up! I don't give Stormy enough credit, because I didn't think he'd really "get" what was going on, but the second he saw what Baloo and I were doing, he jumped right in and started putting ornaments on the tree! :woohoo: He still needed a tiny bit of help, since he couldn't figure out those silly little hooks, and just sort of set the ornament on a branch. :lmao: He's also been REALLY good about not messing with it, which I'm pretty shocked by. He only goes over to it when the lights are on. I guess some things are just sacred!

We are just past midnight here, so I believe that means we're at 69 days to go! 9 days to Fast Pass selection, yay!

Whooohooo!! Congrats on the 8 miles! I have 8 miles as well coming up. I'm actually due to do it today, but we have ice on the ground and are getting freezing rain today, so TM it is and I'll do my 8 on Monday outside when it warms up! I do the same thing, I think I'm going to stop and then once I get halfway, I tell myself I have gone this far and I'll have to do it again if I stop, so I might as well finish! ;)

LOVE the photo dump! Cute shots! I love that the Santa was nice and trying to get him to smile. I dislike all the pics this time of year with kids crying and scared on Santa's lap!

70 days for me today! OMG, it's getting so close!!!!!!!!!

8 MILES?!? that is awesome, girl! you're gonna be kicking that half marathons tushie!

love love love the picture of stormy with the two binks! our oldest was a binkie girl and did the same thing once she figured out she could. the boys I nanny thought it was hilarious and tried to get her to do it all the time. kids! :rotfl:

all the holiday pics are so cute! that's a great family picture with santa! when our youngest was about stormy's age, she wouldn't have anything to do with santa either. we tried to take her and our oldest, and maddie is just a blur in the picture because she wouldn't sit still anywhere near santa. I do get it though--he's big, sort of loud and covered with hair. plus, how confusing that we always tell them not to talk to strangers, then, not only do we say talk to this stranger, climb up and sit on his lap to boot! :rotfl2:

69 days?!? well, it's almost bedtime, so i'm calling it 68! woo hoo!!! :woohoo:

Thanks! It's been snowing here like crazy and it got super cold, and I've discovered I'm the biggest baby with cold, soooo. Treadmill for now. Blech

I try not to post any pics if he looks upset, lol! My friends and family all think he's the sweetest, happiest baby ever (not far from the truth, happily. But there are a couple upset pics I chose not to share...)

Haha, thanks, I hope so!

We thought he'd do better with Santa this year, because we when we went to Zoo Boo, he LOVED the (fake) Mickey/Minnie and Buzz/Woody costumed people they had there. Guess the big man with a beard is still too weird. Maybe he'll like princesses better. *crosses fingers*

Mini-Update!
It's day 60! Yaaaay! :dance3:
Get to make FP+ selections today. So, naturally, I did it at 12:01 this morning. :rotfl2: (I was still up, so I figured what the heck)
Our plan for FP was mostly just picking which ones we wanted to go on the most. Since Stormy will only be 21 months when we go, he can't go on a lot of the "big" rides, so we'll have to child swap for any height restricted ones we want. From the sounds of it, you don't wait in line together, one goes through the line, then the other gets to cut after the first comes out (Does anyone know if that's how it works? That's the most I could find on Child Swap). Assuming that's correct, we didn't wanna wait separetly for however long, so the big rides that we ABSOLUTELY have to do, we got a FP for, the rest, we'll probably skip this time around.
So our week looks like this:
Feb 20th - Fly in, 12-7pm is the Expo, so nothing besides that scheduled that day. Maybe go to Downtown Disney or wander AoA after the Expo.
Feb 21st - Epcot!
Lunch at Akershus 12:20
FP for Spaceship Earth 3:35-4:35, Turtle talk with Crush 5:15-6:15, and Soarin' 6:30 - 7:30
Feb 22nd - Animal Kingdom!
No dining reservations (We only have the quick service dining, and this is the day before my run, so I'll be eating lighter anyway)
FP for Finding Nemo the Musical 12:40-12:55 (why is this a 15 min window?), Dinosaur 2-3, Kiliminjaro Safari, 4-5
Feb 23rd - Magic Kingdom! (And my run!)
BOG Dinner (!!! I managed to snag a reservation!) 8:20
FP for Enchanted Tales with Belle 1-2, Peter Pan's Flight 2:15-3:15, and it's a small world 3:15-4:15
Feb 24th - Hollywood Studios!
No dining reservations
FP for Star Tours 3:30-4:30, Tower of Terror 5:20-6:20, and Fantasmic! 6:25-6:45
Feb 25th - 2nd day at Magic Kingdom!
No dining res
FP for Space Mountain 12:40-1:40, Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin 1:50-2:50, and Under the Sea - Journy of the Little Mermaid 3:25-4:25
Feb 26th - Check out/Fly home. Will probably do Downtown disney again, as our flight isn't until 7:30.

On the running front, I woke up cruddy this morning, and didn't end up doing my "long" run. Today's was only to be 4 miles though, so I'm not too upset, the sleeping in (I think) did me more good. I did try to do my "Magic Mile", but I needed to do it on a track to get the best measure possible, and our track was covered in slush. =( I did one circle (1/4 mile), and my shoes and feet were soaked, so I stopped. My time was 2:44:45, which would be just under 11min/mile, so I'm ok with that. I know if there was no slush, I woulda made at least a 10 min/mile, but I was terrified of slipping. Sad that I couldn't get my run in because it was so warm (I mean...as warm as it can get in Dec in MI!)

