I was driving through the town across the river and was cracked up by the "Say Yes to BEER!" signs with a giant smiley face. I keep forgetting that they are dry over there.

It just seems odd to me, in this day and age, that there are still dry towns out there.

So I was just curious and thought I'd make a poll. :goodvibes

There is a tiny town about 15 miles from here that is dry.

We had a vote to get liquor-by-the-drink about 6 months ago and it passed (overwhelmingly!) Prior to that it was just beer and wine.

No thank goodness, but the town I grew up in was and still is dry. I think maybe one or two restaurants have a liquor license but no stores sell. We always had to go the towns next door to get anything (which we did).

No, no part of my state is dry. And I don't think that any part of my home state (Iowa) is dry either.

Nope, there's nowhere in Iowa that's dry.

My fiance is from Mississippi, and apparently they're a dry state by default. Local jurisdictions have to decide whether or not to allow alcohol to be sold in their county, and I guess only about half of the counties allow it.

No. Alcohol isn't sold at the stores here on Sundays, but it's not a dry town. My grandma would vote for it to be if she could though, LOL!

Same with me. The town I grew up in (MA) is dry but about 4 restaurants have been granted liquor licenses.

The town my sister's college was located in is dry -- good thing it was a small, very Christian college!

Nope! Thank god! I have Anthony to prove it! :)

No - they do have laws on Sunday that you can't purchase from a store until after noon but they just changed the law for resturants and bars to start serving on Sunday starting at 7AM - what bar is open at 7AM?????

In western NC where my mom lives it was dry for the longest time. My sister was visting when the law was changed earlier this year and she said it was funny how quick they got beer and wine in the grocery stores.

We actually have several counties (not just towns) that are -- though by applying for liquor licenses under a "private club", most of the restaurants and clubs get around it, so it's kind of a joke :confused3

Phew! Thank goodness thats not true! Our wedding reception would have just been people sitting around staring at each other!

And what did alcohol do to stop that? Do you need alcohol to talk, dance, and have a good time? :confused3

When my family lived in Mississippi the whole county was dry. Had to go way out of town to buy beer. When we moved to Missouri the city we lived in only sold 3.2% alcohol beer and nothing on Sunday.

I couldn't vote. Our town, Savannah, is dry at the retail level on Sundays. You can buy drinks in a restaurant, don't know if the bars are open. It's funny to be in back of someone at Publix checkout line on a Sunday afternoon and they are heading to the beach after they pick up their case of beer. You know, the one they got from the cooler that has the lights out, the plastic drawn over it and the sign that says "No Sunday Sales"? Actually, I kind of feel bad for them. SC is across the river, but they are dry on Sundays, too.

the bar right down the street here just put out a sign:

"now open at 6am Sat and Sun for breakfast. Have an ice cold beer"

finally! After the other bars close at 3am, it's been an ordeal waiting for them to open back up at 11am... now I only have to wait 3 hours.... maybe I can convince them to stay open until 5am, so I only have to step outside for an hour between shifts ;)
