Is Universal for us and how bad is this time of the year?

We are thinking about going to Orlando for a NON Disney vacation December 27th-Jan 3 but only and if the airfare comes down. My first question is, are we completely crazy for going this week with the crowds at the parks and would are ages of children (7-9-11) even benefit from Universal at all? (only our oldest child is 54 inches). What are your thoughts?

Stay at a Universal hotel and the crowds won't matter because you can use unlimited Express Pass. Both parks have some really cool kiddie areas and Grinchmas is lots of fun (not sure if it will still be there tho').

Is there a list of Universal Hotels? We have 3 kids and usually have to do somekind of a timeshare for the 5 of us to fit and were thinking of HGVC Orlando at Seaworld (we wanted to do Seaworld as well) or Marriotts's Grand Vista or Cyprus Harbor...I can check the cost of staying there plus the cost of the express pass as well...thanks!

onsite hotels at universal allow 5 to a room.

I actually just got off the phone with them....we have to pay $25.00 per day for a rollaway bed....it is just not an ideal situation with all of us in one room....we prefer a timeshare because of the extra space....I will just have to do the math and see if the free express passes (and 2 2 day tickets) are worth it.....thanks!
