Is This Possible?

Before I post this to the rent/trade board, I want to find out if you all think something like this is possible.

I have reservations for New Years Eve week at OKW for 5 nights using points that expire at end of Feb 2003.

It is possible we may not be able to make this trip. It is too late in my use year to transfer all of these points into next use year.

If I find a HH member with available points in 2003, could we both get Member Services on the phone and:

1. Have the HH member transfer 2003 points into my account.
2. I change the NYE reservation name into the HH member name and transfer those points to the HH account.
3. I can then use the HH points to try to secure a reservation sometime during the summer of 2003 at HH.

With member services involved, we know the transactions of transferring points would be final. Am I missing some regulation that would make this impossible? Would my reservations cancel when we try to change the names or transfer the points?

You are missing one rule -- you cannot both transfer points in and transfer out of one account in a use year; you can only do one or the other. Moreover, before you could "transfer" your points to the other member you would have to cancel that ressie you already have. However, you can easily avoid that problem:

As to the reservation you already have, you do not need to "transfer" any points. All you need to do is change the name on the ressie to the person who takes it. Thus, the HH member could transfer points to your account and you could change the name on your ressie to that member. That would be only one actual "transfer" of points since your making a ressie using your points and putting it in someone else's name is not considered a "transfer" of points under the offical documents. So yes, you could do what you suggest but just use a little different procedure.

Not sure if you know it but there is a one-time only super secret banking exception that you are allowed to do with your points. If things don't work out the with HH ressie you may want to do that.

There is an unwritten rule where by MS will allow you a once in a lifetime muligan on the banking. If this were used in the situation of this thread, they would then be able to bank the points to next year.

David, you could do what you propose. You would not tranfer your points to the other member, only change the ressie to their name. You should know that getting HH next summer between mid June and mid August may be impossible even now as those usually need to be made at exactly 11 months out. No harm in trying though. Still the principle you question is sound and used many many. One way to use this is to get home resort priority for something like a GV or high demand times by either tranferring points or working out an arrangement with another member. Goodluck.

Thank you all...I will know in a couple of weeks whether we can go or not...At least I have some option........and if I can't "trade" my points with another member..then my wife and I will go down in January by ourselves...yea...no kids...and blow some major points....concierge level..here we come!!!