Twoboys, are you following the Galloway program? I'm trying to figure out exactly how I'm supposed to do the MM. The most I figured was "as fast as possible", lol! But in it, he says that you need to have a 12:15 MM by the end of the program to finish in 3:30, which doesn't really make sense to me.

When we went last time, that's how the parent swap worked. One person goes in, telling the cm you're doing rider swap and getting a little rider swap ticket. That person either uses a fast pass or waits in the regular line. When they come out, the second person gets the rider swap ticket from them and goes on through the fast pass line. With the new FP+ I'm not sure if it'll work the same, but I don't know why it would change.

You are one dedicated runner, out there in the slush! Way to go!

Your days sound fun. Have fun at the expo. I saw pics of some new running shoes for this year. they looked so cool!! Good idea getting the fast pass for Peter Pan. That line gets so crazy long!

Lol--I did the same thing when we could pick our fast passes. I was up at 11 and thought "hey--disney's on eastern time, wonder if I can do fast passes early?" And sure enough, I could! I was so excited! I must have spent a good hour on there picking stuff and changing things around. I wasn't sure I would like picking them so far out, but it actually made planning our park days easier. I guess we'll see if it was really helpful when we get there.

Hmm...Soooooo. I'm just thinking out loud hear, hypothetical and all...

If we each got FP+ to different child swap rides....would that work? :rotfl: Like, say he got one for Star Tours, and I got one for Rockin' Rollercoaster. And then when we were there, he goes to Star Tours, gets his Child Swap tix and goes through FP line, then brings the child swap tix to me, the point is not to wait in line, right? So would I technically -need- my own fast pass, if we're child swapping?

Ok, I know nothing about child swap, can't help you there! Also, I was going to ask YOU about the MM! :lmao: I'm not actually doing Galloway, I mixed some of his training with Higdon and made my own training plan but I thought the MM looked interesting and from what I have heard it is accurate? I thought it was going as fast as you can for a mile, but then the 1/4 track thing confused me. I need to look up more info on it.

Our paths are totally going to cross the night after the race!! :thumbsup2 We have dinner at 6:40 in the castle and FP's a little before and after dinner. We won't be arriving until around 4-5pm because we plan to stay until closing, MK is going to be open until 1am! I know with a little one you may not be doing this, but it's fun to think we'll be in the same park at the same time! :thumbsup2

I started using Galloway- got through halfway of his program . His magic mile confused the heck out of me & his voice started to annoy me- a lot. So I said my goodbyes to the boy...and made up my own plan using iSmoothRun (which I LOVE) :)

I do splits of 7/2 and it worked well for me. Enough time to 'get into a groove' and enough time to recover. I managed even with 7/2 splits to keep usually a 11:30 pace. And I am a slow runner. But that was better than doing straight running which kept me at a 12:30-12:45 pace.

That is a good question. I'm not sure, but you could try reserving your fast passes that way and see if it lets you have 2 fast passes for two different people at the same time. I did all ours for the family so I didn't even think about that.

My only other thought on that is you could end up doing a lot of running back and forth across the park. If that doesn't bother you, and it lets you reserve the FPs, then you're good.

So you got me wondering about the rider swap thing and I did some looking around on here. You can totally do that for your fast passes. So have baloo get FP to ride 1, he gets rider swap ticket, rides, comes out to wait with stormy and you go on. Then go to ride 2. You use your FP, get rider swap ticket, etc. People on here say it works. Good idea!

Before the day is over, just wanted to say Happy Christmas to everyone! Stormy had a great day and got lots of presents.

Baloo and I, in keeping with our informal Christmas tradition, totally forgot to get any groceries for breakfast, so we had an impromptu trip to Denny's this morning (it was delicious, lol!)

Hope everyone else had a grand time too!

So frustrated! After Christmas, I had a bit of a cough, w/e, no big deal. It became a horrible plague from hades. (Most likely the flu). Stormy got his flu shot weeks ago, but Baloo and I never do (usually don't need to), so Stormy got a minor cough and that was all. I ran a 102.4 fever for 2 days (on and off, with Advil). Called off work 2.5 days, felt like I was gonna die (figured out this morning how seriously dehydrated I was. I've been guzzling water all day and am on the mend, but Baloo's starting into it.)

Why is this frustrating? It was absolutely GORGEOUS out on Sat, and I was supposed to do a 9.5 miler this week. I hate when good weather is wasted! Now I'm gonna end up doing it at the gym, boo!

Anyway. 51 days left! So close and yet so far away!

I forgot to post a couple days ago, but:

We paid off our trip! Yaaaay! :cheer2:

Today is 45 days left. Just a month and a half now!

Oh my gosh, I didn't even realize, but the Disney Marathon was totally this weekend! That's so awesome! Did you get any pictures of them? =D

it didn't even cross my mind to try to get any pics--darn it!! we did see where one of the races started when we took the monorail to epcot, but it was empty by the time we went by.
