Is there an age limit to parent swap

Hi,

I just thought of something...is there an age limit to parent swap? My kids are 11 and 6, there are some rides the 6 year old is just too small to ride, but there are others that he can but I'm worried the 11 yr old might wimp out. Can we swap with both of them? I don't mean each ride twice, but suppose the 6yr old wants/can ride (he's 46" tall.) But the 11 yr old wimps out would they let us use the kid swap feature? (believe it or not the 6yr old is less of a scaredy cat then the older one is.)

If no, have any of you let an 11 year old take the chicken exit and wait for you by himself?

Thanks

Jayson

I don't know the official answer to your question, but I would find it very
un-Disney like for them to impose an age limit on something they call a
"CHILD swap". The name itself implies anyone who is not considered an adult - so anyone under the age of 18 should qualify - right? :confused3

I found this comment humorous, but not in an offending way because I do agree with you. Just think CHILD ticket pricing and CHILD dining pricing. :teeth: Under 18 DEFINITELY does not cover the rules of qualification. Anyway, I don't see where there should be a problem with a parent waiting with their child (who would not legally be allowed to stay home alone....in many cities 11 is too young) while the other parent rides with the other child, then switch off. It's still child swapping in my book as long as one child NEVER rides.

When our son was 4 he was tall enough for Space Mountain, but not brave enough. They let us do the child swap, even after pointing out to us that he was tall enough to ride. I just explained that he didn't want to. They were fine with it, I don't think you will have any problems doing that. I have a 10 yr old who swears he won't do Tower of Terror again, so we may try the same thing!

Officially, Child Swap is based on height only - but for other situations it's at the discretion of the CMs at the attraction.

You could always use Fastpass!

Now I'm confused on Fastpass...If we are all holding a fastpass for the ride, can we go on two concecutive rides, or would there be other fastpass holders think we are cutting lines.

I was under the immpressing whe fastpass there is still a line only shorter. Is that right, or can you really just walk right up and on?

If we use Fastpass, can the child who likes to ride go with both parents? IE use his FP, then use his brothers?

Thanks for everyone's answers...I love this board

Jayson.

When I was 9, I was terrified of TOT. They let my parents do the child swap thing, but I was convinced to go on it anyway. I think that if your child is really scared, they will let you do it. They don't want a scene that will scares others.

Sometimes you can walk right on the ride and others there is a wait. I think that later in the day the FP line tends to get longer. They do not really enforce the return window so you are able to use the FP from the time your return window starts til the end of the day. A lot of people get the FP earlier in the day and do not use it until after there return window. For example... on our last trip, the FP line for BTMRR was usually only about halfway up the ramp. Later that evening the FP line was all the way up the ramp and halfway down the covered section of the queue... about 4 times longer than earlier in the day.

Anybody can use the Fastpass. If you get 4 fastpasses and one child does not want to ride then your other child can ride with the 2nd adult using the extra FP.

In answer to part of the question, when my dd was 9, she would not ride RNR, but her brother would, and she did take the chicken exit and wait for us in the gift shop. By the second time she loved doing that, she thought she was really cool. She waited by the CM's who stand by the pics, they are right at the end of the chicken exit.

I'm glad to hear they sometimes let you do child swap for older children. I have a 9 year old who is scared to go on a lot of the rides and a 6 year old who wants to go on everything.

Now if only they would let us do parent swap, when both children want to go on and sit by mommy rather by themselves, but the other parent is too scared to ride. That way I could take each child individually and ride twice! I guess we'll get around that by getting 4 FPs. I should be able to get on twice during the window, while each child uses their own FP.

Or, to confuse the issue even further, could you get a FP, then, when your window to ride comes, get a child swap if one child can't or won't ride?

We were at MK last October, my DD was 8 and too scared to do Space Mountain. We used the child swap with absolutely no problem. If fact, we used it several times until finally on our last day, she decided to try it and loved it. We also used Child Swap on TOT without a problem. Were going back this October and plan to used child swap again.

Good luck!

I think it is up to the CM's if the child is of the correct height to ride but I don't understand your concerns if it is the 11 yr old that doesn't want to ride they are certainly old enough to wait at the exit for you and the 6 yr old.

It very much depends on the CM then because at every ride my DD age 6 was tall enough for but didn't want to ride (ToT, Splash, Thunder), they measured her and told us because she was tall enough to ride, she had to go through the line with us and swap at the ride itself. No special parent swap Fastpass for us.

So instead we just got 4 Fastpasses and my older DD got to ride the ride twice; once with me and then once with DH. That's what we do when our younger DD doesn't want to ride that she's tall enough for.

Didn't you know? At Disney, they're "adults" at 10.
You'll learn this when you pay full price at a buffet even though they eat just tidbits.

:lmao:

Note that was a slight dig at Disney, not you.
