Is Walt Disney World going to 100% security screenings at the parks?

While that is true, it could possibly make the difference between five shoot, or 25 shot.
Either way is a tragedy...

It could also make the difference in the wrong direction depending on whether their training is as good as they think it is.

Unless Disney has people do a test before getting in there's really no practical way to distinguish trained and competent from untrained or incompetent (someone could have been highly competent 25 years ago but no longer be).

Possibly, but I'll take those odds any day.

That's true under the current conditions. I don't know a lot about guns, but I would think some sort of national training program and background check is possible, similar to the airlines FFDO program (where pilots are deputized and can carry guns).
I'm not saying that is likely to happen, but I would personally like to see something along those lines. I'm thinking for teachers in schools and so forth...

Yeah I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. I can already hear the screams starting.

Given that I live in a state which has just decided we don't even need permits for concealed carry I have very little hope for any common sense training requirements.

There are several trained people. Off duty Leo's, some ex military, others who have taken appropriate courses. For example, airlines have the FFDO program.

And I don't really have a problem with any of what you are listing.

I do have a problem with Average Joe the Plumber walking past someone in EPCOT. I just do...I know many don't and I can respect that. But I disagree.

That won't happen and we know why: Money. You can't derail a ridiculously profitable business for several companies and - ummm - "public entities".

That's the bottom line.

I totally agree with you that people don't need to be carrying guns into the Magic Kingdom, and I apologize for being a bit snippy in my reply to you last night. I just think that you were painting with an awfully broad brush when you labeled one entire coast of the country as the "backwards end of the country." That's very unfair to a very large percentage of our nation's population, IMHO.

Oh I get you...no problem.

And I did stereotype. But the reality is that gun laws are comparatively more "lax", "free"; "open"...whatever you want to term it...in certain geographic regions of the country. It is what it is.

That isn't "bad" necessarily...but easier access would lead to higher numbers of poorly trained/equipped - one would surmise.

All I know is that I have two acquaintances who both shot themselves by accident cleaning guns who have conceal permits issued by - COUGH - a certain state - COUGH...

I've vowed never to go on small world with them.

I may be wrong...but I may actually be right too.

This was AK bag check on Friday 5-6-16 at 9:30AM. Took approximately 25 minutes. This wasn't typical for the week we visited, but it certainly can interfere with FP if you cut it too close. We made ours with 2 minutes to spare.

I am wondering just how atypical that is. That is exactly what we were confronted with on 4/17. So three weeks later, nothing changed.

This was the only time from 5-5 through 5-12 that we experienced a huge backup in security. I was not happy when I saw the enormous lines and then when the security guards checking were literally manhandling the contents of the bags and stopping to chit chat with guests. It was so slow.

Same with us, for the most part. While the other parks has some backup, AK was off the hook. Way out of line with the other parks. Maybe protecting endangered rhinos calls for a higher level of bag scrutiny.

That's a cute little bag! Can you tell me what brand it is and/or where you found it? I think my daughters would like that for carrying their stuff on our upcoming trip.
Baggallini Bryant Smart phone pouch. We have one in red and one brown. We each carry one and that's it. I'm able to bring my id, credit cards type stuff, my valet key, a small bag with things like tylenol, and extra set of contracts, my phone, and a small umbrella and it's just a bit bigger than my phone but it all fits. My granddaughter carries her camera and phone, and a few little things plus her mini umbrella. LOVE them. Nothing inside has been a problem with rain, they're a canvas type material and come in a bunch of colors. We ordered ours about 2 years apart on amazon.

Thank you!

It is very likely and it will be happening all over the country before long as well. I beleive in time the technos will be developed, there they will be able to scan you just walking tough a gate within stopping or even slowing down.

While todays seciurty is not in any way theater (just a snarky word), its not 100 yet..but its qiuetly improving, considering last year some 5,000 hand guns were stopped at transit centers.

Ugh. This is so exasperating. It's all security theater. The odds of anyone being involved in a terror attack are less than your chances of being struck by lightning.

Exactly...but changing our mentality as a society to become fixated is a problem.

And why people fly into buildings in the first place: to make you scared.

Need Total Recall body scanners (no need to stop) - which by the way (Trivia Time) has Corey Burton as the security announcer voice for that scene - he does a lot of voice over work for .... Disney..

I liked the body scanner in the Firefly episode "Shindig". Where individuals literally can't walk through the field if it detects a weapon on them.

5,000 hand guns may have been stopped but prior to screening being implemented, how many reports were there over the years of the people being shoot at transit centers? According to reports over a trillion dollars has been spent on airport screening and most experts agree that if and when there is another coordinated attack, it won't involve people taking over a plane.

Your entitled to your opinion, the reports I read is 5000 caught at various transit centers and venues. Of these, in the last year, 1813 guns at 205 airports alone, which 1400 were loaded ...bing it. The reason they will likely not go by plane is because security stops them.

But there is many other ways to get at people, the scare them to death. ..trains.....bus stations.........Hell............what do you think those patrol craft, armed to the gills are for,???? If not to stop a attach against a cruise ship going in or out of the harbor. The terrorist don't want a cargo ship with 25 people, they want a cruise ship with thousands.

The security agencies do not tell us much and only when they have to. Lots of attack are stooped and we never hear about them. The ones we do are the successful ones, like in Paris and Belgium and California! The others they quietly stop and learn from.

Screening is only 1 part and it will continue to be used and increase. Techno will get better and in time it will be just a matter of walking in a aisle.

I say keep it up!

No theater about any of it.

If the checks were random at the beginning like they were stated, I'd be more inclined to believe in them. I believe more in the security I can't see than the bag check I can, especially when they dump my testing supplies out of a *clear* cosmetic bag.

When they start building security around the properties then I'll believe they're worried about actual physical terrorist threats rather than crazies. None of the bag checks or scanners at Disney OR Universal will address making the actual property safer from damage.

You can drive right by Marvel Island and Dudley Do-Right Falls on one side, and it looks like it'll be easy to get to the new Volcano Bay water park the way they have it laid out against the roads. I'm betting you can get on the other side as well- I haven't tried. You can get right next to Space Mountain and New Fantasyland, not to mention a lot of the monorail piers without a problem. Same with the other parks, there are side roads that run right upside the back of attraction buildings and wire fences and alarmed cameras aren't going to be protection if someone decides they REALLY want in.
