I was curious if anyone has stayed at both & have a favorite? We currently have reservations for DLH 1 bedroom family suite. The Westin was always on my list and and I am wondering if I should change?

This will be this the kids 1st trip to DL and we are staying for 5 nights -- we are debating also doing 2 days at Laguna before of after but that is still in the planning phase.

When it comes to price we all know that are going to pay a lot extra to be at the park, and I knew that when I was looking.

Disneyland Hotel $6300
Westin $4083

I haven't stayed at the Westin, but I've heard it's very nice. I know you're already aware of the reasons for staying on site, so I'll just say that the family suites we've had at DLH have been awesome. We've had a kitchenette included plus a half bath. DLH has different configurations so you don't always get the same layout. DLgal will hopefully chime in with better descriptions as she's the resident expert.

I know it's a lot of money, but man, it's sooooo nice to go back to your hotel right out of the parks. The suites have lovely views (all of mine but one had pool views) and in the Frontier tower, you can get balconies. That may or may not be of interest depending on the ages of your kids. Balconies always make me nervous with little ones. Once when my girls were little, we were staying at GCH. I was out on the balcony reading the paper and I looked up to see my toddler had opened the slider, come out on the balcony, had climbed onto a chair and was starting to get up on the table so she could see the monorail go by down below. I was right there, but distracted by the newspaper. I've never forgiven myself (or my dh for also not paying attention). We always used the upper locks on the slider after that and didn't use the balcony until the kids were older. I mean, who wouldn't want to try and see the monorail? I've never heard anyone else say that it made them nervous and I hope no one else has had a similar experience.

Anyway, the themed suites with views of the parks/pool, proximity to DTD, monorail, and parks, plus all of the fun things at DLH would definitely sway me in that direction. But...it's a lot more money. Maybe you could cut the Disney hotel portion down by a day and head for Laguna or whatever the plan is after your last park day?

Oh, also...I don't think you'd have to worry about the balconies at DLH. No tables and chairs would fit!

I’m not gonna lie reading that about the balcony just made my heart drop even though I knew it was going to end OK! Ours are five and 14, but I would love to say that I would think the 5 yr old
Wouldn’t get on a chair and stand up — but she would. I was hoping to get the frontier tower and even put a little request and I was hoping to put a request in the morning of super early like at seven if possible I don’t know if that will help! But yes I would be using the upper locks and almost forbid them going out there alone.

It’s strange, because yes, it’s a lot of money and it’s really not even about the money per say. I keep reading over and over again people saying the Westin is better and it’s a waste to stay on properly.

But then I think about our daughter who doesn’t know we’re going because we’re surprising her walking into the Disneyland hotel and it’s seriously makes me melt.

Well, as you know, money is very subjective. No, it's not worth it to some/many. But it's absolutely worth it to others, and I'm most definitely in the latter category. I count in the intangibles and that makes it very much worth the extra, but everyone has different ideas about worth. Not having to leave the resort is the obvious reason for most, but it's much more. At DLH you're looking out on a tropical paradise, complete with music, palms, water features and tiki torches. It's not just a hotel room, it's a little piece of Disney encapsulated. The sights and sounds don't include traffic and hawkers. You can imagine that you're somewhere far removed from the outside world and it's hard to describe how good that feels to me.

And BTW, my daughter was 4 when she did her climbing.

So I know this sounds terrible, but our daughter has been a climber forever and has to this dare really no fear. To the point where I was terrified that she would fall out of that one of the top windows to the point that I made my husband put extra locks on them which probably we’re not safe for a fire😬 which I shouldn’t of done. I was driving into the driveway one day, and she was standing in the window in her room on the ledge looking down when she was like 2. It became almost like an unnatural fear of mine.

Did you request the frontier tower? That’s the one I really want and I was hoping that if we get in super early I know you can’t check in till later but I was hoping if I do it like a week before and then even like at seven 7-8 in the morning, the day of I could land one with a balcony.

I have stayed in several 1 bedroom suites at the DLH and a 1 bedroom suite at the Westin. With the age of your youngest and this being your first trip, I’d stay at DLH. The theming in the rooms and at the pool are so magical, especially for a 5 year old. The Westin is very nice, but it’s not Disney. We are very loyal Marriott members but I will always choose DLH when the budget allows it.

Thank you 💕 We also love Marriott members & also have a Platinum Amex that would give us $200 credit & a bunch of others perks.

The big thing is the magic for the 5 yr old and even the 14 yr old. She doesn’t know we are going and the idea of her realizing where we are at walking into the hotel — makes me actually smile just thinking about it.

I've stayed at both hotels in the past 8 months. Not in a suite mind you but I will share my thoughts.

I thought the Westin is a gorgeous hotel with exceptionally friendly staff. The rooms are very nice, clean and spacious. I would rank Westin over Disney in the room quality category. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to Disney or about an $8-12 Uber fare one way. The pool is nice, nothing special and a tad small. We loved the coffee shop, but didn't enjoy the room service, at all.

While the Disneyland Hotel rooms are not as *new* as the Westin, we still found that they were very clean and comfortable. We didn't have daily housekeeping, so our trash/recyclables piled up but this might have changed since our stay in October. It was excellent to stay in the Disney bubble, we really appreciated the early entry and the use of the Monorail. Wished there were more food options, but with Downtown Disney close by it wasn't a deal breaker. I also just love the vibe/atmosphere at DLH. Loved the pool.

Husband and I wish we got a bit better value for our money at the Disneyland Hotel. We feel the Westin is better value. However, we both agree that we enjoy the perks of staying on property and being in the Disney bubble more than staying at the Westin. We also prefer a shorter walk to the parks. We probably wont stay at the Westin again. That is simply because we will stay on property or for the fun of trying a new hotel.

I love the suites at the DLH. The rooms have been redone since I took these.

If you make it 2 bedroom, with a king in the second room, this is an idea how it looks.

Is this the 2 bedroom connection suite? I love those so much!

We have a nearly 16 year old (and a nearly 2 year old) and our 16 year old still LOVES DLH, especially the pool. It’s all still magic for her. We love the Marriott perks but, like I said, we choose DLH whenever possible.

Do you do a suite when you travel or just do regular rooms? Our kids are 14(son) & 5(daughter) and that is one of the reasons we are going for a suite for the separate sleeping areas. Husband and I are are wanting some privacy but the main thing is mostly ASSuming that our 14 yr old needs some -- even if he said was OK either way. I might just be over thinking it also.

We nearly always do a suite, adjoining rooms, or rent a house when we travel. Our teenager likes her own space and we all like to be able to spread out without tripping over each other. It also makes nap time and bed time easier, especially since our toddler only makes it until about 7/8pm in the parks. One of us can stay out late with our teen and they don’t have to worry about waking anyone else up when we get in. For our last DLR trip, all the suites were sold out but we really wanted to stay onsite, so we ended up in a concierge room at GCH. I thought the lounge would be a nice extra space to hang out, but I re-discovered that we all don’t like sleeping in the same room. It was only a 3 night trip but we were ready to be home in our own beds by the end of it.

I am glad I asked every concern I have you listed! We have the DLH family suite booked right now but I wish I could of done 2 bedroom conjoining but couldnt find them. I really like the GCH 1 bedroom suite but it is about double the price so not sure I can justify it for the 5 nights
