Is VMK an "educational" game? I need to convince my school!

I was told that if I could convince the IT people at my school district that VMK was an educational game that was not chatting, I could have a shot of having it unblocked at my middle school.
:teacher: :teacher: :teacher: :teacher:
So, help me come up with what to say to my school district, please!!

Hmmm...I doubt your school will unblock vmk, but besides being a place to hone your social & communication skills (although many peeps are not doing well in this class)...the games allow you to gain practice with hand-eye-coordination :). How's that for starters? heh heh :teeth:

lol good luck!! i tried to get it unlocked but it counts as a game lol and there is no educational purpose to it lol

Steer clear of the English department as I am not at all sure that they would "a tea she ate" our dictionary dances. :lmao:

HA! I seriously doubt it will be unblocked. I see no educational part in VMK. :lmao:

Both of my parents are teachers. My father teaches Electronics and my mother teaches English. She encourages her students to play vmk!!! She has already hooked a couple into it  lol. (She teaches at the high school level).

I would say this as far as educational goes:

It brodens the children's social skills and helps then learn what is good and what is bad (trading wise? lol)

It allows them to expand their creativity!

Strategy is used! Knowing where and when to shoot those "bilge rats" lol.

Hand-eye coordination is a definate!

Disney education! Travel wise the students can see what a major theme park uses as a promotional device. Students can learn why vmk helps the success of Disney. Business become evident here!

The possibilties could go on and on...! lol

EDIT: My mother only encourages them to play at home and a few times showed them vmk from her computer AFTER the work was done lol. She doesn't interrupt lessons for vmk.

It's a bit of work, but you could really make the trading thing work to your advantage. Something along the lines of it teaching children how to make good deals and manage virtual items...or something like that. Most of VMK is just plain fun.

Loves Disney makes some very good points.

I guess you could argue that VMK is some sort of society. There are people who work for their credits, while others beg for free things. I know playing games for credits is not a "real job," but it shows that you can work to buy your own things, and furnish your own residence.

With a good presentation, you may very well be able to convince your teacher.

I wish you Good Luck.

Okay, now THAT made me truly laugh out loud!!!

But - one thing you could use to your side - as tough as a case it is - could be the planning and thought process that goes into true building projects.

The one I just worked on truly involved math calculations, one could argue some geometry, lots of forethought, and the ability to conceptualize something prior to creating it. I also could say that math was involved in terms of determining what would be the most economic way to build my project based on pricing on various items and the quantity of each that would be needed - cost comparison, etc....

From that view, I could ALMOST see how you may have a case. Math, planning, thought process. But i agree - stay away from the English department in your efforts -- and it IS a great way to chat!!! :)

Here's another to add to my original list...what about learning how to work with supply and demand? .. Can be used in buying and trading :).

LOL, I'd love to help you with this, Dizzy, but unless you're a Business School, I think it'd be tough... all the time when I'm playing I'm constantly thinking about how this is a giant marketing tool rofl... and the economic principles employed are fantastic!

All of the other people's suggestions have been very good though :)

The "CL" program offers responsiblilty to children to step up and keep things safe and helpful.

Educational? Hmmm Maybe as far as trading goes! However I do play vmk and do my homework at the same time does that count LOL. While it does take me several hours to get my homework done everynight, Its at least getting done..LOL:lmao:

if you can make this happen do you mind coming over to my school and getting it unblocked? :teeth:

I am an English teacher, and although I encourage my students to play (and enjoy meeting up with them in VMK) it isn't an educational game. It is a game for home and I think your teachers will probably agree that home is where it should be played.

Hi DocHT

Well at my DS school they have during their "centers" time what they call free computer time and I would think that VMK would be a great alternative to what they now allow the students to play.

One thing that posters have over looked is "concentration" many of the VMK games require it and that is something a lot of kids I know need work on.

Good Luck at getting your school district to unblock it.

First I would ask them why Disney sites are blocked at all??

What kind of sites do they allow??

VMK is unblocked in our school because our tech leader loves Disney so im lucky

Woot!!! Thanks for the new word - I have always wanted to say appreciate. lol

Umm, then why not just say it? Have you tried recently?

I think the following are in the dictionary:
- appreciate, appreciated, appreciation
