Is there a website to show PROJECTED dates of hurricanes?

I'm curious to know if any are projected while we're there 9/28-10/5. I know things change and nothing would be 100% accurate but at least I'd have a vague idea :)

That would mean that weather could be predicted...

There is absolutely no way of knowing. Storm systems form off the coast of Africa, they start as concentrated thundershowers, they build some convection to develop tropical depression to a tropical storm to a hurricane (1,2,3,4,or 5). Some never develop and are sheared. It all depends on wind, water temp and jet streams. Storms systems develop all the time off the African coast there are usually several at a time..once it developes into a TD it travels about 3-4 longitude degrees per day. Some storms are also formed around the caribbean too. Some gain strength, some do not, some disappear, some go off to the mid atlantic not hitting anything. I would say that a TD takes time to develop and travel (maybe 10 days) but many TD jsut dissipate.

Hurricanes are an "act of God" and cannot be predicted only tracked once formed.

There is no way of getting a "vague" idea. The only thing we know is hurricane season is June 1 to Nov 30. Anyone that tells you otherwise is just blowing smoke. We are going in September...but hey that's what trip insurance is for.

there is no way to forecast tropical systems that far out. If there's anything brewing, it will likely be on your local TV station, or The Weather Channel.

Nobody can predict hurricanes before they start (as tropical storms). Even when a tropical storm forms, they cannot predict whether or not it will become a hurricane. And once a hurricane forms, no-one can really predict where it will land.

They can give an idea based on it's most LIKELY path, but as we know from last year, that may or may not be accurate. Who on earth would ever have thought Orlando would be in the direct path of two hurricanes within a very short time? It just doesn't fit the pattern. But there you have it.

If you are worried about a hurricane during your stay, bear in mind it is unlikely in the extreme your trip will be effected. Yes, it could happen. But no, it is not likely.

We're going Sept 27 - Oct 4......keeping my fingers crossed for a hurricane free trip :umbrella:

cattrix, we're going to be there the exact same time! :cool1: Where are you staying?

Hurricanes will happen if I make any sort of plans involving Florida during hurricane season. Last year, Francis prevented my Floridian aunt from coming to my wedding, Ivan made me postpose my honeymoon, and Jeanne hit during the rescheduled honeymoon. Everyone should be fine this year as I will not be heading down that way!

We are staying at POR, just called today and put on our ressies that we wanted to stay in Magnolia Terrace :teeth: Can't wait!!!!

Where are you guys staying???

We took the Disney Cruise (4 night cruise) that ended on Thanksgiving Day in 2001. We sweated out a hurricane or two right before we left. The 4 night cruise that left either the Sunday before us or two Sundays before us was rerouted to Charleston, SC, instead of the Bahamas because of a hurricane.

It's funny the way you say it. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: , but I hope you finally got your honeymoon re-rescheduled and got to enjoy it. :sunny:

You can go to the NOAA site and they will give you the most up to date info. They can also send you email alerts of storms. Of course they can't predict exactly what will happen, it can give an educated guess. For instance I was able to see that TD #13 is not a threat at this point, which I was worried about after hearing about it on the news last night.

Sorry you had such bad luck with all those hurricans last fall.
Hope you had a wonderful wedding and honeymoon in spite of it all.
And thanks for not coming to Fl. this fall. :::breaths a sigh of relief:::Now I won't need to worry when we are down there in October :sunny:

We will be there 9/17-9/24. I know that we are going during hurricane season. I don't want to have to worry about it. I know myself. I have been tracking the UG numbers for crowds during our stay rather like someone tracking the stock market. If I had info concerning projected hurricanes this far out I would be watching that constantly, driving myself crazy with the predictions. I don't know why because the trip is booked and paid for. I have insurance. I WILL be arriving on the 17. It will be a vacation. I have done all I can to plan. It is now time to relax and go with it.

I'll be in WDW also 9/28-10/4. Let all hope for nice weather :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

There is an area of low pressure 1500 miles east of the lesser antilles that they are watching at this time. It is moving west northwest..at this time is shows no further development but is moving over the open atlantic and could turn into a tropical depression in 24-36 hours.

'Tis the season! They are called Cape Verde type storms and happen during the months of August and September.

Experts know what months they occur but not exact days...very unpredictable.

Thanks so much for staying home! :rotfl: :rotfl:
