Is there usually availability for Thanksgiving and Christmas at this time of year?

Today I got an email from Disney that at first glance looked like a pin code. When I actually took the time to read it, I realized that they were soliciting bookings for the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Am I right in thinking that they are really hurting if they are sending this out so close to the holidays? Here is the email:

I don't recall hearing about an email targeting those dates in prior years. It is not unusual to get emails for other holiday dates.

The holidays are, of course, one of WDWs most profitable seasons so pushing it at this late date likely indicate lower than normal bookings. Was there a discount offered? That would be an even bigger inidcator.
