Is this a silly autograph idea...

I was at the craft store today buying my 115th pack of iron on transfer paper and had an idea. As I passed by some blank canvases, I thought it may be a cute idea to have the characters sign this instead of an autograph book. My kids are only 1.5 and 3 and I doubt they will even know what the autographs are. I was thinking of maybe getting an 11X16 and saving a space in the middle for a pic of the kids. That way the autographs could be all around it. My question is, do you think this would be a pain? And will the characters look at me like I'm crazy when I pull this out of my bag for them to sign? Any other suggestions?

I think that sounds like an adorable idea! :thumbsup2 You might want to get a small canvas to practice on so you can see what kind of pen/marker writes the best and looks the nicest.

I've been thinking about getting fabric markers and an adult size tshirt and asking characters to sign a tshirt that I can then turn into a pillow for my son. He'll be 3 1/2 on our next trip and we already have autograph books from our first two vacations so I'm trying to come up with something new/original for this trip.

That sounds really neat. I was doing individual sheet I had made up one year. I began talking to the CM attending one of the characters and she said that they have just about seen it all for autographs. She one time a mother had brought a roll of wall paper that she planned on hanging up in her child's room. I say go for it!!!

It has been done before! characters are used to signing just about anything. The idea sounds great!

I had the same sort of idea but thought of getting smaller size mats, like several different 5x7 and putting different photos in. I thought that would be a lot easier to haul around and only have to take one a day with me. But I don't have a stroller with me...just a bag.

My sister did this with an 8x10 matte and put a family 5x7 picture in it. It is super cute, but I don't know how she got around the parks with it. They did have a stroller.

you can by frame mattes that are especially for autographs. (or at least meant to be written on) They come in all sizes (I even got one that fit a 3x5" pic in a5x7" frame.)
Check the local craft stores, or I picked mine up in Walmart.

It is a great idea. Just be aware of the size since you will have to haul it around all day with you in the parks. It might get to be a big annoyance if the canvas is too big.

We used a pillowcase last trip. I used an embroidery hoop to hold the fabric taut while the characters signed.

Wow, there are some great ideas out there. Thanks for all the tips! My main concern was being the only crazy person with an odd object to sign! Guess that won't be the case:goodvibes

Thats a really cute idea...but I'm wondering if you'll really wanna carry this around all day! Its large!

I know. I'm sort of second guessing myself. Maybe I'll just do the autograph book and them make a collage of them around a picture mat??? I needy to take crafty 101:rotfl:

I think that's a great idea. I love the photo mat idea too. We did autograph books 2 years ago and baseball hats last year so I may do the photo mat this year.

I love that idea! But won't the autographs show up backwards when you iron it on? I have never done this but I may for an upcoming trip!

Couldn't you just have them sign right onto the dark t shirt iron on paper and then iron it on? I'm so new at this so please correct me if not:)

I just love how the picture mat came out!

My daughter will be 18 months when we go and this sounds like a much better option than getting the autograph book for her at this age.

Ok, that's the cutest thing I've ever seen! I think I am going to do it. My bag is big enough to fit one in so why not!!!

I did a large photo mat with an 8x10 picture. But - we were on the Disney Cruise. You just get to hand it in at the start of the cruise and on the last night our room steward left it for us on our bed. I love it! But - I don't know how easy it would be to walk around the parks with something so large. I used Sharpie markers - no bleeding and great colors to use.

A tip if you do a frame mat - line the edges of the mat with blue painter's tape where the frame will cover it. This way the characters won't sign out of range of the glass. The painter's tape comes off without an issue.

Another idea - and this would take some planning - is to get small photo mats and have the characters sign in groups. For instance, use one mat for all the Princesses to sign on, use another mat for all the Pooh characters to sign, use another for all the classic characters to sign, etc. The mats would be small and could stack in your stroller. And since you stand on line for the characters it would give you enough time to take out the one mat you want them to sign. Alot of work but I love the ideas of separate frames arranged on your wall but with different themes in each.

OP here - I was just going through all of my old subscribed threads and I came across this one. I thought I would share with you how my autograph mat came out. It was a wonderful idea! I absolutely love the final result. We have it framed in our living room with a picture from Chef Mickey's. Thanks for the great idea:thumbsup2
