Is this a dumb idea?

I am going to WDW this week (leaving tomorrow!!) with a 3-year old and a 4-year old. They remove stickers and such from their clothing, and I want them to have some identification on them in case they get lost.

I have some extra lanyards from past conferences, and I attached one of the WDW luggage tags they sent with my travel vouchers to a lanyard for each kid. I wrote the child's name and my and dh's cell numbers on the tags in ballpoint pen (not easily seen from a distance).

My thinking is that they can wear them in the parks and have lanyards like "everyone else", but if they get separated from us (heaven forbid), they'll have contact info on them for the CMs to call us.

DH is concerned about them having something around their necks, and other people not realising they have the ID there. I would attach them (or something smaller) to something else with a little carbiner, but DD will be wearing little cotton dresses, so I don't realy have a good place to put them.

Is this a BAD idea? Should I just hope they don't peel masking tape off of their clothes? It's too late to get the little sew-in Id tags, so I have very few options.

Thanks in advance!

My son would take the lanyard off, but if your kids will keep them on, I don't see a big problem.

What we did was put an index card with the info in his back pocket (I have been told that CMs won't touch anything not visible, but who knows). And then I just put his name and 1 cell number on a tiny piece of index card that I have hole-punched and 'laminated' with tape and then tied to his shoe laces with a bit of bright ribbon. (My homemade version of the shoes IDs).

Have a great trip!

The index cards are a great idea!

My kids will leave the lanyards on, but maybe I'll make up the little shoe tags, too....I'll have to see if dd3 will leave them alone.

THanks!!

We put stickers on the back of their clothing - they don't even know they there so don't attemp to peel them off. :thumbsup2

My bro-in-law wrote his cell number on his kids arms in permanent black marker.

Kind of a clever idea. :)

My sil bought the small pet tags from the machines at wallmart. They are actually very cute a blue star for my nephew and pink heart for my neice. She attached them to the shoelace and they love the shoe charms. Its apparent to a CM that they have ID on the shoe so they would know to read them.

You can choose what to engrave on them. She only put the childs first name and her (the mom's) first name and cellphone number on them. She likes them so much they go one the shoe for daytrips as well as vacations.

I have also read about using the neon bracelets that are popular now. My dd's are older now but we used to put my dh's business card in a pocket becuase it had his name and cellphone on it.

I make and laminate little credit card sized nametags with names, where we're staying, mom and dad's name and cell phone numbers - I put a Mickey or Minnie sticker in the corner and laminate them. Then I pop a safety pin through it and attach it to their shirts. I started this when they were 2 and 3 - the 2 year old had MAJOR issues with it the first couple times (for a short while) - but I just told her that this is something that you need to have on or you can't go into 'Mickey's World'. I get lots of comments about how cute they are.

I didn't like the laynard idea because of 'around the neck' either - I mean - I just think about some of the rides and what if they get it caught OR take it off while playing with it and it ends up falling off the ride or whatever - too much to worry about for me.

Oh - and if you try this - make sure you round the edges off - they get very sharp when laminated.

I've heard of people using those little beads with number and letters to make bracelets to use as identification with names and cell number.

We put a piece of masking tape on their back with our cell phone # on it. They never knew it was there. Every other thing we tried was removed by them :confused3

We did a tag too, when our DD had just turned 4 for her first trip.
We got a gold heart pet tag for her from one of those machines, and engraved her name, and our cell numbers on it. We bought a cheap but strong necklace for it, and she wore it under her clothes. We told her before we left that if she could not find us, or any of my hubby's family, to go to a worker (and showed her them when we go there) and show it to them. She understood just fine, and we'd randomly ask her what she should do if she got lost to keep it fresh in her mind. :goodvibes

Thank you everyone for the wonderful ideas!!

We ended up running to petco (no walmart near me) and geting DD3 a pet tag "necklace". For DS4 I made the laminated card to pin to his back.

Thanks so much! We leave in 2 hours!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
