Issues with room block?

Hello everyone! :flower3:

Ok, so I am freaking out about this room block thing.:scared1: What I'm worried about is that I have about 40 nights right now that I'm putting down for a room block, but I have a lot of "maybes" for those people that said they wanted to stay at a Disney hotel, and I'm really scared to put down 40 nights and have, like, only 10 be filled! I don't care about getting the free night (although it would be nice), I'm scared that if a lot of rooms don't get filled I will get stuck paying for them.

I contacted my consultant, and she told me that if we wait until 30 days before the wedding, 80% of the rooms have to be filled and if not, we get penalized. But if we only go 60 days before the wedding, and remove all unwanted rooms, we will not be penalized.

Even though she said this, I'm worried this will not be in writing when we get our LOA, especially because our actual planner (whenever we get one) may tell us something different.

Has anyone had an issue with their room block? Any advice is greatly appreciated! :goodvibes

I'd go less rooms then what you think you might need, your guests need to be accountable for their own actions, so if they don't book soon enough and miss out on your room block it's their own fault. There should still be rooms available somewhere on Disney property for them, and this means you wont have to pay for any unfilled rooms.

You can always ask people on the DIS for their reservation numbers as well to fill your room block.

If you're worried, have the consultant write this into your contract and go with the 60 days. Then put the fear of God in your guests with repeated warnings that they must book by 60 days out or they will not be guaranteed a room. :)

I'm confused:confused:...how does that work?

Anyone who has a reservation at Disney during the dates of your room block can give you their Disney resort reservation number to add to your block and count toward you quota. You can just post the dates you need help with here or on the resorts board and people will help you out. It's also advantageous to them because by using your block when booking, they can get whatever discount you've been offered. :thumbsup2

Ahhhh, thank you so much! I called my consultant and left her a message (it's too bad they aren't open on the weekends) to see if she can put something in writing for me. The "fear of God" plan sounds like a great idea!

The reservation number thing sounds great too!:goodvibes I never even knew that was possible, so thanks!
