Is what you have because of luck or choices?

I know it is a combo of both...

But do you think you have what you have (good and bad)...both material things and other things, more because of decisions you made or because of the hand life dealt you?

That is pretty "deep"....I do though, believe it is because of the "hand dealt to me"....You gotta do what you gotta do....

that is quite a good question though...what do you call it...physilogical??

I was born healthy and in the USA, to a fairly well off family. They are loving and mostly suportive. That is a great hand to be dealt. That is luck.

But I don't know the answer to your question. Maybe there is no such thing as luck, and it is just good karma. Maybe there is no such thing as choice and it is all luck.

I always tell people that the harder I work, the luckier I get!!

That is it exactly!! DH has been 'lucky' and has had some great opportunities...but he had to work hard before those opportunities showed up.

A little of both, but mostly choices.

I'm painfully aware of my shortcomings in life. I'm not good with managing money. I am not great with follow-up. I'm sometimes impulsive and emotional.

My husband is the polar opposite. Methodical, unemotional for the most part, fabulous with money. We share so many loves of different things in life, and we balance one another for our shortcomings.

Was my current situation what life handed me? No. I come from a family of people who are so much like me. I see them suffer constantly because of their poor choices in life. I'm just glad I was able to make ones that have worked out for me.

Mine is a combo of both- or maybe just fate? Hmmmm.

I don't know. I've worked hard to get where I am, but I've also had some setbacks that I neither worked for nor would I consider luck, unless it's of the "bad" variety. But, I'm incredibly lucky to have met my dh, and married into his wonderful family...

Ok- I think I'll be leaving off more confused than when I started. :lmao:

I believe that in matters of what I have... in material things, is due to choices I have made. What I am given, like love from my loved ones...those are blessings.

I married into money in the mid 1960's. Although my family seem to always have enough, I never thought much about it. Then I went through a divorce in the 70's, and since then I've found luck has been on my side.

I saw a quote that said something to the affect that "the quality of your life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you choose to deal with it."

When opportunity knocks, you better be ready...that's not luck.

On the flipside, bad things happen to everyone. We all have our trials, no matter how good you think someone elses life is. It's the human experience.

The bottom line is = the decisions YOU make have more affect on your life than any other force. And most importantly, they include the decisions you make about how to deal with the ugly things in your life. We're all stars when there's no pressure or conflict. But how do you react when the going gets tough? Those are the character decisions that define you.

Good question FreshTressa.

I guess I just get a little upset when people are always calling me "lucky"

I could have made different decisions and not have what I have today....I purposely chose things that I knew would get me what I want.

i don't believe in luck. Some of what i have came to me through choices, good and bad. Some of it came from Divine Intervention. I don't regret any of it because those experiences have made the person I am. And i have a lot of faults, but I like who I am. Neither lucky nor unlucky. Blessed

Choices...for sure!

I made the choice to not abort my son at the age of 17. I then made the choice to graduate high school and go to college. I became a RN but I wasn't happy. I then made the choice to go BACK to college and become a RDH.

I made the choice of picking a husband with goals and a good job. Yeah, my life is what it is b/c of my GOOD choices. Thank goodness. :)

I feel very lucky...for my health, for my family, for my husband, and so much more. HOWEVER, my husband and I started a business with -0- in our pocket and we've built it up very nicely over the past 7 years....we do quite well for ourselves and I don't really think that has much to do with luck at all.

Combo of both.

For instance, both my friend and I were on essentially the same career path. We were both assigned to the SAME job but were assigned to different clients. The client she gave her the exposure to a government client who, in turn, helped her get a government job. My client and the work we did together did not go in that direction. So, she kind of "took off" a bit more in career than I have. That was due to luck. I feel that if I had been given the same exposure, I could have done as well.

So sometimes people "get breaks" and that gives them more. But I don't think that is the whole picture. I think hard work/responsible choices gets you into a position where you may get more "lucky breaks."

That's how I feel about my DH. Couldn't have said it better myself

When I really think about it, given those two selections, I'd have to say it's 100% about the choices I've made. Heck, even being "lucky" enough to win a jackpot on a slot machine was about choosing to play that machine...choosing to go to the casino...choosing to be in a place with a casino...

I have to say choices have played the biggest part. We take most of our choices very seriously and have done well with them. One of my favorite Branch Rickey quotes: "Luck is the residue of design"....:)

I think it's 50/50 -- actually, maybe 45/55: Either the choices you make or your luck can condemn you; neither the choices you make nor your luck can save you.
