Is Walt Disney World going to 100% security screenings at the parks?

I was there 5/8 to 5/14, while lines were longer than before, I don't think any took more than 10 minutes. I was pulled for random screening the first 5 entries, after that about 50%. I made a comment to the Epcot guard that I always get picked, he replied that pretty soon everyone will be going through them. It wasn't the metal detectors taking more time, it was the more thorough searches, especially at MK.

What to do? There are several options

1) Seal the property. Probably too late.... screening every car is likely not possible.
2) Reduce the Security line - screen all MDE bags & passengers, screen at the parking lots.
3) Back up the gates - no value. Creation of guest concentration in a public and easily attacked location.

4) Dispense with this security theater all together, dismantle the bag checks and return to just checking for valid tickets. It's every bit as effective, makes getting into the parks easier and is cheaper to boot.

If a guest is too afraid to be out in a a public place they can always just stay home and watch TV.

This bogus security theatre has got to go. Makes no one safer and inconveniences us all. I loathe it.

Completely unnecessary...just my opinion

We can say that -- until there is a massive incident at an amusement park. It's only a matter of time before someone decides to make a "statement" by hitting a family destination. I'd gladly give up a few minutes of park time to have screening done through the gates. Hopefully they are more efficient than the airports lately which, unfortunately, seem to have fallen behind on catching everything!

I would LOVE that. My granddaughter and I each carry a bag that's the size of an average smart phone (not the big phones that are almost a tablet but just a regular phone). You can see hers here. I carry the exact same bag just in a different color. They always just glance at the bag and put us through. Would sooooooo love not to have to wait behind the people who have enough gear with them to move into the park for a month.[/QUOTE]

:lmao:

If someone wants it to happen (a "massive incident"), it will happen regardless of the level of security. Do you honestly believe some rent-a-cops and Mickey cops are going to be able to stop someone who really, really wants to cause havoc?

I live in the real world. The world would be a lot safer if everyone else did too...

My fear is that when or if Disney goes to 100% metal detector screening is that something like what is happening in airports will occur at the parks.

Remember, there are two goals of terrorism: 1) to cause fear, and 2) to get people to change their way of life. IMHO, from what I have seen in this country since 9/11/2001, the terrorists have accomplished both of those goals with very few resources.

You are seriously misinformed as to the level of security Disney provides. If you had a clue, it would blow your mind...

Does Disney Security even carry a weapon? I know most don't, but what about the undercovers?

THAT! My husband's co-worker went down there years ago to apply as a firefighter. He was given a tour and, while not able to tell us all the details, said that there is security in place that is invisible to the tourist eye and dozens of undercovers with families in the parks 24/7 and that we would be stunned if we knew the measures that Disney has in place.

I think adding metal detectors is just an added benefit for the additional safety of park goers.

Nope, my point is that REGARDLESS of the level of security, if someone really wants to create havoc, they will. Also, you know absolutely nothing about my background. I doubt anything Disney has "security-wise" would "blow my mind". In fact, I'm sure it wouldn't.

I haven't encountered these new security measures yet. Is it really adding that much more time in terms of getting into the park? I could understand if we're talking about those recent airport lines, but if it is just another couple minutes, I don't see the big deal. I'd fully expect a private company like Disney to be 10x as efficient as a government agency. :D

Guaranteed, I wouldn't be "stunned."

Of course there is invisible security. In fact I would be stunned if there wasn't. This is a huge place, they would have to have security that is covert as well as overt.

That said, much of there overt security is security theater.

I don't know your background, but if you are as informed as you allude to, you would not have made the statement about "rent a cops" and "Disney cops." There is FAR more to Disney's security operations than even THOSE guys on the ground are aware of. It is layers upon layers upon layers. The security guys on the ground are often unaware of who is watching them, testing them, and working undercover among them, every single day.

The threat of a dangerous situation is always there, and very real, but Disney is actively working to be several steps ahead of anyone who is foolish enough to try something big. They use intelligence tactics that 99% of people don't even know exist.

I can guarantee it wouldn't. It is absolutely insane or someone to think that Disney security is that advanced. Pretty sure that Florida highway patrol is actually used for any major issues.

I mean, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but . . . LOL.

And your piont?.....I presented facts on guns recovered last year and exprience in seciurty ......you lol based your opinion on a snarky word worth....nothing.

Security like most work is part expreince, science and guess work. No airport security and park security are not perfect, but they are part of life today to.protect people asuch as possible.

No theater about any of it.

I have wondered how many people who say we do not need the alleged seciurity theater, would actually take a fight where there was no screening. I mean not just say so, but actually get on the plane or.train or.buses? Ride in cars over bridges no one or system monitors.

We have no proof, but I would bet very few.

Of course we know have another downed plane. We will have to is how that shakes out and we understand what happened. Except for weather not being a factor, we do not know much.

Prayers for the victims, families and freinds.

I will agree everyone is entitled to their opinion, I will not add the rude lol.

Give me a flight with just standard metal detectors any day. I would get on that flight 100%. The WDW wanding situation is a joke. It makes no one safer. A backed up queue presents a sitting target that anyone could mow down like a row of ducks if they truly wanted to. The terrorists have won, and they won a long, long time ago.
