Is this waitlist hopeless?

We are December use year so we really should have tried to plan this months ago but I had to wait list the entire 7 days for the Grand California and Hilton Head in June. Neither resorts had any days and I had to wait list all days for both resorts. (we can do either) Is this just not going to happen? My points expire in November and are banked so we risk loosing them altogether. Any suggestions?

There's always a chance, but your chances for either WLs are pretty slim especially since your reservation(s) are for a full week. Based on what I have seen posted, it is more difficult to get a WL for an entire week versus 3 or 4 nights.

I would make a reservation at another DVC resort for the same time period so you know you have a vacation scheduled somewhere and that way you won't lose your points.

I was able to piece together a 3 night stay at GCV at 4 months out, but ended up with one day in a studio and then 2 in a 1BR. I waited for the full stay but called and booked individual days as they became available. There was about 6 weeks where I had day 1 and 3 booked and no day 2. That was stressful. My backup was to book the Disneyland Hotel at the 30 day mark. Is that an option?

If you use points to book the DLH, they will become reservation points and you won't be able to use them for a DVC reservation should you have to cancel.

That's a good reminder. We did know that, so at the point we booked DLH, we would have given up on GCV, but I didn't know that until we were faced with the waitlist!
