I remeber as a child that when Christmas fell on a Saturday that Boxing Day was on the Monday. Not a day in leui of Boxing Day but the actual day itself as it couldn't be celebrated on a Sunday. When did this tradition change?

Hi Libby
I noticed in my work diary today that it said 'Boxing Day' was today!!!
I'd never heard of that before!!! :D

I don't think the tradition has changed as such. Today is still officially Boxing Day, but most people just assume that it's always the day after Christmas day, regardless of what day it falls on. I guess as Sundays aren't really seen as a quiet day or holy day any more, it makes very little difference to most people now, so I'm not sure why Boxing Day is still not allowed to be on a Sunday.

We celebrated the 26th as boxing day, but I did notice it wasn't until the Monday.

Thanks for your replies - I didn't think about it until Monday as the TV seemed to be treating Sunday as Boxing Day I just went along with it. Anyway it'll be a few years until it confuses me again!!
