I agree with your assessment of Vanellope's title and am also impressed at your "wiki" knowledge. However, for the sake of debate, I do question the methodology of using "European" definitions for a US-based company such as Disney.
ok i'm in

first of all my bad for using "European" which disregards other areas of the world that had and some still have hereditary title ruling families. I should have used the term "old world" definitions of titles.
second my post was concerning Princess Leia and not Vanellope. Vanellope is part of lineage of video game princesses going back to I think Princess Peach and donkey kong but I don't think she had that name at the time. her title was bestowed upon her by a game designer.

as for using the old world definition of princess for a us based company, what definition should they use? the us has no "princess" tradition here.
to quote wikipedia
Princess is the feminine form of prince (from Latin princeps, meaning principal citizen). Most often, the term has been used for the consort of a prince or for the daughters of a king or sovereign prince.
the first six disney princess are all, even ariel (a danish story with greek mythology), based on european fairy tales.
