This trip report is years in the making. I would spend countless hours online looking at Disney vacations and knowing that it wasnt possible but still yearning to give my children something I never had. Vacations were not something we did as a family. Affording them was not a possibility. There is a ton of background, as to the whys vacations were never considered. All 3 of my boys are on the autism spectrum. 1 out of the 3 has co-occurring medical, immunological and mental health issues. We were 100% focused on doing what needed to get done to help our boys and making our daughters life as normal as possible.
Through the years Ive watched my 12 year olds love of all things Disney grow. He use to have an obsession with carrying VHS tapes, that started around age 2 and which still sort of continues today. Now he doesnt carry them but has to own them. (Regardless of the fact we dont have a VHS player anymore) He can tell you a lot about Walt Disney and Disneyworld. Hes an amazing kid and for years I wanted to make his dream come true.
This past year has been a struggle for me. Ive done it all for so long. My dh is a wonderful man but he also works up to 80 hrs a week. In June of last year, while shopping with Sean, I got sick, dizzy and couldnt walk. DH came to pick us up from the store and went straight to the hospital. No one knew what was wrong but they knew it was something. It started me down a path of multiple doctor appointments and finding out that I have multiple things wrong. MRIs reveled several areas of back and neck disc problems and moderate sacral arthritis. My S1 nerve is compressed bilateral, my medial nerve from my neck is compressed. I have what is called ankylosing spondylitis. Ive had 2 operations in the last year and there are more to come. I ended up at an ENT to deal with multiple swollen lymph nodes in the neck area. All were biopsied and one came back inconclusive. I had my tonsils removed , which was horrible. Knowing that things were bound to continue in a downward spiral, while we found out how to deal with what was going on; I booked Disney. Its only money and I can figure that all out. It was time to enjoy my children while they are a little and I can still walk and pain is minimal. We needed a real vacation. Ive spent 3xs as much on medical as this vacation will cost.
Booking was not as easy, trying to get a vacation in between Ms work schedule, the kids school events and my work schedule. We settled on June 5th -11th. Staying at Pop Century - Free Dining Pin (that post card came at just the right time).
Up next an exciting event two weeks prior to our departure.
