Is this dumb? Epcot for lunch, then to DTD, then back to Epcot for dinner

My boys are obsessed with Legos right now and so I know they would love to go to DTD to check out the Lego store and other "stuff" there. The best place to fit it into our schedule is the day that we are going to Epcot. Is it just dumb of me to think that we could have lunch at Epcot (12:00 ADR at Chefs de France), go to DTD for the afternoon (on Disney buses), then back to Epcot in time for 6:45 dinner ADR at Epcot? I'm not worried about missing out on anything at Epcot that afternoon (our current plan is to go to MK for the afternoon in between lunch and dinner that day) - just haven't been to DTD in ages and can't remember how much time we should allot there - again the key draw are the Legos. Thanks for your thoughts!!

It's certainly doable; although not necessarily so efficient. You would be able to get in a couple of hours at DTD.

The challenge is that there is no direct transportation between DTD and any of the parks, so you have to get yourselves to a resort to catch a DTD bus. Epcot is one of the easier parks to do that from and leaving from France is pretty close to ideal, since you can exit at the International Gateway and then it's just a short walk to the Beach Club.

From the Beach Club you'll catch a DTD bus that may stop at one or more of the other area resorts (Yacht Club, Boardwalk and maybe Swan/Dolphin), which is a little inconvenient. Count on it taking an hour or so from when you leave the restaurant until you get to DTD.

On the way back you'll just need to do the same thing in reverse. Bus to Beach Club (or you can get off at Boardwalk if it stops there first) and then walk to Epcot's IG to get back into the park.

I would suggest a cab from Epcot to Downtown Disney. The other transportation options take a long time. We found it well worth the money and it is just a short ride so not too expensive.

That's true once you get the cab. Problem in the OP's situation is that they will be all the way back in France and it's a long way to the main gate of Epcot from there. If a cab is under consideration--and it might give them an extra 60 minutes or maybe a bit more at DTD if they do it both ways--I would suggest exiting at the IG and grabbing a cab from the BC to DTD. On the way back you could take a cab to the main gate or the BC depending on whether you were going to FW/"left side" of WS (Mexico around to Germany or thereabouts) or if you were going to the "right side" of WS for dinner.

Totally up the the OP to determine if that extra hour is worth the $30-40 (maybe a bit more with tips) a cab will cost vs. using Disney transport.

The bus trip to DTD is not so bad in the afternoon. It's the trip back that can take a while.

Maybe a bus from BC to DTD, when arrival time is not as critical, and a cab back for dinner to either BW or the front of Epcot, depending on where the dinner's at. That saves cab fare one way, and relieves the stress about making the dinner ADR. BW is maybe half a mile closer than BC, so should shave a buck or so off the cab fare.

How important are the ADRs? Downtown Disney has some nice lunch spots like Wolfgang Puck or Trex Cafe. If it were us, we'd simplify by taking a bus to Downtown Disney in the morning, then when done there, walk the trail to Saratoga Springs and catch a bus to Epcot.
