We are arranging a trip for a group of people for my birthday weekend this May... we are looking to go just from a fri-mon. Is it possible to rent DVC for this or can you only rent them for a week at a time?

DVC is a point based time share with no minimum stay. You can stay any number of nights.

Just switch over to the DVC Points Rent/Trade thread right here on disboards. You'll get all the information you need. I would say yes, it is typically significantly cheaper to rent points than pay cash to WDW.

There is a point chart at the top of this page. At this late date, depending on what type of room, the availability will be limited.

You can find dvc points calculators all over the place on the internet. Type in the dates you are looking for and it will tell you how many points you would need at each resort.

You won't be buying any points because they are worthless to you as a non-Member. You will be buying a reservation that a member made with those points. The number of points required will probably determine how much you will pay the member to make the reservation for you. Members charge anywhere from $8 -$13 a point to make a reservation for a non-Member. Be prepared to pay full payment to make that reservation if it is available.
