DS11 has an online game he likes to play and to make it easier, talking v. typing, he bought himself this
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-981-...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1294545728&sr=1-1

It's a microphone (talk) and headset (listen).

It works fine for browsing the internet and word prgrams. When he goes to play the game it works on the "Test" function but when he actually gets to the game ... crickets chirp.

By not working I mean, nobody on the game can hear him and he also can't hear himself through the headphones.

I don't even play Farmville on FB so I'm nearly 100% clueless. Given that, my best guess is that it's not for gaming? The package says "Works with PC/Mac, Logitech Vid, Skype, Windows Live, Yahoo, AIM" and "Start talking online!" Nothing about gaming.

So -
#1 Your guess as to why it doesn't work with the game?

#2 What's a reasonably priced good gaming headset?

Thanks in advance!!

#1. The mic works. You said it works fine in other programs. Which means it is the game. So that should be one of two things:
1) The settings in the game are not set to use the mic. While the computer "sees" it, the game does not.
2) Depending on the game, the "lobby" he is playing it doesn't support mics. Again, depends on the game.

#2. For a 11 year old. Those are good enough. I mean, unless you want to buy him a $200 pair of Turtle Beach ones.

Thanks for the help. :thumbsup2

I'll have to sit with him then and go through the game's settings. He says other players use mics.

He's a pretty good kid and as much as I'd like to be a superhero to him, I don't think he'll be getting a pair of Turtle Beach ones.

Although, maybe I could use those to get him to keep his room clean. :lmao:

My son has Turtle Beach for his x-box and still can't use them for pc games. We were told that the game had to go through a program for the mics and there was a paid subscription for the "server" for lack of a better word.

I checked with my college-age nephew and was told that he and his friends used to pitch in to cover the cost.

You may want to do more research before you scrap the headset.

Good news!! I played around with a bunch of settings and got them to work with the online game he wanted to play. :cool1:

He's happy and I look like a computer whiz. :lmao:

A few more years and he won't be so easy to fool though. I'll enjoy it while I can. :)
