Okay I am 49 and suddenly my face is breaking out in one particular spot. The blemishes are red and feel like they are under the skin and then go away after about a week but then new ones show up. They look like they will come to a head but then they seem to clear to some point leaving red spots..the kind that take months to go away. HELP!! Looks like acne to me and it has been going on for about a month. I want to go to the dermatologist but I just wonder if it is common when hormones are all over the place at mid life? Anyone else have this happen?

I have known several ladies who developed mid life acne who never had so much as a pimple in their teen years. Hormonal changes can wreck havoc on a persons facial skin while the rest of the body skin is very dry.

I would definitely seek a dermatologist.

Sounds like rosacea to me and I know, unfortunately.

Yep, sounds like rosacea to me also. When I first broke out with it, I went to the dermatologist and was given antibiotics and Metrolotion to apply to my face. It has been a lot better since then. I also use the Aveeno Ultra-Calming Moisturizer and it works miracles for my face! Good luck!

I seem to have more acne now than when I was a teenager. I have read that acne does occur during perimenopause and menopause. But it is always good to have it checked out by a dermatologist.
