Is this a violation of EBAY rules?

My dh recently sold several items and one guy bought a bunch of them.... last night the guy CALLED MY HOUSE! I was not amused. We have no idea how he got our phone #..... He has a creepy email addy too.... I'm starting not to like Ebay.

I have had some REALLY bad experiences with EBAY, so I don't like them either.

No it is not.

When you sign up for eBay you give contact info, including a phone number. If someone buys something from you or sells something to you, they have a right to ask for your contact information. If you don't want it given out, then you should leave your phone number off. If you are using the eBay invoice system, it is all listed on the invoice.

Go read the eBay seller's rules. All of this stuff is published by eBay.

Don't assume the infromation is correct though. I have been taken twice on Ebay, and one time ALL the information given by the seller was incorrect. He got off with my $1500 and I had to file a mail fraud complaint that got me nowhere!

Thanks Jipsy... my dh claims he didn't put in our phone #... but who knows. I don't "do" ebay myself... not interested.

Mermaid02 I would have to go search eBay, but I believe that eBay requires a phone number for their records and that if you don't want it shown to your buyers and sellers you deal with, you need to change your checkout preferences.

Also, under the seller guide eBay says this:

False or missing contact information

On eBay, it is not permitted to falsify or omit your name, address, and/or telephone number when registering to use our site. It is also not permitted to use fax or disconnected numbers as your telephone number.

If you've encountered an eBay member who you believe has false contact information listed in his or her account, please report the offenses using the Customer Support link at the bottom of this page.

Disciplinary action for this violation may result in the indefinite suspension of a eBay member's account, temporary suspension, or a formal warning. eBay will consider the circumstances of an alleged offense and the user's trading records before taking action.

I really don't mind people having my phone number. If I sell them something and they want to talk to me about it, that's fine too. eBay is a small side business for us.

If you have a listed phone number, it wouldn't matter if your husband gave it to eBay or not. It is VERY easy to get someone's phone number - especially if they have your address. Even if you use a PO Box, unless your name is "John Smith" (or something equally common) it doesn't take much to find it with only a town.

It isn't against eBay rules and can be very handy if something goes wrong with a sale. I just sold something to a woman whose email bounced back to me when I sent her the confirmation email. So I called her number and it forwarded me to a new number. It turns out they had moved and she forgot to update her payment information.

Keep in mind, NOBODY can get your information unless you have purchased something from them or they have purchased something from you. That information is not made available to everyone.

This happened to us too! My husband was selling something on ebay and the guy wouldn't pay. My husband was sending stuff through the ebay email saying you owe me money blah blah. The next thing we know he is emailing us threatening to take my husband out! Then the phone rings!! It was him! We didn't answer. We could not believe he called us and got our number but we learned it was all through ebay. They resolved it, my husband called him back from work and now they actually are friends so to speak. But it was scary!
