Is this a smart move?

I am planning a family vacation for the end of August.
We booked 2 standard rooms at the AAA rate of $159.20.
I really want water/pool view, which is $179.20.
However, I am Loews Gold and DH is Loews Blue.
One room is booked under my name the other is under DH's (same reservation #).

For Gold, it states that you can automatically upgrade to the next level at the time of reservation.
However, I was told that I could only upgrade 1 room with the Gold, not both; and with the Blue I have to wait until getting to the hotel to see if they can upgrade.
We are traveling with family and want connecting rooms. Since it doesn't make sense to upgrade 1 room automatically and wait until getting to the hotel to upgrade the other, the reservationists recommended not to go with the automatic upgrade with the Gold but to wait until we get to the hotel and then ask for the upgrade on both rooms since I am Gold and DH is Blue.

I could go for the automatic upgrade on 1 room (159.20) now but I would have to pay $20 more for the other room (179.20), making the difference $140 in total.

So is it a smart move to wait until getting to the hotel in hopes they will upgrade us since we are Gold and Blue.
Or should we just pay the $140 extra and be assured of getting the view we want.

(I hope this all was clear)

Thanks.

I have no idea if it's the smart move, but that is what I'd do, wait.

Can't you reserve both rooms under the your Gold card number? Why do you have to use two different cards for the rooms?

Since we have 3 Adults and 3 kids going, I was told that the automatic upgrade with the Gold is only good for one room; you can't upgrade multiple rooms.
However, if you have 2 Adults and 4 kids then you could upgrade both.

If having a pool/water view is really important to you and you're willing to pay the $140, then that's what I'd do. If the view isn't worth $140 and you'll only be mildy disappointed if you end up with a standard view, then I'd just leave the reservation as is. :)

Which hotel are you talking about? At the HRH I prefer the garden view--it's more quiet. At RPR we LOVE the park view. We had a view of the water way, the Hulk, Dr. Doom, City Walk and could watch the fireworks at US from our room.

You have way more disposable income than I do if you are willing to pony up that kind of money just to look outside. Either that or you spend way more time in your room then we ever did.

We stayed on site for 3 days and I think I looked out side a total of three times. (In the morning prior to leaving for the day). I would take the $140 and spend it on about 20 Margaritas at Margaritaville :teeth:

We are staying at the RPH.

Back the Badge, that is true. I guess the view is not worth it to pay extra $ for.
When I stayed at PBH last year we had a bay view room but hardly looked out the window (our view was blocked by trees anyway, so maybe that's the reason). I just wanted to make sure we weren't facing the interstate as I've heard some standard rooms do at the RPH.
Also, we don't necc. want a park view b/c I've heard you can hear the sound of the rides.

I'm with gschmerl. The park view in Tower 1 (upper floor like 1733) is my preference. I'd get one of each on the 7th floor and see which you prefer.
I love watching the Hulk start up in the morning and the park lighting at night.

VW,

I wasn't trying to be a smarty pants about it either. I re-read my post and it might have came off that way. I would take your chances at the front desk. I would bet they will do something to accomodate you.

When we arrived I did not even ask, push, pursue, any freebies or upgrades. We were just thrilled to be their. Later in our stay i did get the kids the "free" Loews backpacks with goodies, and they dropped off some cookies and milk.

Enjoy your stay...don't sweat the details.

Where did you find a AAA rate so low for the end of August? The only AAA rate I could find was $237.

I tell myself that every trip...still haven't been successful at it

Jez, on the loews resorts web site when you use the AAA code, that is the rate for a standard at the Royal Pacific. However, I booked over the phone.

Thanks for the quick response, however, for the time that we are going our rate is $237, one week later and the rates come down. Oh well at those prices we will only be staying one night.
