Is this possible?

This is all hypothetical but just wondering...

Let's say I have 100 pt contract at OKW along with a 250 pt. contract at OKW. I really want points at AKV. Someone out there has 100 pt contract at AKV and are looking for 100 pts at OKW. Can we trade without having to go though a mess with DVD? What would we have to do.

Like I said, this is hypothetical. DH and I are not looking into doing this but I was just wondering if it could be done and interested in a discussion on it.

I'd assume if you want to trade points you need to go through the transfer process that you can do once a year. However if I read that policy correctly you can either transfer in or out once a year. If that is in fact the case then once one of the parties performs the transfer they are done for the year, and cannot have points transferred into their account until the following year. I might have misunderstood the policy, but it just seemed like you could do one or the other regarding transfers of points per year.

I suppose you could make reservations for each other thereby trading points without involving anyone else but the two parties making the transaction.

I suppose another option is to rent your points, and then rent points at AK.

I understand your post to mean trading contracts -- you would get an AKV contract, and your OKW contract would go to the other party.

It seems that should be at least theoretically possible, but only Member Administration can tell you for sure.

Both contracts would have to go through ROFR, but considering how little DVC is using ROFR these days, that shouldn't be an issue.

It's essentially a sale and rebuy for each party. You also narrow your interest group dramatically. Just sell OKW and buy AKV if you think the $20-30 (or more with closing) a point loss is worth it.

Yes that is what I meant. If no money is changing hands then why would they need to go through ROFR. Couldn't you just "give" it to someone? Just asking

Again, this is hypothetical, no way in heck we are getting rid of any OKW points for anywhere else. We love OKW! It was just a conversation on what if's.

So why would it have to be a "sale"? No money is changing hands, just titles. OK, it might cost you some in title insurance possibly.

But if 2 parties wanted to own at a second resort, wouldn't this be more cost effective that buying and selling?

I'm not even sure how this conversation came up with someone or why/if any one would want to, just asking if it is possible for no darn good reason.

The transactions must be handled separately whether money changes hands or not. In addition, the inherent value difference between OKW and AKV is significant so money would have to change hands. Theoretically the differences in contract size, points availability, etc can be easily adjusted for. In reality, in almost every case I've seen where this was a consideration one party or the other (often both) had unreasonable expectation or overly valued what they owned compared to the other. As a minimum you've got 2 closings and after 20 March, both would be counted as resale options without all current benefits. The other kicker is that DVC will require you put a money value to EACH contract for ROFR purposes.

Any change in ownership of contracts goes to Disney for ROFR. Even gifts to family members must go through the process. My understanding, in cases like this, it's like an automatic approval, but nonetheless, there is a process to go through.

I think that you could, if you had someone who wanted to just "trade" write up the contract that the compensation for selling is the other contract, and not money.

In that case, Disney could always step in, but again, they would have to met the terms of the transfer. So, if you were getting an AKV contract as compensation for your OKW contract, then if Disney wanted to, they could give you the AKV contract, and take yours--of course, that leaves the other party out in the cold.

Do I think they would? No, but you would have to go through the process.

I've actually done a direct swap of DVC for another timeshare and counseled several who were trying to do a direct swap. I can tell you from experience they require a dollar amount. Now could you force their hand, maybe, but you'd likely drag it out long enough that the other party would lose interest.

That is interesting that it is required but as you mentioned before, finding two people who own different resorts who felt that the value was "equal" would be difficult anyway.

Thanks for the answers. I was just using OKW and AKV as examples as we own OKW and can't stand AKV (so you would know it was hypothetical. I've been pretty verbal here about not liking AKV).

I understand how some people view theirs points in $$ amounts; DH is like that. Me, points are points and are equal, but that's me. I like to think simply.

The other person I was talking to about this also owns OKW and for the life of me, I can't remember how we got talking about this.

Each resort in going to have an inherent value. OKW is going to be the lowest for WDW for 2042 expiration. What happens when you get to the nuts and bolts of such a trade is the dollars become the main issue and invariably one side has a different view than the other.
