Is this crazy?

How should I get my gown to Orlando?

  • Fold it into a box and ship it

  • Fold it into a box and check it with our luggage

  • Lay it out in the golf bag and check with luggage

I was planning to ship my gown to Orlando this week to be there in plenty of time for our VR. As it turns out, we are going to WDW for the coming weekend to celebrate our anniversary. So, then I came up with the idea of carrying it to Orlando on the plane with me. Until I realized how huge the gown bag is and how really, really heavy the gown is.

DH came up with what I think is a really clever idea. He suggests that rather than folding it in a box to be checked with our luggage, we can put it in his very sturdy golf bag and check that through as luggage.

Is that crazy? It means the gown will not have to be folded into a box and it takes away the possibility of a box being crushed or mishandled in luggage.

What do you think?

Oh Cam I would not check it on the plane... I have heard horror stories and your dress is just to gorgeous to have it God Forbid get lost. I say if you bring it with you then bring it on the plane.

I did ship my gown down to Carolyn Allens 2 weeks before and it was very easy but then again you take a chance. Oh IDK. Could you call whoever you are flying with and ask them if you can bring it with you...I'm sure somehow you can get it on the plane and maybe stow it ahead..just fold it as best as you can and don't worry because you are getting it steamed. Right?

Lynn -- It is so HUGE!! I swear it looks like a dead body in a white bag. My partner keeps telling me the airport won't let me take it through security, so there is no chance of carrying it on the plane with me. She says then I'll be in the worst situation because it will have to be gate-checked without a box and without any protection.

Oh No cam... IDK. I would just ship it only because I had no problems with t and it was super easy. I know how big your dress is lol.

Who are you flying with?

My other concern would be how dirty the golf back is and what it smells like. My father has golfed for years and as OCD as he is about his gear being clean and what not...it still smells like a wet golf course.
Don't take the chance.
I would send it to Carolyn Allen's. JMO

Good point, P&PD! I should have clarified that the golf bag is brand new, having only been used once and it is absolutely pristine.

Lynn-- Howard and I are flying down together on Friday for a quick weekend to see the castle "iced" in celebration of our 24th anniversary which is Monday. We are only staying late Friday night until early evening on Sunday. And we are going to Carolyn Allen's on Sunday, so I figured I'd either ship it to the resort or take it on the plane and then, either way, hand deliver it to CA's on Sunday.

Cam send it right to her. I think it is only like..oh gosh i forget I want to say under $20 to store it there. She will bring it to you. Save yourself the hassle. Trust me it is super easy :)

Cam,
I would ship it secured and insured to Carolyn Allen's and save myself some headache and worry. Use FedEx or UPS so you have a tracking number so you know where it is at all times. Make sure you insure it for enough so that, God forbid, if you have to replace it you can do that. That dress is too beautiful to mess around with.

That is exactly what I did cam! I watched the tracking every day and thankfully I did not have any issues.

I agree - ship it!!

If it wasn't too big I would say carry it, but save yourself the worry and trouble. Imagine sitting on the plane looking out the window as the "baggage manglers" oops - I mean "handlers" throw the golf bag onto the plane. I once saw an episode of "Airline" (The Southwest Reality Show on A&E from a few years ago) where a bride checked her dress in a bag and it got dropped and dragged behind one of those carts. :scared1:
