...in November?

DH's next conference is Phoenix and the conference people (whom I do a little web work for occasionally) *really* would like me to come to *one* conference, even if it's just for a day. ;) But I don't want to join him at a conference just to go say hi to people -- if I'm going to fly anywhere, I want to *do* stuff while I'm there.

Since my only experience with Phoenix has been the airport, is there anything to do in Phoenix or the Phoenix area in November?

I was hoping we could run up to the Grand Canyon, but that looks like it's way too far for a quick hop. :(

When Vince and I went there a few years back, we did do a day drive from Phoenix to Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, and back, in one day. A long drive, but we saw a lot in a sort time. Not a lot of time though spent in any one of those places. We did another day to Tucson and the Pima Air and Space Museum.

We saw a zoo thing with big cats, I forget the name of it.
There is a old western thing there too with the very best steak I have ever had. Rattlesnake too, but I didn't eat enough of it to tell you if it was good or bad. lol

Oh, yeah, we went there too.
I meant the museum. lol

JTB -- LOL! I wish. :D Hmm, my DL AP *would* still be good..... ;)

So far looks like most suggestions are in Tuscon instead of Phoenix. Remember, this is also going to be early November, so a lot of the outdoor things will be iffy.

As Dan mentioned earlier, Sedona is "beautifull", we did the Pink Jeep Tour

when we were there last year. Here is a link for you below.;)

I'd say golf -- but I don't think that would interest you or DH. :teeth:

Phoenix has lots of things to do. There is a big public Zoo that is really nice. There is a hands on Science Museum downtown. The kids thought it was great, but it was the adults we had to drag out of there! lol There is a private type Zoo, Wildlife Safari (I think!) on the north side of Phoenix. They have a very nice outlet mall, and lots of shopping. Mesa has an antique type area that is neat for shopping.

November is actually a nice time to go. In the summer months it is too hot to visit the Zoo and all the other outdoor things. But the weather in November is usally pretty nice! I have a AAA book somewhere if you need more info let me know and I will look it up for you. :D

Well, DH has decided he wants to spend at least part of the time in Flagstaff. He'd also like to go up to the Grand Canyon if possible.

So does this sound doable:

Fly into Phoenix and immediately turn around and drive up to Flagstaff for the night.

Next day, hit things near Flagstaff including the Lowell Observatory and Sunset Crater National Monument, maybe run down to Sedona. That night in Flagstaff.

Next morning, up to Grand Canyon, spend afternoon, then drive back to at least Flagstaff, possibly all the way back to Phoenix.

Does that sound reasonable?

I lived in AZ for many years, from the Grand Canyon down to Tucson. Depending on when you arrive, it's about a 4 drive from Phoenix to Flagstaff. I would do that, then drive the next morning to the Grand Canyon (it's only about an hour's drive). I don't know how much time you would want to spend there..some can stay for days and some for a few hours. I would go back to Flagstaff that night, do the things around there next and go to Sedona on your way back to Phoenix. It's a nice drive through Oak Creek Canyon. The weather in Phoenix will be great but Flagstaff could be on the cold side (we had snow on Thanksgiving one year so you never know). If you love the Sandia Mountains, you will be amazed at the beauty of the Canyon and red rocks in Sedona.
