Is there any type of portable dvd player that is adaptable for airplanes?

My mom just got us a portable dvd player with 2 screens for our truck. I don't even know if it's compatible to run on batteries, or only in the truck plugged in. My question is, is there a dvd product out there that can be used in vehicles and plugged into something on the airplanes? We don't have a laptop, so that is not an option. Thanks

Portable dvd players can usually run on battery power or the cigarrette lighter adapter thingy.

We took ours and used it in the car on the way to the airport using the car adapter, on the airplane using the battery (ours only has a life of about 2 hours). Then we brought the av jacks and used it in the hotel room at night.

It was well worth it for us to bring and we will likely buy one before our next trip (the one we used was my brother's).

I know I have heard that some of the ones with 2 screens do not work on a battery though? They are more for use in a vehicle only. Ours is just a little 7 x 10 inch player with the screen attached.

Most domestic aircraft do not have power plugs at seats, and when they do, the plug is not the same type as you have in an automobile. Battery power is your best bet; perhaps there is a battery adapter you can purchase if yours does not normally run on batteries? I'd advise checking the mfr. website.

My experience is a little different from NotUrsula in that the plugs I've seen and used on American Airlines (in particular) are "cigarette lighter style power ports." We have successfully run our laptops with both the Targus auto/air laptop adapter (plugs into cigarette lighter) and a power inverter (converts cigarette lighter to regular AC plug click here for Amazon link) with a regular power cord plugged in.

To find out whether your plane will have these ports, one good resource is http://www.seatguru.com/index.php. Choose your airline and aircraft type and it will present a map with the power port locations throughout both first class and cattle class cabins. (Your reservation information should include the planned aircraft type.)

I saw that OP didn't have the laptop option, but the inverter should do the trick for most AC powered electronics and the DC plug for your car should work IF you have access to a power outlet on the plane. We have nicely and successfully asked folks several times in the seat ahead of us if they would mind plugging in for us so we could run it beneath the seat (sometimes we just can't get the good seats!). Since it doesn't protrude or make life difficult in any way for them, no one has turned us down yet. The best deal we have found for inverters was at Sam's Club last year--something like 2/$30, which I thought was reasonable.

Of course, YMMV.

I have a portable DVD that I carry with me for my ds. However, on the first couple of flights, he couldn't hear the audio. I bought him ear phones... still couldn't hear the audio. I then went to Radio shack and doubled up on "tools." I bought an audio booster (just a cable that plugs in with the headphone) and a sound reducing, folding headphone (old-school looking with BIG cushiony ear pieces). Now, he can hear perfecting and both Mommy and ds are happy :-)

Good luck.

We bought one of those inverters and used it on a flight to Hawaii, but the only time we've ever had the power ports near our seat was in 1st class on American going to Hawaii. Even 1st class on Delta going home didn't have the power ports. That was in November and since then we've flown 7 times and haven't seen a power port since then. If you're connecting, you can always charge the battery at the airport while you wait for your 2nd flight.

We actually bought a big rechargable battery that lasts almost forever, at least that is what it seems, and just put an adapter on the wire and plugged it into the AC adapter port. We just had to make sure that the voltage was correct. We haven't had any problems with this and it generally lasts for several plane trips.

We bought a dual screen dvd player last year and it came with a battery but it will only run the main Dvd player part. There is not enough power for it to run the Player and the 2cnd screen.

I travel far too much and in my experience most airline seats - even First or Business Class - do not have power available. I bought two of the overpriced, heavy universal converters for airplanes and rarely use them.

The one time I had power at the seat - Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Newark - the power plug had North American adapters!

On four flights last week (two Business class; two coach) there was no power to be found.

Get extra batteries...

We have an "INITIAL" brand Dvd player that sounds pretty much like STACI's
It has a battery pack, a/c adaptor, and car cord. It has a 7"screen all one unit. It only has one headphone jack, but we bought a "Y" splitter at Walmart for 2 bucks or so and with it you can plug in 2 sets of headphones. Our only problme now is we have 3 kids one who is quite a bit older and doesn't always want to watch what the other 2 are watching, so we may pick up a second one for her...They are really coming down in price. We bought ours for @$225 2 yrs ago, now its about $150 ish last I looked. WE use ours alot, we take a lot of "road trips'" and even have used it camping.
