Is this a good price for a DSi?

Toys-R-Us has the DSi on sale for $169.99 plus you receive a free "essentials" kit with it that normally retails for $19.99. I also have a $5.00 coupon, so my final price would be $164.99. We're getting one for our son for his birthday and it's my first time venturing into the DSi world so I need some advice. Is this a good deal or should I hold out for something better? I have no idea. Our son's birthday isn't until October, so I have some time here, but if this is a good deal, I'm just going to buy it now. Also wanted to mention that I purchased two games last week at Target. They were having a buy two get a $10.00 gift card. So, I bought Mario Kart and SuperMario. Anyway...just seeking some opinions. Thank you!

Can you apply the gift card to the DSi? Then you'd be down around $150. I don't know what's in the kit so I have no idea if it's even anything to count as an extra (on a lot of those things we don't because it isn't anything we'd buy or our kids would use so it didn't really "save" us anything...kwim?)

I tried searching it at WalMart's site but apparently they all come with a "bonus kit" or "extra game" so it's hard to get a feel on base price. I was thinking it was $150-ish though so if the kit includes anything decent (most notably a screen cleaner rag or extra stylus pens - that is what we DO use on ours) it could be worth it. You wouldn't be overpaying anyway in that scenario. My kids really want DSi's or DSiXL's but they all three have a DS and I have no idea what I'd do with them - we have way too much gaming mess laying around here!

$169 is the base price so the kit would be the only "savings', if it was something you would use (my kids use the cases, screen wipes & stylii. The game cases are a waste, you can use any old headphones so you wouldn't necessarily need those and that is all I can think of for a kit. I like the kits at Sam;s or Costco better, they usually come with a hard protective shell, case & some games-all things my kids use.
I sold my kids' DS's on ebay for $100 each in the weeks before Christmas. Sold all 4 within 24 hours of posting them and everyone had a DSI under the tree on Christmas.

Can you go through a program like Ebate or Mypoints and earn money back or other gift cards for your purchase? I would check that first even a few percent would save you more then the $5 gift card. There are other cash backs sites also those were just on the top of my head.

From waht I have seen that is not a sale at all. I have seen them listed at the price just about everywhere.

The price may drop more on the dsi as the release of the Nintendo 3ds gets closer. I think the US release date is rumored to be around March or so.

That price is pretty much the "going rate" for DSi these days. So while it's not a bad price, I think you can do better if you wait. Watch the Dell ads - we got ours off a Dell ad in the Sunday paper for $129 - but since then I've only seen them in the Dell ad for $149. If your employer offers any discounts with Dell be sure to apply that as well - we ended up only paying $108!

I'll keep waiting for a better price. Thanks also for the tip on Dell - I think my husband gets a discount through his company so I'll have him check.
