Is Yachtsman Steakhouse worth 2TS?

I have Yachtsman Steakhouse booked for the night of our arrival, but is it worth 2TS per person? Would my daughter be only 1 TS? My husband wants a good steak somewhere, but I don't eat red meat, so it doesn't matter to me. I also have LeCellier booked for lunch (can't get dinner). I am wondering if we should just opt for Spoodles? My other dinners are at Kona, Boma, and Mama Melrose. I also have more ADRs than I have dining credits for, but don't mind paying OOP for a meal or two.
Thanks for your opinions!
:goodvibes

Concourse has an excellent steak as well and it is only one service. Might be something to consider. I, however, have yet to do Yachtsman. I do love concourse though. Besides Le Cellier, it is my fav!

just went there last week, and found it to not be worth the extra credit. to put it in perspective, our bill for two adults at YC was $140, while at Spoodles we spent $160, yet only paid one credit. plus the food and atmosphere was better at spoodles.

next time, we will nix YC (as well as all other two credits besides HDD, as you just dont gain much more for the extra credit).

JUst went there on July 7th for dinner.... Thought it was nice, would not go there again, did not think it was worth the 2 TS per person.... Should have tried the Steakhouse in Canada! :confused3 oh well, next time!

Our bill came to $147. something with tip.... still didn't think it was worth it...

Thanks for your opinions. I think I might try to talk him into changing to Spoodles, as we will be in Epcot that day, anyway, and I think we can walk over there through the back gate. Maybe I will just use the 2 credits I gain for a different dinner or Crystal Palace breakfast.

I don't think the Yachtsman is worth it.
We went before the dining plan, but found the place to be very snooty. We had an ADR, had to wait 45 min. for a table. We also were unable to get anything to drink because kids were not allowed in the bar (totally understandable) but would not allow us to take anything out from the bar (not even water!). Kids were bored beyond belief. Our waiter was great, but the food was not worth it at all. I had the same prime rib there as I did at Chef Mickey's, go figure. :confused3
DH enjoyed his steak, but did not want to go there for our upcoming trip. Also, if you enjoy that Disney magic, you aren't going to get it here, it's just another upscale steakhouse.

We went to Yachtsman October 28, 2005 on our Disney honeymoon. It was also the 10 year anniversary of our first date. We were in the same situation as you: my husband is a carnivore and I only eat red meat 2-3 times a year.

He used 2 meal tickets to pay for his, and I paid cash for mine considering I don't eat much.

The scallop appetizer is TO DIE FOR!!! My DH had a 24 oz porterhouse steak with mushrooms on the side. He devoured the whole thing and ate half of my 8oz filet mignon. The creme brulee is ok, but they serve it cold and I prefer it warm.

Overall, I would recommend just your hubby using 2 meal tix and pay cash for your own meal.

While the steaks are excellent, I don't think it's worth 2 TS credits. LeCellier's quality is top notch too.

We were disappointed @ what we felt was condescending service from waitstaff. Early on in the DP we were made to feel "second rate" while the server loudly went thru a laundry list of the exclusions on the plan. We were dressed "business casual", yet found it insulting that the server felt the need to explain the butter plate's purpose to us:rolleyes: I've commented before on this poor attitude & I was chastized by other DIS'ers that I was "lucky" to have such a legendary server :snooty:

...you know what they say about opinions but, if it walks like a duck & talks like a duck...

Yachtsmen Steakhouse is one of the best restaurants at WDW. Great steaks and appetizers, wonderful wine, terrific service. We've been there about 10 times.

But I'd be just as happy if you didn't dine there with the DDP. It's ruining the restaurant scene at the signature restaurants with attitudes like these. They should pull Yachtsmen off the DDP completely, and leave it to folks who want a high end meal.

My DH and I dined there last week during our "no kids" week at DW. We were on the dining plan and did not mind that we had to use 2 TS credits, but found that it was not worth it. My DH enjoyed his meal, but I did not care for mine at all! We were seated quickly, but were put in the middle
of a large group of 30 people which did not make for an intimate dinner for two! We had been to YS two time previously, and were disappointed this trip. We have both agreed that we will not dine there again for awhile! On the upside, using the 2 TS credits at the YS caused us to find another nice restaurant to pay out of pocket for. We went to Shulas. It was the BEST that we eaten in A LONG time! It was perfect from beginning to end! I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone (w/o children). It was well worth the money!

By all means...must keep out the common folk on the DDP!

Quick, Muffy - bolt the door so the barbarians can't get in & ruin it...;)

By all means, keep the "barbarians" out if all they want is a cheap meal. YS used to be one of the best restaurants on property, but the DDP is having lots of adverse affects on the signature restaurants, it seems.

We were there in May, and I thought it wasn't as good as previous visits. THe difference, of course, is the curse of the DDP. It's killing the menus of restaurants WDW wide. The Olivia's menu is now the same as the Yachtsmen Galley restaurant.

Amen Keisha! Sometimes people forget that the DDP does Cost money(usually) I don't think its out of line asking if its "worth" it.

By "adverse" do you:

1) include the declining level of service from CM who are guaranteed 18% for lackluster service?

2) bemoan the availability of obtaining ADR's in general?

The DDE plan 20% discount for food & drink doesn't get blamed for general "dumbing down" of the menus overall experience @ WDW, why does the DP? Ever think they're just trimming costs/expenses & concentrating on a meaner & leaner operation? If WDW chooses to utilize the DP as a loss leader to subsidize rack rates climbing 10% or more each year, it's good marketing.

Personally, I don't visit WDW for a fine dining experience, would think it's more the exception than the norm...plenty of those opportunities for us to enjoy @ home or "horrors!" outside the WDW gates. I do look for reasonably well prepared, competively priced food, including service w/a degree of civility.

IMO, being pretensious doesn't equal being classy by any stretch of any imagineers definition.

I thought the restaurant was nice, however... Didn't think the atmosphere was that great... I actually didn't mind spending the 2 TS, so that was not my issue... I just didn't think it was worth it... At home, I do go for plenty of high end meals.... Just didn't think this was one.

I don't think the dining plan has anything to do with the atmosphere at all.

I did pay for the dining plan and I have used 2 TS for meals during other visits...

So you're talking about the decor? I always thought that was quite nice. Understated, but nice.

But the steaks were out of this world good, and they USED to have cool things on the menu like buffalo steaks. It was a striking, innovative menu.

DDP seems to have changed all that. After clawing its way from the culinary bottom in the late 80s, WDW seems determined to head back that way.

DDE is much more limited since only Florida residents and passholders qualify. It doesn't have the same effect that the DDP has, since people feel required to get the appetizers and desserts because they come with the plan, so Disney makes cheaper and crappier desserts to satisfy the masses.

I've been to Disney at least 50 times, if not 100. We've eaten out there A LOT.

There were several terrific, destination-type places to eat at Disney. Besides the Yachtsman, California Grill, Jiko and the AP at VWL come to mind. And France, Japan, Canada in Epcot.

We definitely went to WDW for the dining, in part.

Glad to hear you enjoy the food @ WDW.:thumbsup2 Must admit we were shocked to be able to find decent food served in an amusement park & surrounding resorts.

Lots of DVC'ers have AP's due to the generous discount we get, still many opt for the DP now that it's available over the DDE & the liquor discount. I do think the DP is an overwhelming amount of food over several days.

DH & I were musing as to whether the popularity of the DP made it difficult for the "locals" to get a last min. ressie that they probably were able to garner before the plan.

OT, but since you're a Floridian...have you eaten @ Mythos? We thought it was great. Couldn't get into Palms or either of the Emeril sites though, wondering if it's worth the hype - bam?
