Is this a good raffle item?

I don't have a teenage girl, but I remember what it was like to be one.

I am putting together a raffle basket to raise money for my son to go to New York next year.

I am going to be putting an assortment of ELF cosmetics together with a cosmetics case : eyeshadow collection, eyeliner, blush, lip gloss, mascara, etc.

I can do a ton of stuff relatively inexpensively, and would sell the raffle tickets for $1 each.

I ordered this item :
http://www.eyeslipsface.com/studio/eyes/eyeshadow/endless_eyes_pro_eyeshadow_palette_limited_edition

as well as a ton of other stuff. Just enough to get the free shipping, LOL.

Do you think teen girls will go crazy over this type of basket? I know when I was a teenager I would have been ecstatic with such a great amount of makeup.

Will also have a 2nd small item in the raffle, this :
http://www.amazon.com/Twilight-Eclipse-Marry-Ring-Set/dp/B004E9FVB6

What do you think??

How much are you planning to spend total for the basket?

Just wondering what you have to make back to cover your costs.

Is this a school trip? Are there going to be a whole group of raffle items from a school, sport or band group all selling different things?

I know I would ask this first before buying any tickets...

And I know I would buy them much more likely if it's your son going door to door selling them. I am very into the kids physically doing the work involved for their own fundraisers...especially at that age. I likely would not buy from a coworker selling tickets in the office for this.

My DD14 won't wear the ELF make-up. it irritates her skin and comes off too easily. It is a cheap make-up. You would do better getting some brand name stuff and fewer of it so you still make the money. Hard Candy is a good brand right now, lots of fun stuff and wears well. Her and her friends like this and stuff like Covergirl and regular stuff.

To be honest, any of the teenage girls I know, would not wear that brand of makeup. They make comments about ELF all the time that it's for "little girls" playing dress-up. They are into the expensive handbags, expensive clothes, expensive makeup, etc.... I'm guessing they wouldn't buy raffle tickets for it, no matter how cute the basket looked.

Maybe if you mixed in a bunch of higher quality "supermarket" brands, as well as some hair items, BBW items, assorted gift cards, etc... it might go over better.

I know this wasn't what you wanted to hear, and I'm sorry for that, but I'd hate for you to go out of your way to make it, then be disappointed in raffle sales.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I'm sure your son will have a wonderful trip, especially knowing how hard you are working to get him there.

DD is 13 (well in 2 months) and would not be interested in the rings. maybe look for some other jewlery that is interesting but still inexpensive. this is a necklace that i got for my neice (16) http://www.amazon.com/Sterling-Silv...r_1_1?s=jewelry&ie=UTF8&qid=1305315944&sr=1-1

she wears it all the time and her friends are always asking her where she got it.

As for makeup-DD and my neice won't wear it. it's a bit too harsh for their skin. DD only wears mascara and eyeliner but the brands both girls prefers is either hard candy or urban decay. if you have an elf near you, you can get a urban decay gift set there and they also have coupons out there that you can use to get some money off.

Thanks for the input!

These are junior high aged kids, that is why I thought it would be a good idea to have such a vast variety for a girl of that age.

We are going to be doing a lot of fundraisers, and chances are that this will be a basket raffle during something like a pancake feed or spaghetti feed.

Adding some cute hair products is a good idea also, thanks! Maybe from Claires?

Please before you do a raffle, make sure that you are doing it in a way that is not illegal. Many of the raffles that I've seen at fundraising type things are not done in a legal way. How you have to handle them varies by state, and some states are very strict. It would be terrible to raise a bunch of money in a raffle and then find out that you are in legal trouble for it.

Do you have ULTA near you? They have some nice makeup package and often have good deals advertised in their sale circular (I got a great deal on Bare Escentuals stuff there). Might be a good way to get a nice basket together.

I would stick with Maybelline, Cover Girl, etc. Nail polishes, hairbrushes or some things like that. My DD does not like Elf and would not like the rings as Twilight is so out right now.

I agree with the legality issue. I've ran our school pta for many years now and we are not allowed to do "raffles". In Kansas it's a form of gambling. We can do silent auctions, etc. Good luck.

It's not associated with the school, so we are free to do raffles, lotteries, etc.

The legal ramifications were figured out years ago, when the kids started doing the trips.

My dd would like the make-up but not the rings. What about a bath and body type basket. My dd likes BBW lotions and body splashes.

My 13 year old would not be bidding on Elf makeup. It doesn't work well on her skin. (nor mine by the way) But the idea is a good one.
Why not do a nail care basket- all cute colors, top coat, toe ring... all stuff going into the summer.
