so we will be staying at a disney resort couple days before our cruise. we will be getting a rental car (one way) to drive us to port the day of our cruise. we will be picking up our rental from mco...

now, my question is...can i tag my bags/luggage and have disney take my bags to port/onto the ship, so we don't have to worry about or lug our luggage? we didn't purchase dcl's transfer...but i'm not sure if i can tag our bags, since we've received our tags along w/our cruise documents...

since we are flying in couple days earlier than our cruise, i can't tag my luggage yet...but i'm not sure if i can even tag my luggage if i don't have dcl transfer. i will be at the airport to pick up our car rental...i hope i'm making sense!

as the days get closer...my questions for "the specifics" are plenty!! as always, thank you for all your help! :flower:

No, DCL will transport your baggage only if you are using their transfer service from resort to port.

There is no way to have your luggage picked up at the airport unless you are taking a Disney bus to the port from the airport.

If you don't want to bring all of your luggage on the rental car shuttle to Port Canaveral and you have at least 2 adults, you could drop off everyone but you along with the luggage at the port, then return the rental car and go to the port by yourself. Porters will pick up all of the checked luggage as soon as you arrive at the port. Carry on luggage (included any beverages and anything you might need onboard before around 6 pm) must stay with your group until your room is ready around 1:30 pm.

You absolutely are able to have Disney take your bags to the port if you are staying at a Disney hotel pre cruise. We have done this on two different occasions. There is a fee (I think it was in the vicinity of $20-$25 which covered up to a certain amount of bags) and cannot be booked ahead of time. The charge appears on your shipboard account if I remember correctly. There is a phone number Disney will give you to call 24 hours in advance. I think it is called embarkation services. We then checked with bell services at the hotel to make sure we were on the list for luggage pickup. We tagged our bags and they were picked up in the morning. Yes, it was a splurge, but was so nice not to have to worry about them! Enjoy your cruise.

Last September I cruised with a group of 6 ladies/friends. We had a private limo transfer. Luggage for 6 ladies was going to be a problem for that car. Not sure if it's still being offered, but we were able to send 6 tagged suitcases with DCL for $25 even though we did not use their transfers. A bell services gentleman arrived at our BLT villa at like 8- or 8:30 to fetch our luggage. Worked beautifully.

Yup, we've done this too and plan to do it again in Nov.

OK, then. Thanks. Maybe it depends on how much they are already picking up, whether it's offered. :confused3 OP, I suggest you contact DCL and ask about this option.

There is a luggage service for transporting bags without buying the transfers but as mentioned it does cost (but $25 for 6 bags is a deal compared to what a larger rental car could cost).

Just make sure your resort has you on their luggage pick up list.

A bit different, but we were staying at the Yacht Club and had DCL transfers from MCO to the port (was going to drop off our rental at MCO and take the DCL bus from there to get to the port earlier). Well, I asked bell services if I could have my luggage transferred from the RESORT to the port to keep us from having to schlep it back to MCO load it on the bus. Seemed like a simple request because I had already paid for transfers with luggage service but I was on the phone back and forth with DCL and bell services for over an hour. I gave up and just took our bags to MCO and checked them in there for the DCL bus. I don't think they understood what I was asking.

I agree with your surprised response! I tried to do this in August and was told I couldn't just transfer luggage to the port. I will try again in March and see if it works.

I didn't think it was possible without using Disney's transfers either. One of my travel companions was also my TA and she knew about it. She took care of the arrangements so I can't tell ya exactly how to do it. But it was possible in September of last year. That I can confirm. :)

I have had good luck calling my hotel directly before with questions. You might want to call the hotel and ask for bell services. They could probably go over the procedure with you.

I'm not sure the hotel would have anything to do with DCL transfers, except that the bell services people pick up the bags to be delivered to the DCL transport truck. But they are supplied a list from DCL what rooms/guests require the service.

I agree I have done this many times and posted it many times on these boards.

The actual fee is one cruise transfer fare so $35 and they will take six bags for you for that, you have to book it within three days of your cruise and tell them the room you are in at WDW, we did it twice.

The bags were taken from our room via bell hop at 8am,and we drove and then ext time we saw them was in the stateroom.

This question has been asked a number of times before here and a search will show that. I understood it to be common knowledge myself.

Considering you would tip at the PC end if you took your bags its actually quite good value for six bags. Saves a hernia.

The $35 btw is debited to your stateroom account.

Certain WDW reports like the Polynesian have a manned DCL desk on limited hours, if you speak to them when there they can arrange it. Bell hop wouldn't organise it nor front desk at a WDW resort.

Speak to DCL 3>1 day pre cruise from your WDW resort, I have done this many times since 2006.

Speak to the manned DCL desks in any of the WDW resorts, I spoke to the one in the Polynesian, its limited hours, but easy to find.Bell hop do not do it.

Plus, if you are renting a car, you may be able to get by with a smaller and cheaper car, if you don't have luggage to deal with. Thanks for everyone who posted accurate information!

Your very true there, on all of it.

Extract from my post a number of years ago.

Saturday we went to Chef Mickey’s for breakfast, which was enjoyable and then we arranged for our luggage to go direct to the cruise ship and we drove there direct, without the luggage. It was a good drive and we got there about 10.30am, now I asked twice that I wanted to go direct to the parking lot as I didn’t have any luggage but was directed both times to the passenger drop off bay for your luggage, our luggage had gone direct. Anyway we parked up and went into the terminal it was already open, lots of people there already, the Concierge check in had moved from the end of the left hand side to the right hand side, I recall a shop and kids check in there before, check in was a breeze as we had checked in online and we went to sit down in the concierge area,
