Hi!
I’m Kelsey. And this is my first PTR! For now I’m a stay at home mom after we transplanted to Wisconsin last fall. In my previous life I worked in public media and broadcasting. I’m also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Cameroon), which weirdly played a huge role in my Disney renaissance.
I made my first adult trip to Disney World in 2010 as TOTAL skeptic. But in a few short days, I was not only reminded of all of the Disney stuff that I loved from my childhood, but was shown how much care Imagineers have put into the parks and resorts. AK and AKL absolutely blew me away, and I was incredibly moved to find real artifacts from the region where I served in the Peace Corps in the lodge. After being someplace so remote, cut off from the Western world, to have it represented at a theme park was extremely special. It was so impressive, that I just HAD to come back and stay there sometime (make way for our 2012 trip!).

Yes, in 2010 I surprised everyone and dressed up for dinner at Boma. Not sure why, but it was pretty fun! This is a traditional robe from the region of Cameroon where I served at AKL.
We also ate and drank around the world and had SO much (adult) fun... I had no idea!
Add in the amazing service, food and booze, and it was a done deal... I know, I know... YOU get it! After every trip (except the one in the hurricane on the boat… it took me a few weeks to get over that one), I have come home to plan another! So I’ll jingle my way through this trip report, even though its SERIOUSLY early (hey… park hours are OUT, so why not?). A few more details on me:
My favorite...
Park: Epcot & AK tie!
Character(s): Winnie the Pooh, Snow White
Ride(s): Spaceship Earth.. but my favorite thing to DO is sit around Africa and drink a Tusker
Food: Dole Whip half pineapple half vanilla FLOAT (4eva), Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake
Drink: Avocado marg at La Cava
Movie: The Lion King, Alice in Wonderland
And... to introduce the troop of fellow travelers:
Brian: My husband who WAS the bigger Disney fan, but we’ve switched roles. He now is the one encouraging us to take trips other than those to Disney (ummm, duh. We can do both). He works in advertising (media), but fancies himself a philosopher. He grew up going to Disney World and Disneyland.
Brian's favorite...
Park: Epcot
Character(s): Figment and Big Al
Ride(s): Spaceship Earth and Haunted Mansion
Food: Waffle sandwiches and Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake
Drink: "The Prescott" at the Rose and Crown (Boddingtons and Guiness)
Movie: Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone
Maple (yep, really!): Our feisty, travel-hungry little Cinderella pumpkin. She will be 18 months old for her first trip to see Disney World (she’s been to two Disney properties before. Disneyland Paris at 16 weeks and Disney World at 24 weeks GESTATION. She also went to Castaway Cay on that trip. Yea, she was a worldly little fetus). So far in her short time here, she’s fallen for Pooh pretty hard... mostly just Zooey Deschanel's sweet voice singing Hoooooney (someone else may have fallen for that, too?!). But she also likes dry, crispy leaves and lint… so I’m sure we’ll be able to find something she enjoys. Her schedule and still unknown 18-month old needs will dictate a lot of our plans, and I'm hoping for good advice (and be candid!) from any/all of you readers with young child experience!
Randy and Rae Ann: My in-laws! Truly awesome, generous, fun people! They come from Idaho, are serial Disney-goers, AP holders and are always up for anything! This upcoming cruise with be their 10th (yea, platinum!), and Rae Ann knows just about everything there is to know about WDW.
Here is the basic breakdown of our trip:
12/16-12/21 Wilderness Lodge
12/21-12/24 Disney Dream Christmas Cruise!
12/24-12/28 Madeira Beach (south of St. Pete)
Thanks again for reading along, and I look forward to sharing the trip after we get back! 219 days!!
