Is there any way I can use these points?

We are in the process of buying a resale which has 40 points left which expire March 31. We won't close for another 4 weeks or so. The points were not banked, so I'm afraid that there will be no way to use them. Any ideas? Could we possibly rent them? Thanks!

I seem to recall that there is a period near the end of your use year where you can't reserve. Does anyone know about this?

Diane, that only refers to concierge collection of world of disney, and possibly the cruise line....what that policy is, is this:

You can not make a reservation for one of the program I have listed during the last 60 days of your use year. You can make reservation for use during that period, but the must be made prior to the last 60 days of your use year.

This makes a lot of sense, Disney needs enough time to get some value out of your points.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx, pretty sick, huh?

I knew I had read something, but couldn't remember what it was in referance to. I guess then, I would make a reservation with those points as soon as you are able with any location you can get on that short of notice. Doesn't hurt to try!

carlotta- You could ask the seller to use their one-time-banking priviledge and bank those points before you purchase. If you don't close for another month- it could be pretty tight for you to do anything with the points before they expire- as it could be 5 weeks before you are even in the DVC computer. Good Luck!

Doc: if the seller would use the option to bank the points, would that stay with the contract and preclude Carlotta from having that option in the future, or would she get the option later if she chose since she would be a new member?

Good question!! I thought I would ask the seller to bank, but since I don't have the member guide book, I don't know if this would take away my option to "one-time-bank".

Thanks Doc and DVC-John!

Carlotta, the "one time bank" isn't written anywhere. It seems to be a case-by-case DVC thing where they do it for good cause. I'm not sure what effect it would have on a future emergency banking you might have.
