Is WDW moving away from Celebrations/Promos/Campaigns?

The last celebration/campaign we recently had was for the 100th anniversary of Disney Studios and WDW's 50th. Aside from major anniversaries, it's been a while since there was some other promo/celebration. I can recall "Show us your Disney Side" with picture ops and related things. We also had the "24-hours at Magic Kingdom" (One More Disney Day) event. They also celebrated Mickey's big birthday. Of course, there was the popular "Year(s) of a Million Dreams" promotion from many years ago. There were the "What will you celebrate?" and "Limited Time Magic" For a while, it seemed like once 18 months (typically) of one campaign ended, we were on the next.

Aside from anniversary-type events, I wonder if WDW has moved away from promos/events like the Million Dreams, 24-hours, etc. Sure they can be a money grab (merch), but they did sometimes add new fun opportunities and what have you into the Parks.

Do you miss them? What would you like to see brought back? What new event/campaign would you create?

To be honest, I don’t miss them. For a while there were so many back to back that they just didn’t feel special anymore. I think celebrating the milestone park anniversaries (perhaps every five years) and the occasional corporate anniversary (like the 100) are plenty.

It’s kind of like Epcot and the festivals. Sometimes it’s nice to go to Epcot and NOT have a festival going on, in my opinion.

In my eyes I think the reason why Walt Disney World is slowly moving away from celebrations/anniversaries and campaigns is because they find these celebrations cost expensive money to develop and plan much like they do with shows and new parades. Because when Walt Disney World usually has big events like anniversaries it costs them lots of huge money. When you get the general picture for celebrations they have to design commercials ad campaigns have celebrities promote the anniversary celebration and Walt Disney World sometimes uses big name celebrities be the host of anniversary shows and all that gives them a huge amount of money. The only thing that Walt Disney World focuses on now are festivals which from their point of view in their eyes cost little money to develop and are easier to promote because when you have festivals during the springtime and fall that's when the parks get rising attendance every time there's a festival. But I think that Walt Disney World stopped with anniversaries and celebrations was seeing how Disneyland had so much celebrations and anniversaries Walt Disney World wanted to join in with competition and that's why they focus so much on festivals. But I can bet we will see the return of special celebrations to Walt Disney World in the future years from now
